Sponsorship Opportunities

to benefit Craig Hospital’s

Programs of Excellence and Research

An inspirational evening that helps Craig Hospital patients and their families Redefine Possible

Friday, February 27 at 5:30 p.m.

Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center

650 15th St., Denver, CO 80202

Dear PUSH Supporter,

Thank you for your interest in the 2015 PUSH, Craig Hospital’s annual gala event. The evening raises

money to support Craig Hospital’s Programs of Excellence, including therapeutic recreation, music

therapy, return-to-work programs, the PEAK adaptive wellness center, the award-winning Nurse

Advice Line and more. These innovative programs are vital to our patients’ success, yet not

reimbursed by insurance companies.

Proceeds of the PUSH paddle auction support the Patient Assistance fund, which helps patients with

minimal income or inadequate insurance to travel with family members to and from Craig, purchase

equipment like wheelchairs and shower chairs, remodel homes for accessibility, train caregivers, pay

mortgages and college tuition, and meet other urgent needs.

PUSH funds also support Craig’s cutting-edge spinal cord and traumatic brain injury research.

Today, thousands of patients are leading better lives because of the medical care, rehabilitation services and

research of Craig Hospital. Thank you for your support of the programs that change the lives of our patients and

their families.

About Craig Hospital Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorado is one of the

most established rehabilitation hospitals in the world. Our

patient outcomes are some of the best in the field of reha-

bilitative medicine. Craig Hospital is a private, non-profit,

free-standing hospital licensed by the Colorado Depart-

ment of Public Health and Environment, and is accredited by

the Joint Commission.

CRAIG HOSPITAL PATIENTS

Over the past five decades Craig Hospital has helped more

than 30,000 patients with spinal cord injury and traumatic

brain injury. Each year, Craig Hospital treats an average of

500 inpatients, and 1,400 outpatients. One of the most im-

portant benefits of Craig Hospital is the opportunity for

patients with similar ages, backgrounds, and injuries to

teach, encourage, and support one another. At any given

time, there are approximately 50-55 inpatients with spinal

cord injury, 25-30 with traumatic brain injury.

REHABILITATION AT CRAIG HOSPITAL

Craig provides a highly individualized and personal ap-

proach to treatment, focusing on the patient's physical,

cognitive, and psychological well-being. Craig sets high

expectations for patient participation in therapy and

helps patients set their own high expectations.

Patients typically stay in the inpatient program two to

four months. Length of stay is individualized based on

diagnosis, severity of injury, rate of progress, and possi-

ble complications.

Each patient and family has a consistent interdisciplinary

treatment team of professionals that includes: the phy-

sician, nurses, physical therapist, occupational therapist,

patient and family service counselor, therapeutic recre-

ation specialist, psychologist, pharmacist, chap-

lain, dietitian, pharmacist, and when necessary, speech

and language pathologist, neuropsychologist, respirato-

ry therapist, and others. The team meets regularly with

the patient and family to set goals, develop treatment

plans, review progress, and coordinate services needed

at home following discharge.

Craig Hospital therapists regularly take patients into the

community and the mountains for valuable, real-life

learning experiences, such as navigating streets, rough

terrain, and public buildings, and interacting with the

public, etc.

PATIENT OUTCOMES

On average, Craig graduates are more dependent when

they are admitted, functionally make greater gains dur-

ing their initial treatment, are discharged home at high-

er rates, are more functionally independent and require

less attendant care and have fewer re-hospitalizations

than other rehab facilities.

Return to work and school averages exceed the averag-

es of other rehabilitation programs across the country.

A higher rate of return to work and school results in

greater productivity, greater contribution to the econo-

my, decreased burden on taxpayers and welfare pro-

grams and greater patient satisfaction with life.

RESOURCES

The PEAK Center is an adaptive health and wellness

center dedicated to empowering individuals with neu-

rologic disabilities such as spinal cord injury, brain inju-

ry, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, stroke and many

more conditions to maximize their quality of life

through knowledge and activity. PEAK offers highly

trained staff, a motivated environment and incorporates

both research based practices and cutting edge technol-

ogy in client’s customized plans.

Patients with inadequate income or insufficient insur-

ance benefits can receive support from the Craig Hos-

pital Foundation’s Patient Assistance Funds. These

funds, provided by generous donors, purchase adaptive

equipment, remodel homes for accessibility, train care-

givers, pay mortgages and college tuition, and meet oth-

er urgent patient needs.

A donor-funded service, the Nurse Advice Line pro-

vides a dedicated nurse to answer non-emergent health

questions and provide educational resources.

RESEARCH

Craig Hospital’s 21 full-time researchers conduct dozens of

studies to improve clinical programs at Craig and contribute

to standards of care in the rehabilitation field. Craig Hospi-

tal is a federally-designated NIDRR Model Systems Center

for SCI since 1974 and TBI since 1998; the NIDRR TBI Na-

tional Statistical Data Center 2006-present; and part of the

Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation NeuroRecovery

Network (NRN) research program.

AWARDS & ACCOLADES

Craig has been ranked as a top ten rehabilitation center

by U.S. News and World Report for 25 consecutive years,

since the rankings began.

Craig received the prestigious Magnet Recognition® for

quality in nursing, in 2005-2010 and 2011-2015 and the

Magnet Prize® Award in 2012.
