    Program outline

    We will be doing an act with two phases and an awareness programme via speech (in locallanguage either using a local person) then we will be performing a dance. We plan to conduct asurvey on knowledge, attitude and practice of people regarding women violence and burn

    violence using questionnares before the program and then after the program

    Phase one At the start we will brief the audience about the objective behind our initiative. We willcommunicate with the audience, if possible in the local language (using a translator or help). Wewill use questionnaires to ask about their knowledge and attitude regarding women violence,especially burn violence to know the actual awareness level.A girl is working in the fields and she gets attacked by four men, raped and thrown in the fields.Oppressed by social taboo sh e doesnt dare to talk about it .

    Phase two The same girl who is victim of rape has to face a marriage which is more of an arrangement forher family to save face by giving dowry. Her family which is poor find it difficult to marry herwithout giving considerable dowry. They face considerable social pressure to get the girlmarried. After much struggle the parents are able to manage some fund for the marriage.The girl enters with a briefcase in the stage and immediately she is surrounded by her husband,father in law and mother in law. It turns out to be the dowry money her in-laws have asked fromher parents, they take the money. The girl goes back to her work. Unhappy with the amount ofmoney the girl had brought, her in laws snatch away her jewelries, physically abuse her and pushher out of the house so she can get more money from her parents. The girl goes to her parents,they understand but th ey dont have any money, so the mother gives the minimal of jewelleryshe is wearing and paperwork of the house. Unhappy and reluctant the girl takes the jewelleryand goes back crying.The girl reaches her in laws house .They see that she doesnt have the moneys and she is refusingto give the papers for her parents house they demanded so they again beat her and then pourkerosene over her and light the matchstick to burn her. The girl struggles to her last minute, runsaround and finally dies. One of their neighbors sees that and calls the police, reaches their houseextinguish the flame, hold the victim. The police arrive and arrest the husband as well as the in

    laws...the parents of the girl arrive and cry in front of her bodyThen one of Us give an awareness speech (or via non-verbal acts? to be decided afterconsultation with our choreographers, probably local language using an interpreter) and then adance of 15 people in an empowering song, most likely Akon (Hold my hand), song can bechanged.Then we give a short demonstration on what to do in conditions which burns occur, first aid andmanagement of burn injuries, pamphlets will be distributed. The program again ends with

    interaction of the team with the locals. In these sessions we also ask locals to share their viewson problems and what could be the solution.

    Further, we take a feedback regarding whether they got the idea/message that our act wanted toconvey. We get the concrete evidence of the success of our awareness program via the same

    questionnaires with same or different individuals. It will be a documented survey for the future.
