Production System

Mass Production

Goods in large quantities at low cost per unit.

Mass-produced goods are standardized by means of

precision manufactured, interchangeable parts. characterized by mechanization to achieve high

volume, elaborate organization of materials flow

through various stages of manufacturing, careful

supervision of quality standards, and minutedivision of labour

Production Process

1. CAP DEPA RTMENT Raw materials used are HDPE & LLDPE which are

transported to the processing plant.

These are emptied into the hopper of the injection

moulding machine with a colorant.

This semi finished product is transported, after

quality testing has been done, to the Filling

department

Page 8: Production Plant

2. PREFORMS DEPA RTMENT

PET material is used to manufacture preforms which

are semi finished bottles.

Produced by using injection moulding machine.

Packed in cartons and transported to fillingdepartment.

Preforms are available in various sizes

3. BLOWING

DEPA RTMENT

Preforms which are obtained

from the preforms department

are blown to form bottles. 2 fully automatic blowing

machines directly connected to

the filler.

5 more semi automatic andautomatic blowing machines .

1. Water is processed by sterilization with chlorine or

related chemicals so as to kill a large portion of thebacteria and microorganisms in the water.

2. It is then filtered through layers of varying depth of

uniformed Quartz Sand Filtration System so that the

water will not contain any large quantity of suspendedsolids.

3. Water is then absorbed on the activated carbon which

absorbs most pollutants dissolved in water.

4. Then water is passed through a salt tank full of Na+

ions so as to soften it.

5. The water is then passed through the 1.45and 1filter,

which eliminates the micropollutants and microtoxic

substances.

Page 12: Production Plant

6. The treated water is then discharged into a UV

sterilizer system for sterilization

7. The final 0.2filter is then used as a final safety

filter since the water must be permanently free

from any matter that might escape from the

proceeding treatment.8. The treated water is stored in the pure sanitary

 grade water reservoir.

9. The mineral water is then pumped into the filling

machine. The high-speed machine fills, seals anddates the carton automatically.

5. FILLING DEPA RTMENT

Situated in a closed and a controlledenvironment.

Bottles are passed through UV light to kill

the bacteria and then cleaned by pure

water. They are then filled to the desired

quantity and automatically capped.

Bottles pass through a screen of white

light where workers manually check all

the bottles for any defects.

6. RECYCLING DEPARTMENT

Waste bottles are collected and send forrecycling.

They are cleaned, grinded to a coarse

powder which is again used inmanufacturing processes.

Reduces wastages

PLA NT LAYOUT

Bisleri plant at Andheri (E) has two

different plants

The cap and the bottle preforms aremanufactured in one plant.

In the other plant, preforms are blown

into bottles and the filling of the bottlesis done.

Water purification is also done here.

boxes from one plant to another .

The godown where the finished goods are stored is

located right next to the vehicle pool in order to reduce

the time wasted in transporting to the trucks.

PRINCIPLES OF LAYOUT

1. principle of minimum trav el

Men and materials should travel the shortest

distance between operations so as to waste labourand time and minimize the cost of materials

handling.

In the Bisleri plant, the machines are integrated in

such a way that the Raw materials, semi finished

product and finished product have very less

distance to travel.

Page 26: Production Plant

8/3/2019 Production Plant

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/production-plant 26/27

2. principle of sequence

Machinery and operations should be arranged in

a sequential order.

In the Bisleri plant, all the machines are arranged

in a sequence therefore saving time and cost on

material handling equipment.

CONCLUSION

Production management is very important in today·s

competitive world where cost cutting is a norm

rather than exception.

It provides a science for effective profitmaximization and optimum resources utilization.

Bisleri who has been in the past been facing tough

competition from the other brands has adopted

production management in a big way in order to

maintain its lead in the packaged drinking water

market.
