Norditec Antriebstechnik Germany wasfounded in 1994 when it started coating tim-ing belts. Over the years, with the help of itsdedicated team, Norditec has developed intoa leading supplier of special conveyor belts.

On a production area of 11,000 ft2 (3,000 m2)60 employes produce customer-specific con-veyor belts such as cam-belts, coated beltsand belts treated with mechanical CNC-tech-nology. Our already versatile product rangeis continuously expanding and as a resultthis brochure can only give you a globaloverview of our possibilities. Feel free toask! Coatings

Norditec offers an extensive range of coat-ings. Different coatings can be used toachieve the disired conveying characteristics.These include: high or low friction, soft,hard or elastic surfaces. The application of asoft synthetic foam to the belt surface, forexample, can help protect the product,while the application of a heat resistant feltcoating can protect the belt from heat whenhot products need to be transported.

The belt can be further treated either on thetransport side or the toothed side. Slots canbe cut into very thick coatings to improveflexibility. A „V-guide“ can be attached tothe toothed side to improve tracking. Kevlarcan be added to reduce wear, impegnatedmagnets can be added, butt or seamlessjoint, the possibilities are endless.

Special Coatings

Norditec offers an ever expanding line ofunique coatings in addition to the standardcoatings listed in this catalog.

Silicone Coating

Neoprene and PU timing belts can be coatedwith silicone. The silicone can be appliedseamless to the belt up to a thickness of 8mm. The advantages of the silicone coatingare its heat resistance up to 220° C, anti-ad-hesiveness (adhesive and dirt-repellent), itselasticity and excellent durability. The seam-less silicone has a hardness of approximately30° Shore, is transparent and FDA-compli-ant. Based on it’s high coefficient of frictionit is well suited to transport steel and paper.

APLN Coating

An APLN coating offers an alternative to thetraditional Linatex coating.

APLN has a hardness of 60° Shore. It can besupplied as a coating on endless belts or on

open-ended belts that are supplied per me-ter. APLN is weldable; it can be made endlessby means of a finger joint.

Teflon Coating PTFE

Teflon coating is used when a non-stick or avery low coefficient of friction is needed.Teflon has very good slip characteristics.

Seamless Polyurethane (PU) Spray Coating

This sprayed polyurethane coating is FDA ap-proved and is wear and abrasion-resistant.The spraying enables a high surface qualitywith or without grinding and enables a vari-able cover thickness of 0.2 to 2 mm.

The polyurethane coating is temperatureresistant up to 200° F (95° C) with a 82° shoreA hardness.

This permanently elastic coating can notonly be used for timing belts and conveyorbelts, but can also be sprayed on rigid itemslike rollers, e.g. for noise control and wearprotection. The polyurethane can be appliedto polyurethane and neoprene timing beltsas well as conveyor belts.

This coating is applied in blue, bright grey,black or yellow.

Kevlar Felt Coating

The Kevlar felt coating is applied when veryhot objects must be transported.

Applications include, aluminium and steelextrusion and glass product manufacture.The yellow Kevlar felt can withstand tem-peratures up to 900°F (500°C) (temporarily1000°F or 550°C). The white Kevlar felt up to500°F (250°C).

The coating can be applied to open ended orto endless belts. For a higher flexibility thinlateral cuts can be milled into the Kevlar felt.

For coatings in the food industry Norditecsupplies a variety of different coating mate-rials. Depending on the dimensions and ap-plication the coatings can be applied by;welding, gluing or spraying. The coatingsshown in this catalog are only a sample ofwhat is offered. For example; the nipple ma-terial can be supplied in several versions andbelts with sharp stainless steelpoints areavailable. Guide slots, holes and slits are standard fab-rication options. Special fabrication optionsare available if desired to optimize the effec-tiveness of the belt to match your specificneeds.

The additional processing of untreated andrefined belts can be accomplished using thefollowing methods:

• Cutting• Milling • Milling with CNC technology • Grinding• Punching • Perforation • Water-jet cutting

Groves can be added to thick coatings to im-prove flexibility or increase grip.

Objects can be easily positioned if placedinto grooves on the belt surface.

Smooth objects can be more easily trans-ported if the belts are grooved to increasethe coefficient of friction.

Perforations are used in vacuum as well asother applications.

A dual timing belt has cogs on both sides ofthe belt.

Both sides of the belt do not have to be syn-chronous. Norditec offers belts with dif-ferent pitches on each side to match your re-quirements.

A synchronous belt has the same pitch onboth sides of the belt. „Vario-Dual“ timingbelts have different pitches on the insideand outside of the belt.

A „Multi-Vario-Dual“ timing belt has variouspitches on one side of the belt as well as onthe inside and outside of the belt.

A vacuum timing belt is a belt with slotsand/or holes on the back of the belt.Vacuum belts are usually used in the packag-ing industry. They enable efficient trans-portation of light pieces goods such as paperas vertical removing of foils.

Norditec can apply all coatings to vacuumbelts. CNC milling machines ensures preciseplacement of slots and holes.

Many different configurations are listed inour “Vacuum Belts“ catalog, howewer aswith all Norditec belts most are custommade to your specifications.

Cam belts/cleat belts are used for conveyingpiece goods requiring fixation of the prod-uct during transportation.

Norditec’s continuously expanding „CleatCatalog“ has over 300 stock cleat cam de-signs. Just ask and a catalog will be sent.

The demands of a cleat are usually very spe-cific. Together we will find a solution to yourspecific needs.

Custom cams will be made to your drawingsif a stock design is not available.

We will supply whatever cam you require foryour most demanding applications.

Cams are made in our in-house injectionmolding machines and machining centers.

The cams are welded to polyurethane belts.Norditec also offers a removable-cam sys-tem. (See „Removable-Cam Systems.“)

The removable-cam system enables quickreplacement of cams at all times, especiallywhen the belt is first fitted. This reduces in-stallation and replacement costs.

The cam material and pitch between cams isflexible, keeping in mind the pitch of thecogs.

Two types of the removable-cam system areavailable:

Pocket timing belts are characterised by thelong, flat tabs that are attached to the belt.These belts are used, for example, in con-veyance of hygiene products such as baby di-apers.

Starting at a pitch of only 0.08 inches, (2mm) this is another example of our continu-ing research and development efforts thatmake Norditec a world leader in conveyorbelt technology.

The cams are molded in-house from glass-filled nylon. This enables Norditec to main-tain the stringent quality that is required tomanufacture cams that are thin and durable.

Wide Polyurethane belts

Wide timing belts, with widths up to 500mm, are currently only available in the mar-ket fitted with Kevlar cords. Norditec canproduce wide timing belts with kevlar orsteel cords.

Another example of Norditec’s continuing tolead in technological advancements, in con-veyor belt development, is magnetic belts.

The magnetic belt enables selected position-ing of metal parts based on the orientationand position of the magnets inserted intothe belt.

We apply the magnets to the surface of thebelt according to customer specifications,with strength, polarization and orientationto match your requirements.

Form-fit rapid-exchange system for various types of cams

Magnetic belts, like all of Norditec’s belts,can be supplied with a variety of surfaces tomatch your requirements for friction or anyother desired physical properties.

The attractive force of the belt is variable de-pending on the orientation and polarizationof the magnets. Either repulsion or attrac-tion of the magnets can be utilized to meetyour requirements.

In addition to the classic transportation ofmetal parts the belt can also be used for con-veying paper and foils, in which the trans-ported goods are clamped in between twotightening belts or between a low-frictionsurface and the magnetic belt.

Utilizing water-jet cutting Norditec can cutany shape in the belt that the customer de-sires.

The water-jet cutting allows precise holesand slots to match your specifications.

Norditec is proud to introduce patented ro-botic belt technology to the automatedmanufacturing world.

For example, robotic grippers can be placedon the timing belt to facilitate grasping ofobjects.

In many cases it is virtually impossible to in-stall a belt after the machine has been assem-bled. In these cases Norditec offers belts thatcan first be fitted to the machine and then beconnected together after installation.

Various methods to join and disconnect beltsafter installation are offered.

Belt assembly equipment

Portable cutting machines and weldingpresses

We supply belt “finger” cutting machinesand welding presses to the end user. This al-lows the customer to cut and weld installedbelts on-site.

A hand operated press cuts fingers into thebelt.

The finger joint increases the strength of theweld due to the increased surface area.

A portable welding press then welds the fin-ger joint together.

Norditec also offers unmodified timingbelts, toothed pulleys and Poly-net.

Water-jet Cutting

In addition to using water-jet cutting tocustomize belts, Norditec also offers gener-al water-jet cutting services.

The abrasive-jet process enables the han-dling of the most diverse materials. Evenmetals and plastic foams can be neatly cut.

Material up to 1.2 m X 1.2 m and up to 150mm thick, depending on the material, canbe cut with the water-jet cutting machine.

Polyurethane Spraying

We offer sprayed PU panels. The sprayedproduct has a hardness of 50° Shore. Thestandard panel measures 500 x 5,000 mmand can be supplied in thicknesses 2, 3, 4, 5,6, 8 and 10 mm. Further non-standard pan-el thicknesses can be supplied on request.Please contact us for a copy of our pricelist.

Antistatic measurment

In many industrial sectors electrostaticcharging of timing belts is undesirable. (Forexample, the conveying of sensitive elec-tronic components or in areas where thechance of explosion exists.) Antistatic char-acteristics of the belts are achieved by ap-plication of an electrical conductive coatingon the belt surface. For this purpose thebelts must be coated with a polyamide fab-ric. (NFT/NFB or PAZ/PAR) The resistance canbe further reduced by coating with a spe-cial anti-static rubber that can reach valuesbelow 10 (with exponent to 6th power)Ohms. According to DIN 22104 “AntistaticConveyor Belts” the surface resistance mustremain below 3 x 108 Ohm.

The electrical properties of belts will bemeasured upon request.

As the conductiveness of the coating can di-minish with age regular measurment is ad-visable. Measurment is carried out accord-ing to DIN EN 61 340-2-3 and DIN EN 340-4-1. A digital high-ohm meter is used for thispurpose.
