At The Basin Primary, we have Sarah Wallace - Business Manager and Cath Hanson – Office Assistant who both keep the office running smoothly, handle a myriad of enquiries and juggle a huge range of tasks daily. I am also fortunate to have Fiona Hough as the Personal Assistant to Dale and myself. She helps us to be organised and tidy! The following ESS staff work with particular students in the class- room as well as running important support programs for many other students each week, e.g. in our very successful Reading Lab and the Quicksmart Maths program. Our wonderful ESS STAFF are - Kylie Cribb, Karyn Mitchell, Di Parkinson, Nerissa Turner, Sarah Smyth, Wendy Hollonds and John Mallon. On behalf of all students, parents and staff that you support every day at TBPS, we sincerely thankyou for your wonderful support! SCIENCE WEEK Our school has been celebrating all things Science this week! There have been some wonderful activities held in science lessons through- out the week. The Science Fair has been a great success. It is open before and after school today and will finish on Friday afternoon. The school does receive a small commission on sales and we will use that money to purchase science equipment for the children to use in lessons. We would like to acknowledge Helen Clarke for once again organising the Science Fair and Greg Oswald for making this week exciting for our students. Thank you also to the following parents who have helped with sales and setting up of the Science Fair – Mar- quita Telford, Lynne Simpson, Leah Davison, Tara Clinton, Wayne Ashman, Julie Kiefel, Gary Horn, Amanda Baxter, Megan Foote, Ni- cole Klep, Simone Veldman, Kate Holden Michelle Willoughby, Jacqui Nicholls and Fiona Jackson. PREP ENROLMENTS FOR 2018 Just a reminder that if you have a younger sibling ready to start school next year now is the time to drop the enrolment information into the office as preparations are being confirmed for the term 4 transition sessions. We need to confirm 2018 Prep enrolments from our current families and we would appreciate your immediate support in this matter, as interest in our school is once again high! TRANSITION TO SECONDARY SCHOOL A reminder to parents of Grade 6 students that this Friday (18th August) is the last day for par-ents to lodge a non-placement appeal with secondary schools. Below is a table of our 2017 Grade 6 student’s placements in 2018.

NAPLAN The 2017 National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results for Year 3 and 5 students will be received by schools this week. Results for each student will be sent home later this week. The results of the NAPLAN tests provide diagnostic information for parents and teachers about a child’s performance in Literacy and Numeracy. This information is used to sup-port our teaching and learning programs and improve student achievement. Please remember that the NAPLAN tests are just a ‘snapshot’ of student performance and are conducted under test conditions within short timelines in May. Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher should they have any questions about the results. EXCURSION HELP This week many of our children have been on excursions and I sincerely thank the many parents who have given up time away from their daily routines and / or work commitments to attend and assist in the supervision of our children and ensure their safety! We are so fortunate to have wonderful support and a strong partnership with our families. Again THANKYOU! STUDENT PERSONAL PROPERTY Students are regularly reminded that any personal items brought to school remain the responsi-bility of the student. Expensive or emotionally valuable items should not be brought to school, as the risk of loss or damage cannot be negated. The Department of Education policy states that, “private property brought to school by students is not insured by the school or covered by school insurance, and that it is not the responsibility of the Department if that property is lost, stolen or damaged”. I would like to take this opportunity to remind our senior students to hand their mobile phones into the office on arriving to school. LOST JUMPERS Everyday lost jumpers are handed into the office with no names on the label – perhaps they have worn off after being washed several times. A great idea we have recently noticed is that some parents have written their child’s name in permanent texta on the inside of the jumper’s waist-band. This would help us return jumpers to their owners and avoid some parents becoming upset because their child has lost a jumper! LUNCHES We have a small and increasing number of children who are forgetting to pack their lunches in the morning. Could parents please ensure their children pack lunches in their school bags as well as checking there is enough food for the day? Graeme Russell
