Students may also participate in the public ANZAC Day March. Students need to assemble by 8.00am out the front of RSL House across the road from the Maroochydore RSL on Wednesday, 25 April 2018. The parade will begin at 8.30am with the main service and wreath laying at 9.00am. Students need to have their hat and wear full school uniform. The RSL have requested that, as a mark of respect for the day, that only school students and teachers march in the parade. Family members are welcome to view the parade from the sides. This is a fantastic way for our children to represent their school and acknowledge the ANZAC spirit. School leaders look forward to seeing those who can attend the event. Principals Study Tour to Singapore and Japan: Over the Easter holidays, I par- ticipated in a personally funded study tour. This involved approximately 12 Queensland Principals who visited about 10 schools and educational authorities throughout Singapore and Japan. These countries are recognised as high per- forming nations when looking at educational standards and achievement. I look forward to sharing my learnings with the Parent Reps, P and C Association and School Council. The study tour identified a number of quality features, but also helped to identify many quality practices happening in Australia. It is very clear that Australian teachers are world class when catering for a range of needs within their class and deliver highly engaging lessons. In comparison our digital learning is well advanced, also, our ovals, play grounds and open spaces certain- ly add greater potential for social skills, physical activity and enjoyment. Visiting Japanese and Singaporean schools provided an insight into their work around promoting citizenship, values education and a clear focus on agreed core learning areas. This certainly provides stability and success over the long term. I look forward to sharing more insights in the future across various forums. Congratulaons to Holly (4B) who competed in 3 Dance Eisteddfods across the Sunshine Coast and Bris- bane during the holidays . Holly has been dancing since the age of three and currently dances with Encoreat Warana. Holly who is our own ‘2017 Lile Creekers Got TalentWinner now has more trophies and bling to add to her collecon. Holly came 1st in Under 8 Jazz and 2nd in Under 8’s Lyrical at the Sun- shine Coast Eisteddfods and placed an amazing 2nd place against girls in the Under 12 age group. Holly then went on to compete at Caboolture, placing 1st in Acro and Jazz and 2nd in Lyrical. Holly also competed in groups for Encoreplacing 1st. Congratulaons Holly on your amaz- ing achievements!

YEAR 6 LEADERS

YEAR 6 LEADERSHIP DAY Our elected School Leaders were invited to attend MCSS new Leadership Skill Development Program last week. It was run by teachers from Bilai Environmental Education Centre. The activities that were undertaken encouraged listening, sharing, team work and helping each other out. All qualities needed in their leadership roles for 2018. Here is a short article written by two of our leaders...

On Friday 23rd March we grabbed our bags and pencil cases and gathered in the hall. We met our instructors and talked about active listening, teamwork, trust and leadership skills. After we finished talking we played a small game of trust falls. To do this game you must be able to trust your group of 3-4. 2 people stand opposite to each other and the 3rd person stands in the middle leaving the 4th person to supervise. So the person in the middle will fall backwards with the person behind them catching them and pushing them to the other player. After morning tea we headed over to the hall to start the next activity. The first rotation was the cloud bridge. To play this you had to put mats down on the floor but had to get there to the other side with your whole group and have one foot on the mat at all times. The catch was that you had only had 10 mats and you couldn’t touch the floor. After lunch we headed to the oval. We took our bags and lined up in rows of two. Next we went up the stairs on the back of the hall and sat down on the veranda and got sorted into groups of 6. We felt as if the activity was an obstacle course. However, we were sadly mistaken for we had to build… CATAPAULTS! We walked down the stairs and walked across the oval to some wood, bolts, rope and tools. First, we had to tie a figure 8 and repeat that pattern. Next, we had to place a piece of wood down on the floor and then screw it to the ground. Then we had tie pieces of wood together to make a v shape. Next, we had to sticky tape the sling onto the V shaped pieces of wood. Then the fun part came…Flinging wet sponges into the air and trying to hit inflatables. We had lots of fun with these challenging and we didn’t want to go home but unfortunately we didn’t have a choice….We all said goodbye and off we went. By Cloe(5W) and Charlotte (5T)

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS RESOURCE CENTRE YEAR 5

I hope you are all well and that you enjoyed your break. We have been having such an awesome time in Shine over the past term. The girls have really enjoyed the first Term’s focus which is VALUE – valuing themselves and valuing others. The girls have learnt that, because they are so valuable, they need to take good care of themselves (their hair, skin, mind, body - nutrition and exercise, etc.). The last session focused on nutrition and exercise. Caroline Hutchinson from 92.7 Mix FM Radio Station shared her personal testimony which was very powerful. She also encouraged the girls to look at themselves and love them-selves and the wonderful unique qualities that each of them have. We ended the session with a ZUMBA class which the girls really enjoyed. Even I took part but must admit, I had to deal with the consequences the next day. My body was very sore. We are starting up Sporting Schools again this term (Week 5) and are run-ning two programs, Soccer and Tennis. Please watch this space for more information on how to register for this FREE program. The Chaplaincy Service is also really excited about a boys program which we are busy developing. Its going to be fantastic for the older boys at Mountain Creek and we can’t wait to get it off the ground. We are looking at starting it in the Term 3. I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your week. Chappy
