Dear Nighthawk Parents and Students,
We have quickly come to the end of the six week grading period of the second
semester. The tough part of this is that this marks the point where we only have 12
weeks left with our seniors. We edge towards CAASPP testing, which come up after
spring break in April. Our winter sports have come to an end with some of the high-
lights being our wrestling team finishing 2nd in league and fifth in CIF. Our boys
basketball team finishing in third place in the Southwestern League and making it to
the CIF playoffs. Our boys soccer team earning a spot in the CIF playoffs and our
girls water polo team finishing first, once again, in the Southwestern League. Our
Robotics program had at least one team qualify for the state tournament. Our drama
program just performed a Shakespearean play and is preparing for the spring play.
Our band will participate in the spring festival and host their concert in March. Our
choir is preparing for festival and their New Orleans trip. Our spring sports have
kicked off. Science Olympiad and Mock trial are still competing and Virtual Enter-
prise is preparing for nationals. The Scholar Bowl competition takes place on cam-
pus in the next month. We also will hold our annual Mr. Nighthawk completion.
We have been working through the course registration process with our students. The
on line course selection window is open in March. We encourage parents to engage
with students in selecting courses for next year. March 11th is our MVHS Showcase.
This event will take place in our gymnasium. The Murrieta Fire Department very
graciously donated two fire trucks to Murrieta Valley High School to help kickoff
our new fire science pathway in the fall.
Congratulations to our campus security officer Ron Nelson for being selected as the
2019 Riverside County Classified Employee of the Year. Ron brings a positive stu-
dent-first approach to Murrieta Valley High School each and every day. He touches
many hearts. As we work to build a positive and engaging culture for our students,
our faculty has worked to rewrite our mission statement. The Mission of Murrieta
Valley High School is to inspire academic excellence, to create a caring and respect-
ful community and to foster integrity and character in our students.

Attendance Office Has Moved!
Please note that our Attendance Office has moved from the current location in the main office to
just west of the Performing Arts Center (theatre) at the front of the school. You can access the
Attendance Office directly from the parking lot—you do not need to go to the Security Office first.
Students who arrive late to school, and parents who are here to pick up their students early from
school should go directly to the new Attendance Office for assistance. You will still need to show
your ID. Your student will be released to you from there.
Please be patient as we adjust to this new procedure. Our goal is always the safety of our students.

MVHS Drama Update
The Advanced Drama and Technical De-sign students produced Shakespeare’s 12th Night for their final main stage show. They developed strong characters, built a beautiful set, and hit a home run with traditional period costumes from the Re-
naissance era. “It was an exciting to see the students in these beautiful gar-ments”, said Wheaton. Some of the gar-ments were rented from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. “Our students were wearing the cos-tumes from the big boys,” Wheaton
joked. The team wishes to do a shout to our MVHS own Kathy LeFiell and par-ent volunteer Mrs. Lisa Delzompo for stepping up to help make costumes.
Now that the team has closed 12th Night they will focus on the school wide spring musical, Sister Act that will open April 11-13th and 18-20th in our performing arts center. If you missed out on 12th Night- see Sister Act! This talented team should not be missed.

Students!
It is extremely important that you are checking your student
email at least every week— all important information from
MVHS/MVUSD is sent directly to your student email only.
Please go to Outlook/Office 365:
If you cannot remember your email password,
please see Mrs. Gaines in Counseling.
(You can reset Aeries/Haiku passwords on your own)
PARENTS: Please remember to use the designated drop-off and pick-up spots
when taking your students to/from school.
Additional room has been added along Fullerton to assist with safety.
Please do not release students in the parking lot at the
front parking area— this adds to the traffic
and reduces safety of students who need to cross to enter school.
Late/tardy drop-offs need to check in at the Attendance Office,
not through the security gate. (Right of the PAC)
Most importantly: remember that safety of our students is
our top priority. We have many new drivers on and around campus.
No cellphones & follow the rules of the road.

DISTRICT WIDE GENDER NEUTRAL DRESS CODE POLICY
Dress and Grooming AR 5132(a)
The Governing Board believes that the responsibility for the dress and grooming of a student rests primarily with the
student and his or her parents or guardians and that appropriate dress and grooming contribute to a productive learn-
ing environment. Therefore, the Board expects students to give proper attention to personal cleanliness and to wear
clothes that are suitable for the school activities in which they participate.
School-directed changes to a student’s attire or grooming should be the least restrictive and disruptive to the student’s
school day. Any school dress code enforcement actions should minimize the potential loss of educational time. Ad-
ministration and enforcement of the dress code shall be gender neutral and consistent.
The policy applies to all individual schools. Schools may not enact more restrictive or less restrictive dress and
grooming codes.
Minimum Safe Attire
Student attire and grooming must permit the student to participate in learning without posing a risk to the health or
safety of any student or school district personnel.
A) Students must wear clothing including both a shirt with pants or a skirt, or the equivalent (for example dresses,
leggings or shorts) and shoes.
B) When the body is standing straight, clothing must cover the chest, back, torso, stomach, and lower extremities
from armpit to armpit to mid-thigh. Tops must have a strap and at no time may ay part of a student’s buttocks be
exposed.
C) Clothing must cover all undergarments. No underwear or undergarments may be visible at any time. Clothing
may not be see through.
D) Outside sports apparel and hats that are not directly related to the current school of attendance are prohibited.
E) Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities including physical education, science labs, shop
classes, field trips or other activities where unique hazards or specialized attire or safety gear is required. Bare feet
are not permitted at any time.
Attire and/or grooming depicting or advocating violence, weapons, criminal activity, gang-related activity (including
clothes, accessories or colors identified by MPD as gang-affiliated), use or tobacco, alcohol or drugs, pornography,
foul language, hate speech, or clothing that could be considered dangerous or that could be used as a weapon are pro-
hibited.
Dress Code Enforcement
No list of dress and appearance guidelines for students can be written that will anticipate all potential dress and
grooming extremes. In the case of questionable dress or grooming that is not specifically covered in the list above,
the administration will make the final decision. Appropriate action will be taken at that time, and when necessary,
contact will be made seeking parental cooperation and assistance.
The administration retains the sole discretion to make the final determination whether clothing, jewelry, accessories
and/or appearance meet acceptable standards. All school certificated and classified staff shall be responsible for re-
porting violations of this dress code. When a dress code violation occurs, the student will be required to change into
proper attire. Continued violations of this dress code will be considered defiance and will be referred to administra-
tion for disciplinary action.
