Kindergarten Enrolments

Enrolments for students who are eligible to attend school in 2021 are now being taken. Eligible students are those who turn 5 before July 31, 2021. If you have a child or you know of anyone who has a child who is able to attend school in 2021, please ask them to come and enrol. Applications for enrolments are now being taken at the school office. Please present your child’s Immunisation record, Birth Certificate and evidence of your residential address at the time of application. Dates and information regarding our Little Learners program will be released soon.

Student Reports

Semester 1 reports will be sent home at the end of Week 5 Term 3, Friday 21st August due to COVID-19 shut down. The delay in handing these out will allow teachers to better assess our students and give a fairer indication on how they are progressing. There will be a different format of this report, with no A-E grading documented rather a substantial comment in both English and Mathematics. The report will focus on learning that has occurred both at home and at school during Semester 1. Please remember to book an interview with your classroom teacher if you require one.

Little Mermaid Show and Stage 3 Camp

Due to the COVID situation the Little Mermaid show scheduled for Term 1 was postpone. The company who performs this show has now informed us that the show has been cancelled due to the uncertainty around the restrictions. Rather than refunding the money to the students who paid, we have given them a credit on their account, which will be used for the next paid activity. This may include school sport, end of year trip or excursion and so on. Any unused money at the end of the year will be refunded. Similarly with our Stage 3 excursion to Ballarat. Due to the uncertainty of restrictions and cross State requirements we have been forced to cancel the trip. Saying that, I know how much enjoyment our students get from such a trip and I am investigating a possible overnight excursion to another area within our State. I will know more as the term continues and further restrictions are reduced. I will keep in contact with the relevant parents as we progress.

Application for Opportunity Class Placement in Year 5 in 2021

If your child is seeking Year 5 opportunity class placement in 2021 you are required to submit an application online between Tuesday 9th June 2020 and 26th June 2020. Finally, I would like to congratulate students who received an award at our first virtual assembly last Friday. Unfortunately parents could not attend, however hopefully we can develop our online processes to include parents in the coming weeks.

SACC News ‘Sea of Hands’

Last week we wrapped up Reconciliation Week with a ‘Sea of hands’ out the front of school. This was a wonderful effort by all of the students, teachers and SaCC playgroupers. Every hand was proudly on display with the hashtags of #InThisTogether which was the theme of this years Reconciliation Week. The hands were also used as an important learning tool for Sorry Day and conversations held in the classroom about Aboriginal culture and people. There were so many great displays but these outstanding efforts will be awarded with a U Beaut Lexi 1/2M, Jaynie, Jett and Chloe 5/6D, Audrey and Tully 2B, Amy, BJ and Azalea 5/6C , Azlah and Avah KN, Kyliyah and Chloe 3/4S, Zahli, Mitch and Kelsi 5/6M, Lillee and Matilda 3/4V, Xanthe, Jamin and Sam 3/4C Thank you again to everyone who made a hand and had a look at our display out the front of the school last week. It has been very busy in our classroom over the past few weeks, and it has been great to welcome everyone back! In English we have been learning about narratives, and last week we started writing our own. Over the next few weeks students will continue with these, and they will each have their own published narrative as their end product. We have also been learning about summarising, which is one of the Super Six strategies of reading that we are practicing in class. In History we have been learning about the history of migration to Australia and in PD/H/PE we have been discussing and learning about stereotypes. We have been doing some hands on learning in Math. Students were learning about volume and capacity by estimating and measuring a variety of containers with water. They also practiced converting millilitres to litres. Last week we were learning about angles and this week we will be learning about 3D space.
