FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

It is that time of the year again, and it seems as though it was just yesterday that we were all

sitting down together for Progress Interviews. This has been a very busy year with much

happening. One of the highlights of this year is the development of our new premises. We are

extremely fortunate to be able to start the new year in these long-awaited premises. I thank all

the loyal families who have stayed with us through the years while we have been waiting for

these premises.

I can’t wait to see you all at our Celebration of Achievement at the end of the month.

I wish you all a restful and fun holiday period.

SCHOOL AND ACADEMIC MATTERS

Lost Property Children and parents have until the 6 December 2017 to collect any lost property which has been collected over the past year. Items which have not been collected will be donated/sold or recycled. You can collect at the Bookshop. As of next year we will be getting rid of unclaimed items on a regular basis to avoid a pile-up such as that experienced this year. Please ensure that all clothing, bags, lunchboxes etc are clearly labelled, check that faded/washed items have been re-labelled and encourage your children to be more conscious of their personal belongings. Labelled items are returned to children by our staff.

New premises’ = fresh start 😊

End-of-Year Progression Tests The children are in the process of completing their year-end Progression assessments during the month of November. These progression tests, which are set by Cambridge, help to ensure that the children have understood the concepts covered during the year and that they are ready for the challenges ahead in their new Stage.

These assessments are diagnostic and do not determine pass or fail; therefore, please do not place undue pressure on your child around these ‘exams’ as this will mean that we will not get accurate diagnostic information from these assessments. We do not want to see how well a child can prepare; rather we want to determine successful skill acquisition. We require every child to try their very best, and that is not possible if the child is pressurised, uncomfortable or stressed about the assessment. Ensure that your children have a healthy routine, eat healthily and that they get sufficient sleep Lastly, please have fun with your children and maintain a balance between work and play because happy children learn better and happy children perform better. Class Parties From Birthday to End-of-the-year parties, we are happy to help your child celebrate their very special days. Here are some tips to help make each party a success without hampering valuable class time:

1. Cupcakes are better than a full cake –no knives or plates means no mess, no fuss! 2. Party-packs are welcome – children are encouraged to take most of it home 3. Keep it small – If you prefer a big bash, rather hire a party venue where all the

attention is on your child’s special day 4. Chat with the class teacher beforehand to see the most suitable times, preferences

etc.
