Wow! The year has certainly flown by. This is our last edition of our newsletter for the 2017. Thank you to everyone who attended the AGM, especially those who nominated for positions on the committee. I’m sure that everyone who came along picked up some great tips from Nicole the dietician and enjoyed seeing the pictures of the kinder from nearly 50 years ago. The Kids Christmas Party at the Kew Traffic School was an awesome afternoon. The kids enjoyed the sunshine, riding, Santa and the sausages and it was a lovely social way to finish the year. Thanks to Deb and her team for all of their hard work and to Santa for making a guest appearance. The Committee of Management are happy to announce that over the coming weeks the chain mesh fence will be covered with some anti-scale screens made specifically for kinders. This project will address an issue that has been a concern for many years and are very excited to see the completed fence. I would like to acknowledge the wonderful Eastmont staff and thank them for their hard work and care of our children this year. 2018 will see some staffing changes with Marie taking long service leave in Term 1 and some additional staff joining the team. Finally, I would like to thank the 2017 Committee of Management. It has been a fantastic year for the Pre-School and this is due to the dedicated work of Lisa, Michelle, Ellen, Flora, Natalie, Cassie, Penny, Ash, Amanda and Deborah. It has been a pleasure to lead the committee and I have thoroughly enjoyed my year as President. Melissa Crozier President On behalf of Eastmont Pre-School Association Inc. Wow! The year has certainly flown by. This is

our last edition of our newsletter for the 2017. Thank

you to everyone who attended the AGM, especially

those who nominated for positions on the committee.

I’m sure that everyone who came along picked up some

great tips from Nicole the dietician and enjoyed seeing

the pictures of the kinder from nearly 50 years ago.

The Kids Christmas Party at the Kew Traffic School was an awesome afternoon. The

kids enjoyed the sunshine, riding, Santa and the sausages and it was a lovely social way to

finish the year. Thanks to Deb and her team for all of their hard work and to Santa for

making a guest appearance.

The Committee of Management are happy to announce that over the coming weeks

the chain mesh fence will be covered with some anti-scale screens made specifically for

kinders. This project will address an issue that has been a concern for many years and are

very excited to see the completed fence.

I would like to acknowledge the wonderful Eastmont staff and thank them for their

hard work and care of our children this year. 2018 will see some staffing changes with Marie

taking long service leave in Term 1 and some additional staff joining the team.

Finally, I would like to thank the 2017 Committee of Management. It has been a

fantastic year for the Pre-School and this is due to the dedicated work of Lisa, Michelle, Ellen,

Flora, Natalie, Cassie, Penny, Ash, Amanda and Deborah. It has been a pleasure to lead the

committee and I have thoroughly enjoyed my year as President.

3-Year Old Report

The children are all very settled with just a couple of children having

separation issues just at the beginning of the session, these children calm down

quite quickly and then enjoy the rest of the session. The most popular place to be

at the moment in 3 Year old is the “handbag and shoe shop”, the children are

enjoying trying on all the shoes and then paying for them at the cash registers.

The shop gives the children the opportunity to independently take their shoes and

socks off and on and make decisions about which shoes they prefer. They also talk

in mathematical terms, deciding how much the shoes are going to cost, and

whether they are too expensive or good value! We have had everything from $2 -

$100, and I have found that one of the favourite pairs of shoes are the floral wedge

high heels in both 3&4 year old groups.

Last week the children have enjoyed using PVA glue in sauce bottles. They

drizzle this all over their paper and then sprinkle glitter all over their paper,

providing a lovely sparkly pattern. This week we are making the children’s names

in glitter using the PVA glue, we write their names in the glue and the children

choose which colours they would like to use, you will see these on our walls soon.

The children enjoyed participating in the Drama Toolbox incursion with the

theme of “Under the Sea”, and on November 9th the rest of the group will get their

opportunity as they return to our group this time to perform in the “Circus”. Thank

you to the Committee for providing this to the families free of charge.

As this is the last monthly meeting before our Annual General meeting next

week, I would just like to thank all the members of the Committee for your time

and involvement in the kindergarten over this year. It is great to work with you

all, and see the great community spirit that we have at Eastmont Pre- School.

4-Year Old Report

Last week we held 4 very successful Grandparents/Special Friend’s days, with

more than 50 special visitors attending over the week. Thank you to the families who

made delicious morning teas.

There are school transitions on most days and the children come back very

excited with lots of news about what they did.

The Shoe and Handbag shop is very busy, the slippers with curly toes and the

high heels being the most popular.

The children are also spending more time creating art work and making more

detailed pictures, especially using paint at the easels and water colours and pastels

at the table.

The children are also enjoying playing Memory card games and Bush Bingo in

small groups with their peers. Some children are familiar with these games, having

played them with older siblings and others are encountering them for the first time.

They are all having fun and developing their working memory and lots of other skills

as they play.

Many of the children are also enjoying completing work sheets, dot to dots,

tracing shapes and cutting out shapes etc. that are great for finger and hand strength

and fine motor development.

We have started learning some Christmas songs as each group will be

performing a simple Nativity play in December. Grandparents and siblings are

welcome to attend.

Possum’s play will be on Friday 8th December. Please arrive at 3.25pm for a

3.30pm start.

The Koala’s play will be on Thursday 14th December. Please arrive at 3.40pm

for a 3.45pm start.

Christmas Parties for each group will be during the last hour of the last session

for each group. The last kinder session for the year for the Possums will be

Wednesday 20th December and the last for the Koala’s will be Thursday 21st

December. Families are welcome to join us. If you would like to contribute some food

for the parties please add your name to the list that will be placed in the foyer in

December.

At Eastmont Pre-School we offer a play-based, child centred-curriculum

that is guided by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development

Framework and the Early Years Learning Framework. We aim to create a

warm, caring, inclusive environment where children of all abilities feel

relaxed, supported and happy and are able to explore, discover, imagine and

create.

We promote respect and care for other children, adults and all living

creatures as well as an appreciation of nature and respect for the

environment.

We respect individual differences and foster an environment in which

each child and educator is supported and valued for the unique

strengths and interests that they bring to the group.

We provide opportunities that encourage and develop, self-esteem, a

positive self-image and communication and independence skills.

We recognise that families are a child’s first and most important

educators and seek to work in collaborative partnerships with them to

ensure the best outcome for all children. We welcome and encourage

family involvement in all aspects of our service.

We value cultural diversity and acknowledge that Aboriginal and

Torres Strait Islander people are the traditional owners of the land and

the original inhabitants of Australia.

We recognise that Eastmont Pre-School is part of our local community

and value opportunities to contribute to that community.

We continually strive to improve the quality of our service.

Allergy Alert There are children attending Eastmont Pre-School this year, in the 3 and 4 year old

groups, that suffer from life threatening allergies to peanuts and cashew nuts. Even trace

amounts of these can cause a reaction.

Regulations require that we bring this to the attention of the kindergarten community and ask

that all children in all groups;

Do not bring

PEANUT BUTTER or any food containing

PEANUTS or CASHEW NUTS to kinder.

Chocolate and other food that states “may contain traces of nuts” is acceptable.

To minimise the transfer of allergens from home please ensure your child washes their

hands at home before they come to kinder.

If any of our Eastmont families have somebody employed in an organisation that offers

community grants through staff members, you could help us secure valuable funding

for the kinder! We know of the following companies that offer grants for staff with an

interest in community organisations:

- Telstra - RACV - NAB - ANZ

- CommBank - Suncorp - Bendigo Bank

If you work for one of these companies, or any other with a corporate grants and

sponsorships program, please let us know at [email protected]
