President’s Report

Hello Wirreanda Community! Lots of great news to share with this edition of our Prattler! I would like to thank Nicole Young, and congratulate her on her first official event in her new role as Vice President fundraising. Nicole took the lead on the Federal Election barbecue, and whilst I will leave the final tally announcement to Nicole, I will commend her on running one of the most successful fundraising barbecue’s this P&C has ever hosted. Thank you to everyone in our Wirreanda Community who assisted with cakes, sweet treats and donations for the pun-filled cake stall, and to all those who volunteered one or several hours over the day to help cook and serve. A massive thank you as well to everyone in our community who has helped stick literally tens of thousands of stickers on to charts for the ‘Earn and Learn’ program at Woolworths. I have made it a goal as president this year to encourage new parents to get involved in the capacity they are able to. I want to make sure everyone knows that participation in the P&C is not just for those who can make the meetings - we need lots of other help too! As little as half an hour a term will help us! I was so pleased to see a number of ‘new’ volunteers help out with baking goods, and even two new volunteers serving on Election Day. We have also had a number of Mums put their hand up to take bags of stickers home to put on pages, some of which have been ‘new’ volunteers also. I look forward to continuing to reach out to our parent community even more as we hit the busy planning mode for our Spring Fair. Please don’t be afraid to come join us! Wow! Term 2 just raced by!! Following on from the success of Term 1, we have enjoyed a successful Mother’s Day Stall and also profited from the recent Federal Election! Days after the manic Mother’s day stall, we put the call out for baked donation to be sold at the Federal Election BBQ, and our calls were answered! We had amazing treats to sell, as well as our famous “pollie lollies”, democracy sausages, bureaucratic bacon and egg rolls and who doesn’t love a Wirreanda works burger? But our biggest draw card had to be our awesome students that were spruiking up a storm and getting sales from the most reluctant voter!! (so big thanks to Lucas Stokes, Sarah O’Rourke, Cody Parrott, Xavier Vaughan and the whole team of kidlets that joined in the fun- especially Ryan and Anna McKew who both really helped with the pre 7am morning set up). As a result of our efforts, we managed to bring in a tidy $2293.10 being added to the bank account! (Great profit, but boy are we relieved that we get a break for a few years!!).

We are at the end of the Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker bonanza. Big thanks to Holly McKew and Jacquie Stokes for emptying the boxes around Medowie and Raymond Terrace. There have been a number of Mummy wine and sticker nights, as well as family sticker nights held over the long weekend. We understand that Woolworths Medowie and Raymond Terrace have exhausted their supply of stickers, but it isn’t too late to bring any in that are lying around the house and ensure that Wirreanda get the biggest bang from the sticker bucks! Please bring in any you have by tomorrow as it is the last possible day to be accepted. (The stickers translate to being able to buy awesome gear for the school!!).

Finally, if you love a good discount, Wirreanda are still selling the Newcastle/Central Coast Entertainment books. You can order one now and get started on the 2019/2020 deals. We have 2 hard copy books left at the front office and digital versions can be bought for your phone. At $65 ea, these little beauties usually pay themselves off by the second time you use them. Not to mention how handy they will be with upcoming school holidays, how much easier will 2 weeks off be when you can take advantage of the 25% or more off the price of meals, entertainment, accommodation, car hire you name it!!
