Day 3 & 4: Tues, Wed Feb 11th, 12th Masai Mara
Begin your exploration of this beautiful country as you drive to the Masai Mara, Kenya’s most famous wildlife reserve and the setting for much of the film Out of Africa. It is classic savannah grasslands, where animals are plentiful and the vistas spectacular. Here Maasai tend their cattle in concert with free roaming wildlife – all sharing the same land with minimal conflicts. You will have two days of wildlife-viewing opportunities in the Maasai Mara Reserve, also known as the “Jewel of Africa,” inhabited by many of Africa's most popular wild animals, including lion, cheetah, elephant, leopard, black rhino and hippo. There are over 500 resident species of birds in the park including ostrich, larks and sunbirds as well as the lovely Lilac-breasted Roller. The area is famous for rolling grassland and for the Mara River, which runs through the park from north to south. The park covers an area of 700 square miles and forms part of the Serengeti ecosystem, hosting the world famous spectacle of the annual migration of up to two million wildebeest, thousands of zebra and an escort of carnivores as they follow the rains and succulent new grass. A costly trek as many of the lame, laggard and sick will fall prey to ravenous packs of predators and many more will die crossing the swirling flood waters of the Mara River.
DAY 2 : Monday, Feb 10th Nairobi
Optional activities (at additional cost) include a balloon safari for an exhilarating experience over the
savannah and breakfast on the plains as the early sun rises and the animals are more active. Or, you can
visit a Maasai Village to see how this nomadic tribe has existed through the millennia in harmony with
nature.

Day 5: Thursday, Feb 13th Lake Nakuru National Park After breakfast drive to Lake Nakuru, the most famous of the Great Rift Valley lakes and home to a shifting population of over one million flamingos. Arrive in time for lunch at the Sarova Lion Hill Lodge, which enjoys sweeping views across the lake. Lion Hill Lodge impresses every guest with its panoramic view of the pink shoreline created by millions of flamingos on Lake Nakuru. The Lodge is situated within the Lake Nakuru National Park in the Rift Valley Province and is surrounded by natural flora and fauna in its beautiful grounds.
Spend the afternoon on safari in Kenya's first and largest rhino sanctuary where sightings of both black and white rhino are almost guaranteed and where you have a higher than average chance of spotting a leopard. Other wildlife includes; lion, hippo, the rare Rothschild's giraffe, Columbus monkey, numerous plains game and 450 species of birds. Ark overlooks the popular waterhole where occasionally the elusive bongo can be seen. Dinner and
overnight at The Ark.
Set in the heart of the Aberdares National Park, The Ark
overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick which attracts a host
of awesome wildlife such as elephant, rhino, leopard, bushbuck
and occasionally an elusive bongo or giant forest hog.

Day 7 : Saturday, Feb 15th Samburu Game Reserve
Continue on your journey to Samburu Game Reserve. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed with lunch at
your lodge, followed by an afternoon game drive. Samburu National Reserve lies on the borderland of a vast, physically dramatic desert featuring rocky battlements, craggy scarps, dry riverbeds, and fallen boulders. Thorn scrub rises against a backdrop of distant hills and the great red table mountain known as Ololokwe. It is within the lands of the colorful Samburu people, close relatives of the Maasai, and is home to a number of wildlife species rarely found elsewhere in Kenya: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa Oryx, all found only north of the equator. The graceful gerenuk antelope, with its characteristic long neck, spends much of its time on two legs, seeking relaxation in the sparse scrub that grows in this harsh terrain. This dramatic landscape is blanketed by the hot equatorial sun for most of the year. Relief comes from the cool waters of the Uaso Nyiro ("Brown") River, which rises to the west on the foothills of the Aberdares and which vanishes beyond Samburu in the soggy expanse known as the Lorian swamp. The scenery in Samburu is magnificent and the birdlife awesome Overnight: Samburu Sopa Lodge Meal Plan: Full Board Website: http://www.sopalodges.com/samburu/home.html
Day 8: Sunday Feb 16th Samburu Game Reserve Today’s game drives provide ample opportunity to explore this fascinating reserve. You will have morning and afternoon game-viewing drives in search of the 'big five', other wildlife and a large number of bird species. Lunch will be at the camp. At the height of the heat of the day it is common to see the elephants on the other side of the river, or even sometimes in camp, as they browse and frolic in the cooling waters of the river. This is a perfect time to relax and reflect – a time to write in journals, read or take a swim in the pool. In the late afternoon we venture into other parts of Samburu Reserve in search of some of the growing elephant families that populate Samburu Reserve. Day 9: Monday Feb 17th Ol Pejeta Conservancy Depart for the privately-owned 24,000 acre reserve, Ol Pejeta Conservancy where another adventure
begins at your luxurious tented camp with magnificent views of Mt. Kenya. Arrive for lunch followed by
afternoon game viewing drive. Dinner and overnight.
This is one of only four private wildlife reserves in Kenya; your under-canvas experience includes
wildlife drives in search of the ‘Big Five’. Watch a parade of elephant, giraffe, zebra and impala come to
drink at the camp’s floodlit waterhole and saltlick. Optional activities abound, you may choose to go on a
night drive in search of nocturnal species, go on a nature walk or join a rhino patrol with experienced
armed rangers to find and monitor black rhino.
During your stay here, you will also visit the 200-acre Chimpanzee sanctuary that has been set up here. Although chimps are not indigenous to Kenya, the aim of the project, initiated by Lonhro East Africa, Kenya Wildlife Services and the Jane Goodall Institute, was to set up a colony where chimps could be introduced, rehabilitated and taught to fend for themselves in an area similar to their natural living conditions. Priority is given to orphaned and abused chimps. The Sanctuary currently has 27 chimps, including two babies born in the Sanctuary. There is also a new Visitor's Information Center at Morani's Boma. While here, you will be treated to a guided walking safari. At an optional cost, you can enjoy camel safaris, and horse-back riding. Overnight: Sweetwaters Tented Camp Meal Plan: Full Board Website: http://www.serenahotels.com/serenasweetwaters/default-en.html Day 10: Tuesday, Feb 18th Amboseli National Park
Depart to Amboseli National Park, located at the foot of Africa's highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro.
En route you will stop in Nairobi at “Pampa” or “Carnivore” Restaurant for lunch. The snow-capped peak
of Mount Kilimanjaro rises above a saucer of clouds and dominates every aspect of Amboseli. This park
covers only 150 square miles but despite its small size and its fragile ecosystem it supports a wide range
of mammals (well over 50 of the larger species) and birds (over 400 species). Drive through Amboseli
and view the game. As the sun sets, you will arrive at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Wednesday, Feb 19th Tsavo West National Park Begin your drive to Tsavo West National Park. At just over 8,000 square miles, Tsavo is the largest
national park in Kenya and one of the largest in the world. Because of its size the park was split into two,
Tsavo West and Tsavo East, for easy administration. Located midway between Nairobi and the coast, the
area boasts volcanic hills, four rivers, more than 60 major mammal species and 1,000 plant species. The
northern part of Tsavo West is the most developed and has spectacular scenery with a rolling volcanic
landscape carpeted in long grass and dense bush.
Although the tall vegetation makes game spotting trickier than in some of the other parks, Tsavo West's
bio-diversity is amazing. The landscape is a mixture of grassland and forest shrub vegetation. Thus
driving and exploring the vegetation almost assures you close encounters with the following animals:
lions, leopard, cheetah, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, kongoni, waterbuck, klipspringer, impala, gazelles,
buffalos, and elephants. Apart from Tsavo’s elephant population there are many lion –some undoubtedly
the descendants of the infamous and feared “Man-eaters of Tsavo” popularized in the film Ghost in the
Darkness. In addition to lion the resident carnivores in Tsavo include serval, hyena, leopard, cheetah,
and caracal. The landscape is dominated, especially off the hills, by the giant baobab, a tree which is
reputed to live 1,000 years.
Tsavo West is famous for the Mzima Springs. This star attraction is a pool of natural spring water with
underwater viewing hides for observing hippos where a gushing supply of fresh, crystal clear water has
created an oasis for wildlife. A specially constructed underwater observatory provides visitors with a
unique view into the underwater world of Mzima. The water catchment is divided into two pools; here
you can view hippos and crocodiles. The upper pool is occupied by the hippos and lower pool by the
crocodiles. While here, you will visit a nearby local village and school.

miles north of Mombasa Stick your toes into the soft, white sandy beaches while enjoying the extensive
coconut-palm cooled grounds, bright blossoms and the idyllic sky-blue swimming pool with thatched
“swim-up” bar. Your afternoon is at leisure to explore your fabulous resort and bask in the sunshine of
the Indian Ocean.
