You can start on the path to resilience
Three simple things you can do today 1. Take 15 minutes of
personal reflection.
2. Think of a moment when you overcame adversity to become stronger.
3. Take time to thank the women in your life who have supported you.

Welcome everyone to the 2nd Annual IWL Women’s
Leadership Conference in Louisville, KY!
We are thrilled to share this day with such a talented and passionate
group of local leaders. Getting to know you all over the last two years
has been an incredible journey. Louisville has proven to be a town that
gets it - one that understands the value of inclusion and steps up to
“walk the walk„ in support of women‘s leadership development. You all
should be proud, as we are, to be a part of this community.
All of us are here today to make strides towards our own professional development and to take back tangible
lessons for our organizations. This day is designed for that purpose and our team has worked diligently to
create a day of impact that will lead to many more days of continued growth.
Readiness is the step we take to prepare ourselves for future success and a willingness to be vulnerable and
challenge ourselves.
Resilience is the ability to adapt as we face adversity.
Women especially must be resilient to reach levels of
leadership and balance our ever-changing responsibilties.
Results drive an organization forward and prove our
efforts are of value.
Throughout the day we will explore this theme, Readiness, Resilience, Results. I encourage each of you to step
outside your comfort zone, be vulnerable and take advantage of this day. We‘ve heard the feedback from
years past and we know the difference that a day like today can make. Like many things, you will get out what
you put in. Let‘s jump in together and make this a day of impact!
Thank you to our sponsors, speakers, volunteers, board members, staff and our incredible local planning
committee for making this possible. One of the most valuable parts of our conference is the relationships
made along the way. Leverage your time, build your network and build the best version of YOU. We,re glad to
have you with us today. #ItsMyTimeIWL

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Dawne Gee has had the opportunity to enjoy a diverse broadcasting career
in her hometown. Gee is proud to celebrate 20 years with NBC affiliate, WAVE 3 anchoring every newscast
the station has offered at one time or another. She is responsible now for WAVE 3 News at 5:30pm and
7:30pm. Airing Weekends on WAVE 3, WAVE Country with Dawne Gee showcases the wonderful people,
places and events in our community. Gee enjoyed 17 years in radio broadcasting in the city, ending her
career at Cox Radio as an On-Air Personality and Promotion Director of all the company’s local properties.
What Gee has enjoyed most throughout her broadcasting career is her connection to the community. Her
goal is to deliver the news accurately, quickly and objectively each day while also stepping out of that role of
newscaster to be a leader and a part of the community. She donates her time and efforts to organizations
all over Kentucky and Indiana almost every day of the week. It is with pride that Gee recites the words of
Louisville’s native son and Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali, “My service to others is the rent I pay
to stay on this earth.” Gee has recently founded two non-profits. “A Recipe to End Hunger” published its
first cook book in December of 2014. 100% of the proceeds of every book sold will go to feed children
in food insecure homes. Gee also stepped up with the help of friends from University of Louisville Dental
School and The Kentucky Lions Eye to give free dental care and eye exams to any elementary age child for
free.
Gee holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of
Louisville. Her faith and family keep her grounded. She has two sons, Eric and Alexander and a daughter,
Brittney. Her Mother, Father, Sister, Nieces and Nephews spend time with her daily.

Join Karen Hough, CEO and bestselling and award-winning author, for a high-energy, engaging keynote on how
to leverage your authentic presence for maximum impact. Managing perceptions and influencing others is critical
whether you’re in a one-on-one meeting or presenting formally to an audience of hundreds. And the little known
art of improvisation is all about thinking on your feet, reading your audience and reacting in the moment. It’s a
critical part of being a powerful person, and you will leave this workshop with new ideas and skills you can put to
use immediately.
You will learn:
• 3 outdated presentation rules to break immediately
• One simple, powerful way to win over a client or an audience
• Persuasion techniques to apply to a room of 100 or a sit-down meeting for 2
• The foundational principles of improv, which allow for maximum flexibility, no matter what happens!
After working with thousands of professionals and
executives in many industries, and being a professional
presenter herself, Karen shows us that it’s the outdated
rules that make us stiff and uncomfortable. Being
yourself in an authentic and passionate way, will always
be better than following a bunch of bad advice and
outdated rules. The session will explore how we can
move past expectations that keep us confined, is full of
success stories, and is lighthearted and funny.
Ms. Hough is an Amazon bestselling author, contributor to the Huffington Post and Inc.com, recipient of the silver
International Stevie Award for Most Innovative Business of the Year 2012, and the Athena PowerLink Award for
outstanding woman-owned business. She trained and performed with Chicago’s legendary Second City, was featured in
film, radio and stage. She led a second life as a successful IT executive and finally became an entrepreneur. ImprovEdge
has a presence in five cities and a client list that includes ESPN, JPMorgan, Coach, Turner Broadcasting and Novo
Nordisk to name a few.

Charity Spotlight | 1:05pm - 1:15pm
Charity Spotlight RecipientDress for Success LouisvilleAs part of the conference, the IWL Foundation Conference Planning
Committee unanimously chooses a Kentucky not-for-profit organization
as its Charity Spotlight Award Recipient. By highlighting the work of a
worthy organization, IWL Foundation draws attention to critical needs we
face throughout the state. These organizations sometimes work quietly
and without recognition in our communities to better the lives of women
and children who may not have the capacity to help themselves. They help
women build stronger networks, create opportunities and become the
best version of themselves.
What is Dress for Success?
Dress for Success Louisville’s mission is to promote the economic independence of
disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support, and
the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
Their purpose is to offer long-lasting solutions that enable women to break the
cycle of poverty. Dress for Success Louisville is part of a global movement for
change, empowering women to obtain safer and better futures. They provide each
client with professional attire to secure employment, but they are about much more
than simply a new outfit. Besides physically equipping the client with apparel and
accessories, the programs furnish her with a confidence that she carries forever and
the knowledge that she can actively define her life, the direction she takes and what
success means to her.
The History of Dress for Success Louisville
Dress for Success Louisville is proud of their strong lineage. The Louisville affiliate was
founded in 2000 after a national news program brought attention to the organization,
started in New York City. Two Louisville women were motivated to bring the services
and career development opportunities to the women in the Kentuckiana community.
Since that time, the Louisville chapter has assisted more than 15,000 women from
over 100 member agencies including the Center for Women and Families, The Family
Scholar House, Goodwill Industries and the Louisville Urban League. Dress for Success
Louisville now serves Jefferson, Oldham, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Henry, Meade, Nelson
and Trimble counties in Kentucky and Clark, Floyd, Harrison and Washington in Indiana.
How can you help?
Your support will dramatically improve the lives of countless women, their friends,
family and future generations in the Louisville Metropolitan Area! Beyond clothing and
monetary donations, you are welcome to call 502-584-8050 about volunteering at our

Power Sessions or Networking
We all have different personality types, leadership styles and preferences. We also network in our own way.
Use this worksheet to determine your style, link that to your answer above and then use this information to
connect with purpose today.
The CollectorThe Collector values networking in terms of how many business cards she collects. Quantity wins out over quality for this social
butterfly. She will prepare beforehand and then work the room with admirable small talk and lighthearted conversation. You can
also count on a timely follow up afterwards.
The BonderThe Bonder values networking in terms of making a few, valuable connections in the day. She would rather talk to a few people at
a deeper level than meet the masses. The Bonder will follow up with thoughtfulness and take the time to ask questions.
The ImproviserThe Improviser comes to a networking event without a plan; she prefers to “wing it” in social situations. She is usually
overcommitted, busy and also extremely talented in her field. The Improviser will mingle and be eager to make connections, but
may not be as likely to come in with a plan of action or follow up afterwards,
The Team PlayerThe Team Player is a person who comes into a networking event with their company or team - usually to have someone they know
and trust with them or so that they can learn together as a team. This networker tends to keep to their group, aiming to build on
the relationships they already have.
The ObserverThe Observer perfers to hang back from the crowd and enjoys listening and watching others interact. She rarely initiates
conversations with people she doesn’t know, but will eagerly join in a discussion when approached.
Your purpose should drive you today. Hopefully now you also relate to one of the networker categories we’ve provided.
Keep your style in mind as you interact with new people today and try to pinpoint others who share your purpose.
Happy connecting!
The Takeaway
What Kind of Networker Are You?

Networking | 2:25pm - 2:55pm
This panel conversation will cover the topic of “inclusion and diversity,”
purposefully stating inclusion first. Together we will discuss why we’ve
chosen this wording so carefully and how inclusion and diversity differ.
This in-depth conversation will also cover how inclusion and diversity
lend to a company’s culture, what strategies work in organizations to
create a “culture of inclusion” and how the next generation will impact
this discussion in the future.

Barbara “re-wired” while those around her retired. She likes to say, “There’s no such thing as “retirement” – it’s “Re-
Wirement!” As President & CEO of the Fund for the Arts, Barbara turned the reins over to the next generation and
became the Chief Liaison for the Compassionate Schools Project, the largest and most comprehensive study ever
undertaken of a 21st century health and wellness curriculum in an elementary school setting. As one of Louisville’s
Connectors, she helped raise more than $220 million whilst working with the Fund for the Arts, Metro United Way,
Olmsted Parks Conservancy, NCCJ, West Louisville Boys and Girls Choirs, Community Hunger Walk and many others.
Out of 59 United Art Funds in America, the Fund for the Arts was named the #1 United Art Fund in 2012 for most new
dollars raised.
She also founded a company to teach the highly sought after Street-Smart Principled Negotiation program which
focuses on teaching you how to get others to do what you want. Her clients have included Norton Healthcare, Humana,
Nissan, General Electric, Brown-Forman, D.D. Williamson, Alcoa, Old National Bank, and Yum! Brands. Barbara was
nominated for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award!
Prior to embarking on a long, successful career as a fundraiser, Barbara worked as the National Franchise Director
for the Fresher Cooker restaurant chain and was quickly promoted into the upper management ranks of Wendy’s
International. Co-Founder of two successful personnel agencies in Louisville in the early eighties.
Selected from a nationwide search to be featured in three books:
1. Speaking of Success 2007
2. Remarkable Women of Faith 2007
3. Roadmap to Success 2016
She spent her childhood dreaming of becoming the manager at Walgreens. After graduating from the University of
Louisville’s College of Business in 1979 Barbara says she learned everything she needed to know about management
and leadership at Wendy’s. Thank you Dave Thomas!
Along the way she hosted ArtBEAT! a weekly radio show and posted more than 100 CEO video blogs as the Fund
for the Arts’ avatar! She managed to make sure 400,000 arts experiences are provided for schoolchildren in our
region every year! Barbara has one daughter and six stepchildren.

TRY IS SUCH A LITTLE WORD. BUT THE REWARDS CAN BE AWFULLY BIG.We were curious, what is it within us that makes us try? And when we fail, try again? It’s a limitless desire to be better. For ourselves, our loved ones, our community. As a proud sponsor of IWL Women’s Leadership Conference, we applaud that.
