+What is Sustainability?
According to Dr. Charles L Redman, Director of the School of Sustainability at Arizona State University, says that, “sustainability is an awareness of the connectivity of the world and the implications of our actions. It is finding solutions through innovative approaches, expanding future options by practicing environmental stewardship, building governance institutions that continually learn, and instilling values that promote justice.”
+Our Definition…
Knowing what we do locally has effects globally
Finding ways to educate the general population about the link between our lifestyles and global warming/pollution
+How does society act?
Examples of how we contribute to sustainability:
Paperless bills = less deforestation
Shopping locally – less reliability on fossil fuels for transporting product
Use of solar power – reusable natural energy instead of using traditional electric sources
+How society contradicts… Recycling has less effect than what they believe, even
though it promotes awareness
Buying paper or plastic bags when shopping, instead of bringing their own cloth shopping bags
Buying hybrid cars, but driving them irresponsibly (BAD PRIUS!)
Throwing away end of life products (i.e. batteries)
Recycling bottles, but keep purchasing them
Reducing water use for landscaping, but not having drought resistant plants
