Key Elements of Music CD/DVD Magazine Advert

A magazine advert promoting a CD or DVD Digipak all have key elements that are included to help promote the product. It will usually include the cover art that features on the CD, or a photograph of artist. If the CD is not pictured a

certain design which is linked to the album that is easily recognised, this will also be included.

The name of artist and name of CD/DVD is always featured, along with featured tracks on the CD and sometimes the number of CD’s that are included if you

were to purchase the CD/DVD. The record company is sometimes included in the advert, along with the website if the album is available to download and a mention of a music store (for example HMV) where it is available to buy.

The advert will always include when it is released – or “coming soon” and a description of what is included is sometimes included on the advert along with

reviews of the CD/DVD.

This magazine advert for the release of MASTERPIECE by Jazzie B Soul II Soul includes all the key elements of a magazine advert promoting a Digipak. The Key features here include the release date, album artwork, number of disks, a description of the music in the Digipak, and a description of all the special features which come with the album and all the artists that have collaborated to create the special features. The Advert also includes a HMV website and ministry of sound website, to let the reader know where it can be purchased. The Digipak is sold to the audience by mentioning other established artists that the reader may be interested in and by showing the reader where they can buy the album online means that the reader can purchase it straight away before they read another advert and forget about it. The imagery used is very fitting to the genre of Soul and shows a very humble looking man and the colours used are all very serene and calm. The record companies persuade the reader to buy the album by using a very vivid description of the Digipak and what is included. And by using adjectives such as “luxury” and describing him as a “true pioneer” it persuades the reader to buy the album as it is painting a very good picture of the artist and his work.

The Key Features in this HedKandi CD magazine advert from Miguel Migs, titled Those Things Deluxe, comprises of all the key elements that I have come to associate with other music CD adverts. The artwork on the advert is identical to the front cover of the CD and states to the reader that it includes 2 CD’s and it is the Deluxe edition of the CD. The advert states some artists that are featured on the CD followed by the words “and many more.” The advert is sold to the audience with the bright colours and busy artwork which would appeal to the readers as the CD is aimed at clubbers who like the busy atmosphere and hectic dance music. “Hedkandi” is repeated in the advert three times which is linked with the advert below and next to this one, which promotes the website, the company and the flights that are run by HedKandi to it’s club nights in Ibiza, Barcelona, Malaga and Tenerife.

Key features of this magazine advert include in depth description of exclusive tracks and what artists were involved. The advert mentions the other tracks on the albums and what artists were involved in the CD. The advert mentions the release date, and the website to where you can download the album. The advert also mentions the radio station on which the record company plays and what times, also the an email to contact the company about licensing, an email address to query events and also distribution information. The advert mentions three ways that you can get hold of the album – 3CD, 2xEP and Download. The advert includes the artwork from the cover of the album. Along with another mini promotion that is included in the advert of the company’s new compilation CD. The company is persuading the fans to buy this album by giving away so much information about what is included and all the different ways of purchasing and formats that it comes in. Also if you did not want the featured CD there is a chance to buy another in the mini promotion that is included in The Shapeshifter’s magazine adverisement.
