Tackling is very important in the game ofrugby. The two most important things whenyou are tackling is to get your opponent onthe floor as quickly as you can to slow the

momentum of your opponent and gain theball. Low tackling is the most effective way of

getting your man on the floor.

Focus makes you make a successful tackleand can give you the progressive technique tomaster the skill of a good tackle.

There are two basic ways of kicking the ballin rugby:

From your hand e.g. The Punt, Chip kick, Boxkick.

From the ground e.g. place kick or drop kick.

  • 8/2/2019 Presentation 1 Team Sport

    36/57

It is important, if you wish to play goodrugby to practice kicking accurately usingboth feet.

You should attempt to improve accuracy,

    height and distance.

It is a good opportunity for team mates topractice receiving the ball.

The aim of the game is very simple - use the ball to score morepoints than the other team. You can run with the ball, kick it and pass it, but passing

forwards is not allowed. Rugby union is a contact sport, so you can tackle an opponent in

order to get the ball, as long as you stay within the rules. There is a referee, aided by two touch judges (one on each side

of the pitch), to decide how the rules should be applied during agame.

There are several ways to score points. A try - five points are awarded for touching the ball down in your

opponent's goal area. A conversion - two points are added for a successful kick

through the goalposts after a try A goal kick - three points are awarded for a penalty kick or drop

    goal through the posts

  • 8/2/2019 Presentation 1 Team Sport

    39/57

If both teams score the same amount of points, or no pointsare scored, then the match is a draw. In some cases, extratime is played to decide who wins.

A game of rugby union has two periods of 40

minutes each. In international matches the refereewill stop the clock for stoppages.

Between the two halves, there is a maximum 10-minute interval, after which both teams changeends.

The referee's whistle indicates the start and finishof the half.

This is another type of team sport which I willdescribing and explaining the skills andtechniques.

  • 8/2/2019 Presentation 1 Team Sport

    41/57

There are three types of techniques whichyou need to master to gain the best skills inthis sport:

    1. Shooting

    2. Passing

    3. Dribbling

  • 8/2/2019 Presentation 1 Team Sport

    42/57

When shooting at goal from a distance ormaking longer passes to your team mates, you need both power and accuracy. The topof the foot where the laces are on a

traditional boot is the best part of the foot touse for this kick.

This is a link which shows how to perform aeffective shot.

    www.mastersport.co.uk

Try to approach the ball from the side ratherthan straight on. It makes it easier to drivethe ball than if you come at it straight on.

Keep your knee bent over the ball as you kick, and keep your head over the ball.

  • 8/2/2019 Presentation 1 Team Sport

    44/57

The most accurate way of passing the football

is to use the inside of the foot. This is theflattest part of the foot giving you the most

control over where the ball goes.

    46/57

Dribbling skills can be mastered by the usingthe swerve method.

This method will help attackers get awayfrom defenders.

  • 8/2/2019 Presentation 1 Team Sport

    47/57

The body swerve is the simplest and often mostefficient means of disguise for dribbling the footballpast defenders.

When you move the ball to the side, your body

weight naturally transfers in the direction in whichyou want to go before the ball changes direction.

Defenders tend to notice the change in body weight, and learn to anticipate your move. We are going tobuild up our skills with a series of exercises, andfinish up by learning the body swerve

There are two types of Tactics in Football. They include:

Basic attacking team tactics Basic Defending team tactics

  • 8/2/2019 Presentation 1 Team Sport

    50/57

The objective of the game is to score goals, but certain variables such as the score linecan influence a particular teams desperationto perform and stir the other team up.

The following team styles represent some ofthe methods used to control the game andinstigate attacks:

Possession football, Counter-attackingfootball, Long ball direct plays etc.

  • 8/2/2019 Presentation 1 Team Sport

    51/57

There are two types of Basic defending.

They are known as Zonal and Man to Manmarking.

  • 8/2/2019 Presentation 1 Team Sport

    52/57

  • 8/2/2019 Presentation 1 Team Sport

    53/57

This is the diagram to explain the tactics theteam uses whilst performing Man to ManMarking.

  • 8/2/2019 Presentation 1 Team Sport

    54/57

To cover for a teams (or players) lack ofpace or technique, every defender andmidfielder is given a particular zone on thepitch to cover when the opposition has the

ball. As you can see in the diagram there are two

rows of four to defend the attacking front rowof the opposition.

  • 8/2/2019 Presentation 1 Team Sport

    55/57

These rules are important to take part in thesport of football.

At its core, football is a game with two teamsof eleven players, played over the course of

90 minutes. This period is split into two 45-minute halves. The objective of the game isto score more goals than the opposition. The term goal refers to two areas either sideof the pitch, each one defended by one of theteams. A goal is scored by depositing theball into the opponents area.

  • 8/2/2019 Presentation 1 Team Sport

    56/57

All Athletes are different levels have to abideby these rules if they are to be successful inthe sport of football.
