![Page 4: Presentation #1 Present Tense of Regular Verbs](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062410/56815c34550346895dca19f5/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
First, let’s look at the three singular forms of the present tense verb. Singular, of course, means referring to only one person or thing, but singular forms are also used with groups treated as a single unit, such as familia (family) and equipo (team).
![Page 5: Presentation #1 Present Tense of Regular Verbs](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062410/56815c34550346895dca19f5/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
First person (“I”)
First person refers to the speaker of the sentence, either alone (“I”) or as the spokesperson for a group (“we”).
![Page 6: Presentation #1 Present Tense of Regular Verbs](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062410/56815c34550346895dca19f5/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
In Spanish, the 1st person subject pronouns, yo and nosotros, may always be used as the subject of a sentence in which the speaker is talking about himself or herself.. Unlike in English where subject pronoun use is obligatory, subject pronouns are often omitted in Spanish.
![Page 7: Presentation #1 Present Tense of Regular Verbs](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062410/56815c34550346895dca19f5/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
If a speaker is talking about himself or herself, the verb must indicate the agreement between the subject and the verb through the use of an first person singular ending. This form is formed by adding the ending -o to the stem of the verb.
![Page 8: Presentation #1 Present Tense of Regular Verbs](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062410/56815c34550346895dca19f5/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
hablo como vivo
The stem is usually formed by removing the -ar / -er/ or -ir fromthe infinitive form of the verb.
hablar comer vivir habl com viv
The appropriate verb ending is then attached to the stem.

If the speaker is talking to another person about that person the verb must have the second person singular ending attached to it. When talking to family and friends, this form is formed by adding either -as or -es to the stem of the verb.
![Page 32: Presentation #1 Present Tense of Regular Verbs](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062410/56815c34550346895dca19f5/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)

Probably the most common usage of the second person singular familiar and formal verb forms is its usage in questions which can be answered yes or no. You ask a question using the tú or usted form and that person answers your question using the yo form of the verb. Unlike English usage, you do not need to use helping verbs like “are” or “do” in your quesiton.
tú (familiar) usted (formal)

Third Person (he / she)
Third person refers to the person the speaker of the sentence is speaking about, either alone (“he / she”) or in a larger group (“they”).
![Page 58: Presentation #1 Present Tense of Regular Verbs](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062410/56815c34550346895dca19f5/html5/thumbnails/58.jpg)
The personal pronouns él and ella are often used to talk about a person, place or thing, but often these pronouns are omitted from a sentence.
![Page 59: Presentation #1 Present Tense of Regular Verbs](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062410/56815c34550346895dca19f5/html5/thumbnails/59.jpg)
Spanish does not have a pronoun equivalent to the English pronoun it. Instead it uses the masculine pronoun él with all masculine noun and ella with all feminine nouns.
![Page 60: Presentation #1 Present Tense of Regular Verbs](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062410/56815c34550346895dca19f5/html5/thumbnails/60.jpg)
The third person ending can be viewed as the default ending. If the subject is singular, and the subject is not yo or tú, then the third person ending is used.
![Page 61: Presentation #1 Present Tense of Regular Verbs](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062410/56815c34550346895dca19f5/html5/thumbnails/61.jpg)
Often the subject of the sentence in the third person is a noun representing an object or a person such as la silla or Rosa.
If the subject of the sentence is not yo, and is not tú, use 3rd person endings.
![Page 62: Presentation #1 Present Tense of Regular Verbs](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062410/56815c34550346895dca19f5/html5/thumbnails/62.jpg)
