PROJECT AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE THIRD SET OF LOCKS WITHIN THE EXPANSION OF THE PANAMA CANAL

Sacyr has led the consortium responsible for the design and construction of the new locks (GUPC): 3 chambers on each side of the Canal (Pacific and Atlantic) with 427 meters in length, 55 meters in width and 18.3 meters in depth each:

The project included a high level innovative solutions for the design and execution of the best solution, among others:

A special concrete mix design that, among other aspects, provided maximum resistance and zero permeability.

Unique design, manufacture, transfer and installation of the new gates (16 in total), of enormous dimensions and requiring a meticulous installation,

The new locks fill and empty more rapidly, 7% less water; the nine lateral basins employed for the reuse of water make it possible to save up to 60% of this precious commodity.

Constantly updating occupational hazard risk prevention measures, fully complying with the applicable regulations in this matter, as well as further increasing our demanding requirements.

Sacyr has developed a structure of responsibilities designed to definitively implant a model of responsible management and extend it across all levels of the organization, with the ultimate aim of making corporate responsibility a central element of all management decisions.

As the company´s most senior governing body, the Board of Directors is ultimately responsible for defining, promoting and overseeing the group´s Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.

There is also a Corporate Responsibility Working Group, comprising of one representative from each business area and one representative from each of the corporate departments most directly involved in ensuring the company´s responsible management.

The working group is coordinated by a dedicated Corporate Responsibility

Department, which reports directly to the Board.
