Initiative of Participatory Learning & Action (PLA) in HealthCommunity mobilization using Participatory Learning & Action (PLA) cycle approach to reduce maternal & neonatal mortality

This is a capacity building process in whichwomen’s group members invite non- groupmembers, adolescent girls, pregnant women,mothers, men, frontline service providers forlearning, planning, carrying out and evaluatingactivities in a participatory and sustainedbasis. Trained facilitators(Sahiyas) enable thiscommunity process.

WOMEN’S GROUPS PRACTICING PARTICIPATORY LEARNING AND ACTION

Evidence on PLA

Trial with Sahiyas in Jharkhand• Sahiya conducting PLA group meeting in her catchment area• Average participants in each meeting is around 30 women of reproductive age group• Each group meets once a month for PLA meetings• A manual has been developed to help Sahiya in implementing the program• Meetings were focused on improving maternal and new-born health

OUTCOME• 31% REDUCTION IN NMR• 36% REDUCTION IN MMR

From Sept 09 to Dec 12, prospective data was collected to assess the above differences between PLA and Non-PLA areas using cluster Randomised Control trial (cRCT).

• Objective: To develop an integratedmonitoring tool for MTC centres.

• Proposed Solution: It was proposedto have three mediums to monitorthe proceesing integrated through asingle database.

• Android Application for LadySupervisor which would work in theTablets provided by thedepartment.

• Dashboard for MTC Centre thatwould work on the existingcomputers in the MTC.
