Overview

• The goal is to help equip Rhode Island youth with

the skills needed to thrive in the workplace

• The PrepareRI high school internship program

provides work-based learning opportunities to

rising high school seniors across a variety of

industries.

• Students have the opportunity to work with Rhode

Island’s leading employers, earn wages, build

meaningful relationships, explore career avenues

and get a glimpse of what it means to

successfully navigate the current workforce.

• Interns complete rigorous, employer driven

work readiness training prior to the start of

their internship

• PrepareRI allows employers, schools, and

students to make meaningful connections

for student learning and beyond

Virtual Internship: “The Innovation Challenge”

(2) SOLUTIONS DRIVING BUSINESS PLAN

• PrepareRI interns, with the support of Mentors and

Industry Experts, will develop and implement a business

plan that articulates solutions to real-world challenges

• 2020 Winning Team developed a concept for a wearable

device to detect COVID-19 symptoms for the military

(4) PITCH IDEAS & SOLUTIONS

• PrepareRI interns will pitch their solutions during a state-

wide competition judged by industry leaders. Winning

teams will get bragging rights

(1) STUDENT LED CORPORATIONS

• PrepareRI Interns, with the support of Business

Coaches, will form student-led corporations.

• “Powered by [Company Name]”

• 20 Corporations will be formed

• Students can apply for a “C-Level” position

(3) TEST SOLUTIONS

• PrepareRI interns, with the support of Coaches,

Mentors and Industry Experts , will test their

theories to solve real-world challenges and iterate

based on feedback

• 2020 Interns used state of the art technology l ike

HoloLens

Virtual Internship Logistics

• Interns will earn $11.50 for 32 hours/week for 6 weeks

• Interns will be expected to work virtually from 9:30am –

4:30pm, M-F

• The PrepareRI Virtual Internship will employ up to 300 interns

• Interns will work virtually and SkillsRI will provide students

access to all virtual platforms (e.g. Zoom, Microsoft Teams,

Microsoft suite tools)

• SkillsRI will provide a computer and/or Wi-Fi internet to interns

who do not have access to one
