Pre-Ph.D. Theory Course Work Notification (June 2012 – Nov. 2012)
a) The Pre-Ph.D. Theory Course Work is compulsory to all provisionally registered
students and the duration is of one semester. The course work is of 12 credits and
the bifurcation of credits is as under:

b) The syllabi for Pre-Ph.D. Theory Courses shall is notified on university website
nmu.ac.in
Conduct of Pre-Ph.D. theory course work
a) The syllabus of the Pre-Ph.D. theory course no. 01 i.e. Research Methodology,
will have TWO versions one each for following faculties
i) Science, Engineering & Technology & Pharmacy.
ii) Arts & Fine Arts, Commerce & Management, Mental Moral Social
Sciences, education & Law.
b) A 05 day’s workshops will be arranged for Pre-Ph.D. theory course no. 01 i.e.
Research Methodology at Jalgaon, Dhule & Nandurbar districts. It is
mandatory for all the research students to attend these workshops. The venues &
schedule of the workshops is as mentioned in the following table.

These workshops will start early in the morning & will continue late in the
evening everyday to cover 48 hours of teaching/contact sessions for 4 credits.
c) It will be the responsibility of the concerned research supervisor to teach/conduct
Pre-Ph.D. theory course no. 02 i.e. Subject specific course & course no. 03 i.e.
Guide’s course based on research topic, to the research students working under
him & he will have to submit the certificate of completion to BCUD in the last
week of October 2012, through Principal of the concerned college.
d) The provisionally admitted Ph.D. students for Ph.D. degree (irrespective of their
place of research work) will have to complete Pre-Ph.D. theory course work
within one year.
Conduct & Evaluation of Pre-Ph.D. course work
a) The procedure for applying ON-LINE for examination of Pre-Ph.D. course
work is as below:
i) Candidate seeking admission to the Pre Ph.D. Test must apply online (i.e.
through a link available on the University website: www.nmu.ac.in ).
ii) Before proceeding to fill up online examination form the candidate must
draw a D.D. of Rs. 1000/- in favour of “The Registrar, North Maharashtra
University, Jalgaon.” from any nationalized or Jalgaon Janta Shakari Bank
payable at Jalgaon.
iii) After successful submission, the candidate should take print of online
examination form. Attach the necessary documents as follows:
a. Original D.D.
b. Provisional Ph.D. Registration Letter
c. Attendance Certificate of 5 days workshop on Paper – I:
Research Methodology
d. Non Creamy Layer valid up to 31st March 2013 (if
applicable)
and submit it in person or by post the examination form to The
Dy. Registrar, B.C.U.D., North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon.
iv) Important Dates:
Online Examination Form will be available from 1st Oct. 2012
to 15 Oct. 2012.
Last date for filling online examination form is 15 Oct. 2012.
Last date for submitting hard copy of examination form in the
University is 19 Oct. 2012.

b) The Examination of Pre-Ph.D. theory course no. 01 & 02 would be conducted in

Both papers will consist of only objective type questions and Examination will be

c) There will be no negative marking.
d) Pre-Ph.D. theory course no. 03 is Guide’s course based on research topic for its
examination the guide should ask the student to prepare and deliver TWO
seminars of one hour duration each using LCD and prepare the reports. The
candidate will have to write Review paper on his own research topic. The waitage
for each seminar will be 40 marks & 20 marks for review article.
e) The guide will have to submit Print copies of seminar report & review article
along with marks list to BCUD through the Principal of the college.
The evaluation of the seminar components will be based on following four heads:-

The candidates are required to obtain minimum marks in Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III
as given below:

Only such candidates who obtain the minimum required marks in each Paper, separately,
as mentioned above, will be considered for final preparation of result.
For Visually Handicapped (VH) candidates thirty minutes’ extra time shall be
provided separately for paper-I and Paper-II. They will also be provided the services of a
scribe who would be a graduate in a subject other than that of the candidate. Those
Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates who are not in a position to write in their own
hand-writing can also avail these services by making prior request (at least one week
before the date of Pre-Ph.D. theory examination) in writing to the Co-ordinator of the
examination centre. Extra time and facility of scribe would not be provided to other
Physically Handicapped candidates.
Grades for Pre-Ph.D. theory course work
a) Marks for each Pre-Ph.D. theory course work would be converted into grades
as shown in the following tables :
