Why does aging contort so many bodies in this way?

The reason is that many people, throughout their lives, never

extend the neck to its full range, and so the muscles shorten. Long hours of reading, sewing, typing, or stand-ing at a workbench take their toll. Eventually deposits of calcium salts in the joints complete the process of immobilization. Once this calcifi-cation takes place, nothing can be done to reverse it.

Fortunately, older persons can take action before it is too late. The best action is regular exercise that stretches the muscles and improves flexibility, with special considera-tions on the core muscles. This kind of response is relatively important for a number of factors that when taken for granted will only lead to serious health problems.

What Are Core Muscles?

Core muscles pertain to the muscles found at the obliques,

abdominals, lower back, and the glutes. These four areas of the body are the ones that usually frame the posture of a person. Hence, a good posture reflects the good condition of these muscle areas.

What people do not know is that core muscles are actually the “core” or the central part for all the strength that is needed to boost carry out different physical ac-tivities. This only means that if an individual’s core muscle is physically powerful, it will maintain equilib-rium on the body and will stabilize the system every time the person is working out and moving.

The Importance of Working Your Core Muscleby J Rickards (Article Source: http://physicalfitnessarticles.net)

Strengthening Core Muscles

The main responsibility of the core muscles is to provide

enough power to the body in order to enable it to cope up with the dynamic challenges of every physical activity that a person encounters.

For this reason, many health and fitness experts have real-ized that it is relatively important to strengthen the core muscles than with the other muscles in the body. Through some series of experiments and research, they have found out that having a stronger core can lessen a lot of health problems concerning posture.

For instance, a well-conditioned core muscle can project good posture. It can also improve the endurance of the back all the way through the day.

Why? Because muscles that are included in the group of core muscles are actually the ones that initiate the proper stabilization of the whole upper and lower torso.

Page 6: PRE LAUNCH ISSUE

So, for those who wish to know and under-stand why it is important strengthen the core muscles, here is a list of some of the benefits that you can use as references:

1. Strengthening core muscles will improve posture and prevent low back pain of the muscular origin.

This means that as you incorporate stretch-ing exercises in your routine, taking a par-ticular focus on the muscles of the upper and front part of the trunk, including the abdominal and trunk muscles, the activity has the tendency to strengthen the muscles of the back that extend to the spine.

2. It will help tone the muscles, thereby, avoiding further back injury

Exercising your core muscles will strengthen and tones your lower back muscles and but-tocks while stretching the hip flexors and the muscles on the front of the thighs.

Achieving this state will deter you from any serious lower back injury.

3. Improves physical performance

Exercising the core muscles with slow, static stretching is just as effective in relieving stiff-ness and enhances flexibility. Once the flex-ibility of a person has improved, it follows that he will be able to perform his physical activities at a better state.

4. They do not cause sore aching muscles

Static stretching for core muscles is best for the muscles and connective tissues. And because it employs slow stretches only, it will not cause any soreness, as do the quick, bouncing exercises that rely on jerky muscle contraction.

5. Lengthen muscles and avoid unbalanced footing as you get old

Core muscle exercises lengthen the muscles that have contracted as a result of pain. It also prevents pain from vigorous exercise if they are included at the end of each work-out.

Health and fitness experts highly recom-mend starting core work out immediately and repeating the routine at least 2 times a week. The process can be done after the workout or even during the activity, for about 10 to 20 minutes only.

Indeed, core muscles are absolutely impor-tant in determining the good posture of the body. Strengthening them can absolutely eliminate those nuisances of back pains.

Exercises For Healthy Life StyleBy Shan Silva

If you've ever done crunches to get six-pack abs or leg lifts to get thin thighs (and haven't we all?), you've fallen prey to the myth of spot

reduction.

This myth suggests that doing specific exercises for specific body parts will help you lose body fat there. But, the truth is, how and where we lose fat depends on, among other things, genetics, hormones and age. If you want to lose fat around the thighs or belly, you have to cre-ate a calorie deficit (through exercise and diet), lose body fat and see how your body responds. What you'll find is that, wherever you store excess fat is that last place you'll lose it. For women, that's often the hips, thighs and lower belly and for men it's often the belly and waist.

One reason this myth is still hanging around is because of how aggres-sively it's perpetuated by the infomercials, diets and magazines prom-ising thin thighs, flat abs and other extreme results for very little work.

Instead of wasting money on false promises and silly gadgets, try a healthier approach so that you can get your best body rather than an idealized body that always seems out of reach:

Regular cardio exercise in your Target Heart Rate Zone. Strength training for your entire body 1-3 non-consecutive days a week.

Myth 1: I can reduce fat around the abs, thighs, etc. with specific exercises?

Becoming physically more active therefore is a way of improving

every aspect of one's health and well-being. Although most of us take up ex-ercise hoping to improve one particu-lar aspect of our health, the great thing about it is that it is virtually impossible to improve one part without affect-ing the other aspects for the better.

Being physically fit in everyday terms means that you can go about your normal work without feeling fatigued. This is a very useful quality and should not be thought of as necessary only for sportsmen and manual laborers. Physical fitness has three compo-nents Strength, Stamina and Supple-ness. Strength implies having pow-erful muscles that can push and lift

heavy objects easily. For strength, one needs to do exercises that pit one's muscles against some resisting force - such as water in swimming, gravity in weight lifting, or a pedal in cycling.

Stamina or staying power is the ca-pacity to keep on doing an activity that uses up a lot of energy, for a long time without getting tired. Supple-ness is the ability to move one's body freely bending, twisting and turning. This facility can be developed by do-ing exercises that move the joints.

A physical exercise program can defi-nitely help you to trim your figure by toning up your muscles. But to be really successful in losing those ex-tra flabby kilos, you should combine

your effort with a change in diet that cuts down the extra calories you have been consuming. Exercises that im-prove the flexibility and strength of abdominal wall muscles will tighten those jelly--like "spare tyres" and im-prove posture. Exercises that depend on good coordination (for example aerobic dancing, or racquet games like squash and badminton) can make one more agile and graceful.

Most people find that, all these ben-efits, plus the very feeling of "being fit", combine to give them an increased sense of well-being and confidence - which in turn puts a "spring in their step and a sparkle in their eyes" that natu-rally improves personal appearance.

Carnival at the City

Mr and Miss Body Beautiful 2008

The first ever Mr and Miss Body Beautiful was held at the Big Top Arena, Carnival City at the

end of July 2008. The show was overall a huge success. However one downside to the event was the unfortunate low number of entries in the male categories. The guys that did enter though worked very hard to get their physics in peak condition for this event.

The surprise of the show was the new guy on the block, Daniel Bauer. Daniel was placed first in the Mr Body Classic section with Fanie Froneman and Martin Maritz following him consecutively.

The Mr Body Beautiful section was won by Lee-Wayne Erasmus followed by Rudi Pretorius and Joe van Vuuren. Lawrence van Wyk won the 35+ Mr Body Classic section, Jaco Botha and Vernon Victor was sec-ond and third.

Marius Stoltz won the Mr Body Fitness section.
