For many years, Formby High School has provided a range of diverse, high quality and inclusive extra curricular activities for students across the school. Such activities provide valuable opportunities for students to develop creativity, physical ability, resilience, teamwork and pride in their contribution to our school and community. As we continue to expand our enrichment offer, this core programme of FHSXtra activities will remain central to the day to day operations across the school. Full details can be found in our FHSXtra Directory, on our school website. However, we are delighted to launch a new and exciting range of opportunities to provide specialist coaching and training as part of our High Performance Academy programme. This collection of activities across PE/Sport and the Creative Arts will utilise the services of professional coaches and practitioners and allow us to further enhance the extra curricular menu for our students, and for the wider community. These activities will each have a termly enrolment fee, payable via our Parentpay online portal.

They will be well looked after by our Sports Leaders and will have a great experience of Formby High School before their transition into Year 7.

Sport Academy is a new PE and physical activity after school programme providing the very best in extra-curricular sport education!

Not only will we offer a wide range of recreational after-school clubs led by PE staff, but we will now also offer High Performance Academy sessions, led by professional and experienced sports coaches.

The High Performance Academy sessions will cost £25 for a 10 week programme and will be led by experienced, highly qualified coaches. Each session will be after school and last one hour immediately at the end of the school day. Students who sign up for these sessions will receive a branded t-shirt, bag and water bottle. Please find below more about the coaches and the programme they will run for their activity below.

Enrolment will be termly (autumn/spring/summer) via our Parentpay system. (Please note, in the absence of a coach due to sickness, the session will roll over and be added on at the end of the 10 week programme.)

Recreational clubs led by PE staff will be 45 minutes after school. Sometimes, these clubs may be cancelled if a facility is required for a fixture. If this is the case, a Parent Mail will be sent out.

Taking part in sport and physical activity should be an enjoyable experience as well as motivating and challenging. Our teachers and coaches will create a happy and relaxed teaching environment, that inspires the students to practise and enjoy learning new skills.

Music Academy is a new musical instrument and vocal initiative providing the very best in extra curricular music education. Not only do we offer a wide range of peripatetic instrument and vocal tuition, we also provide a range of ensembles and workshops. Learning a musical instrument and singing in groups is an enjoyable experience as well as motivating and challenging. Our teachers create a happy and relaxed teaching environment, that inspires the students to practise and enjoy learning their instrument. In order to ensure our musicians receive a well-rounded musical education, we encourage all participants to take part in ONE extra-curricular ensemble. This opportunity will support students’ holistic development, whilst ensuring they further develop valuable technical and aural skills. In addition to attending regular weekly rehearsals, our young musicians will be given opportunities to work with visiting professional musicians and composers, as well as experiencing some memorable performances and concerts in local and national venues. It is expected that students attend weekly, if a student does not attend five consecutive rehearsals, they will be taken off the register. We expect a high level of commitment, especially when preparing for an event. Students will not be able to join a performance rehearsal and performance if they have not attend the rehearsals prior to the event. There will be a 10 minute break between clubs. We will have a small tuck shop for those who wish to purchase drinks or snacks. Parents must complete a consent form. Formby High School would like to ensure the safety of all students’ instruments on site. Therefore, we strongly advise that all instrumentalists have their own music locker to store their instruments safely when not in use. The Music department can not take responsibility for instruments which sustain damage or go missing that are not locked away. If there is a staff absence, the club will still continue to run by either another member of staff or a Music Ambassador.
