NOTES FROM THE
OFFICE
Change in dismissal routines must be called to the office prior to 3:00 PM. Emergency Medical Forms need to be signed and returned to school as soon as possible. You should have also received a form regarding Photo Release and Internet usage. Please sign and send back to school as soon as possible. School Fees are also due. They are $30.00. Attendance: Please call if you know your child is going to be absent. If we do not hear from you, it is an automatic unexcused absence. When calling, a specific reason must be given or it will also be marked unexcused. If your child is late to school, an adult needs to walk in and sign them in. Reminder: We will ask for ID when signing out students early. We have a large accumulation of lost and found items. Please have your child check the pile.
School Updates
As we move into the second half of the year, expectations for behavior increase. Because of that, if a student breaks a school rule and is issued time in the RRCC room, they will spend their lunch and recess in there reflecting on their actions with a staff member. When a student is issued an “RRCC”, the parent will be notified. If a student has 3 infractions within the quarter, that will result in a before school detention.
In order to help communication and consistency, during the second half of this year, we are asking that teachers CIRCLE missing assignments in the Agenda Books so that parents are immediately aware if their child has a missing assignment. We are also asking parents to give the agenda book a quick signature to ensure accurate communication between the parent and the teacher.
This quarter, students will continue to earn Gold Tickets as part of our PBIS program. Each Friday from now until the end of the quarter, 5 students from 4th grade and 5 students from 5th grade will have their names drawn to be added to the Spring

LEADER OF THE
MONTH
In January, Etna Elementary students have been working hard to SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD. Teachers and staff members have been on the lookout for students who have been showing this characteristic. One student from each homeroom was invited to have lunch with Mr. Pratt and Mrs. Moore for showing the characteristics of a student with this habit. Not only did they have lunch, but they played games and enjoyed some ice cream sandwiches. Students were also presented with a bracelet that honors their accomplishment. Listed to the right, you will see all of the students who were the leaders of the month for December. Next month’s habit:
Etna Elementary now has it’s own Welcome Wagon! The students who are part of the Student of
Character Club will be mentoring
and being a Warrior Buddy to new students that come to Etna Elementary. Time is going to be
set aside for new students to hangout with their buddies to help
build some lasting friendships amongst a hard transition!
Kids are excited about Etna Elementary’s new Photography
Club! Applications are being sorted through and new cameras have been received (thanks Etna
PTO!) The students chosen for this class, under the direction of Ms.
Myers and Mrs. Smith, will be responsible for capturing the
AWESOMENESS for our yearbook!
Club Invention, an after school program, provides quality programming in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM concepts) through creative hands-on activities. This session’s focus is on “Physics in “Motion”.
Coding Club is going strong! We have over 40 members who arrive to school early to explore computer coding. Together, they have written 1000’s of lines of code! Victoria Harvey and Caleb Payne have themselves written close to 2000 lines of code!
Students, Jenna Share, Erica Crisler, Chloe Gray and Katelyn Bailey attempted to create the tallest tower using only shaving cream and index cards (lesson's focus: the center of gravity). Their tower won the competition, reaching 18 inches in height.
Miss Myers class enjoyed a Pizza Party for donating the most toys to the
Children’s Hospital Toy Drive in December!
A special thanks to Little Caesar’s for
donating!
Etna Elementary hosted a team of teachers and their Principal from Minster Schools in January. They came to visit some classrooms to see the innovative ways that Etna Elementary is implementing Blended Learning. Other schools are set to visit in the coming months as well. Our teachers spent time sharing ideas and suggestions as they begin to work towards a blended learning environment too.
Our Watch Dog Program is still going strong! We had our Donuts with Dads Program in January and had a great turnout, we even had some more dads sign up!
