Applying to 4 Year Colleges and Universities

What are they looking for?

What to expect

• Official Transcript• College Admission Test Scores (ACT or SAT)• Essay(s) • Recommendations – usually two teachers and one counselor • Interviews (highly selective schools)• Deadlines

• Take the ACT for free in March• Depending on where you are applying, you may not need to

take another entrance exam • Take the SAT if necessary• When do you need SAT II’s (subject tests)?• Have scores sent to 4 schools for free when you take college

admissions tests

Common Application• What is the Common App and SendEdu?• Essays (1-3)• Letters of recommendation

Recommendation Letters

• Required for Common App, scholarships• All recommendation requests due to teacher /

counselor 3 weeks before application deadline• Rec packet is available on Southridge website

• Scholarships• College Career Center• CIS• OSAC-application for scholarships for Oregon residents

• Prepare before Jan. 1st, submit after FAFSA is filed
