Portreath Primary School Newsleer Another wonderful week here at Portreath School. It is great to see that so many children here really care about the environment and want to make a difference. As a result of the work Class 5 are doing with Surfers Against Sewage on becoming a single use plastic free school, I had a meeting with Karen from our catering company Chartwells. She is enthusiastic about the work that we are doing and wants to support us. She is hoping to provide juice in larger bottles that Dawn and Lisa can distribute in cups rather than the current throw away cartons with straws. She is also looking into using a recyclable box for when they provide packed lunches rather than cling film for sandwiches and throw away pots for the vegetables. The milkshake cartons are proving trickier to replace but she is looking into it for us. Whilst here she also did a kitchen audit and was as impressed as ever with Dawn and Lisa. Clubs started this week. I really enjoyed my maths puzzle club in which we solved Sudoku puzzles. The choir sounded great and the environmental club did a great job of cleaning the beach. Table tennis was interesting-the equipment delivery was delayed so Mrs Allen improvised! I am pleased to say all the equipment arrived this morning ready for next week’s club. Thank-you to all the class 1 parents who were able to come to watch our assembly this morning. The children did a super job of telling us the story of ‘Jack in the Beanstalk’. I cannot wait to see their bean stalks grow up to their castles. Former pupils, Rebecca and Kaj, from #love Portreath popped in to see me this week about the work they are doing in the village. I have put some information about the group later in the newsletter. They are interested in the work that we are doing linked to the environment. They are keen to work with us and hopefully they can send some people in to lead workshops for the children. Mrs Pamplin Certificates Class 1: Isla-For being a happy and enthusiastic learner. Portreath Primary School Newsletter

Another wonderful week here at Portreath School. It is great to see that so many children here really

care about the environment and want to make a difference. As a result of the work Class 5 are doing

with Surfers Against Sewage on becoming a single use plastic free school, I had a meeting with Karen

from our catering company Chartwells. She is enthusiastic about the work that we are doing and

wants to support us. She is hoping to provide juice in larger bottles that Dawn and Lisa can distribute

in cups rather than the current throw away cartons with straws. She is also looking into using a

recyclable box for when they provide packed lunches rather than cling film for sandwiches and throw

away pots for the vegetables. The milkshake cartons are proving trickier to replace but she is looking

into it for us. Whilst here she also did a kitchen audit and was as impressed as ever with Dawn and

Lisa.

Clubs started this week. I really enjoyed my maths puzzle club in which we solved Sudoku puzzles.

The choir sounded great and the environmental club did a great job of cleaning the beach. Table

tennis was interesting-the equipment delivery was delayed so Mrs Allen improvised! I am pleased to

say all the equipment arrived this morning ready for next week’s club.

Thank-you to all the class 1 parents who were able to come to watch our assembly this morning. The

children did a super job of telling us the story of ‘Jack in the Beanstalk’. I cannot wait to see their bean

stalks grow up to their castles.

Former pupils, Rebecca and Kaj, from #love Portreath popped in to see me this week about the work

they are doing in the village. I have put some information about the group later in the newsletter. They

are interested in the work that we are doing linked to the environment. They are keen to work with us

and hopefully they can send some people in to lead workshops for the children. Mrs Pamplin

E-safety Poster Competition Reminder

Below are the rules that the children have came up with last week for e-safety. Each child is invited to

choose one of the rules and create an A4 or A3 poster for it. The closing date will be Tuesday 23rd

January. There will be one winner for each rule. We have received some super entries so far.

I will not share my personal information with people I do not know or use my real name when playing

online.

I will not post or send anything of someone else, e.g. photographs, without their permission.

I will not open anything from people I do not know.

I will not open or download any unknown pop ups or banners.

I will speak to an adult if I see or receive anything that upsets me.

3. Care for (and respect) everyone and everything.

I will not send anything I would not want sent to me.

I will look after all ICT equipment and report any mistreatment to an adult.

I will always return equipment in the state that I found it.

I will always ask an adult before using any ICT equipment.

Attendance

Just a reminder about the importance

of attendance. We encourage good

attendance because it makes such a

difference. However, we are not

suggesting that you send in your child

when they are sick! If you need

support or guidance with attendance

please let us know. If you would like

your child’s attendance figures at any

time, please see Mrs Jones. Our aim is to achieve a whole school attendance of 97%. We are currently

on 95.8%. Being here everyday and on time helps your child feel confident, up to date with learning, and

up to date with their circle of friends.

does not endorse these services.

Looking After the Environment

As a school we are currently trying to become more eco-friendly and are involved in the SAS

campaign of ‘Plastic Free Schools’. Class 5 are looking into ways to reduce our use of single

use plastic. A huge thank-you to Miss Rundle and Mrs Wickett for all their support with this.

Mrs Price’s environmental

after school club had their first

session this week and went

on a litter picking exercise.

We would love to receive any

photographs of children doing

beach cleans or litter picks in

their own time ready for a

display board.

We are proud to share with you that one of our parents, Lucie Quest, has

published a book to support parents of children with type 1 diabetes. To

purchase a copy of the book please email the address below:

#LovePortreath Keep It Clean, is a group of residents and businesses from the local community who have come

together to help improve the environment. Our aim is to protect the coastline and village from litter pollution,

reduce the use of plastic and help preserve ocean health and support wildlife.

We hope to hold events throughout the year such as litter picks,

scientific beach cleans and plastic free picnics. We look forward to

working with the school and will help to promote all the good work

that they do. If you would like to get involved or keep updated of

what's going on, please follow us on social media.

Recycling Batteries

If anyone would like

to recycle batteries

we have special boxes for

the children to take home

and collect them in. Please

pop into the office to get one.

In a few week’s time we will

have a special box to collect

all these batteries in and they

will be collected for recycling.
