My Most Memorable Trip Ever Last year, on the last two weeks of March, I went on a trip to the United States where I

was able to visit Miami Beach, Ultra Music Festival and Walt Disney World Orlando. What

made this trip memorable was that it was my first experience visiting a place out of my

country, I paid the Ultra Music Festival ticket on my own, and that it was my first long air

flight.

I started to plan my trip with my aunts and cousins five months before we left. It was a

really nice experience in all senses because it was the first time I will a place out of

Guatemala. Everything was cool, until I remembered I didn’t have the Visa. I requested it

and they gave it to me, believe me or not that day I felt a lucky person because it was a

fast process.

The main cause of my trip was that the Ultra Music Festival was going to be held In Miami,

so I started to save money and paid my ticket on my own. One of the facilities I’ve had

was that Ultra created a payment plan for the people that couldn´t pay the complete

money at a time, this plan consisted in giving five payments of $120 to receive your ticket

on January. This encouraged me a lot because I was thinking in all the djs I will see, all

the people I will get to know and also in the fact that it was an international rave were

people from all around the world will be coming.

The last thing that made this trip memorable was that it was my first long air flight and

when I finished packing my things at 10:00 P.M. the day before I left I just wasn’t able to

sleep. I started to worry all night, nerves invaded me and time passed so quickly that at

a moment it was time to wake up and go to the airport. My plane was going to be peeling

at 4:00 a.m. so I was at 3:00 A.M. there waiting for my plane to land. When it landed, I

was surprised because I’ve never been on an airplane of that size. While I was flying I

was so nervous and I also wasn’t able to sleep there too because of all the movement

but the amazing feeling I’ve had that day can’t be explained.

I will be always thanking to God and my uncles because without them I think I would

never have accomplished that dream. The dream of visiting the United States and the one

of attending an important and recognized rave like Ultra Music Festival is.

I think not all the people has this privilege and I’m pretty sure that if God gave me this

opportunity it was because he has something prepared for me. I also learned that rewards

for your attitude, effort and actions come to you when you are least expecting them. So

be patient, the best things for you are yet to come.

It Must be Real… By: Joselinne Sagastume

In Guatemala is very common to hear legends about many different characters as

they are “El Sombreron, La Llorona, La Tatuana, El Cadejo” and some others, this

are just urban legends because they are not proved.

El sombreron is best recognized because of it appearance, many people said he

might be a short man with black dress a thick and brilliant belt, that he may wear

a black, large hat and boots that make a lot of noise when he walks. He likes to

mount horses and braid their tails. When he cannot find horses, he braids dogs. He

also likes to court young ladies who have long hair and big eyes. When he likes one

in particular, he follows her, braids her hair, serenades to her with his silver guitar.

In the neighborhood of La Recolección lived a woman named Susana, a young lady,

with long hair and big, hazelnut eyes, she must be a pretty girl. One night when

there was a full moon, Susana was sitting in the balcony admiring the sky, suddenly

a short character with a big hat and a guitar approached her. He was impressed

by the woman’s beauty so he sang her a song and started to braid her hair but

at that moment her parents found out she was out and made her get inside the

house. Since that day she was not able to sleep anymore because this character

continued to appear in the house or sang to her from the street. She was not able

to eat either, because every time they served her food it was contaminated with

soil. Worried, the parents cut her hair and took it to the church so that the priest

would put holy water on it and would pray for her. A few days later the little man

stop bothering her.

In Antigua Guatemala most of the people may have heard him, but I think we should

not believe in something we haven’t seen yet. So if one day you hear a man singing

for you at night remember it must be El Sombreron.
