Industrial design - Abdoolally Ebrahim Houseware
High end designs Unique designs
A comparison between two types of knife blocks that stands out from its competitors. How do they differ from others?
Key insights- Keeps the inside clean- Sharpening function built in- Aesthetically modern design- Keeps the knife secure inside the block
Environment in which the knife block should be designed for.
From concept through to prototyping and testing, everything was carried out using the skills and techniques we have picked up from previous years and industrial experiences. The project is a good demonstration of us students’ ability to work independently and plan out design processes just as one would in a design company/agency environment.
As a member of the degree show committee, I designed 2 of the 5 development themes myself and helped finalise the chosen theme with other committee members.
Beside from designing the theme of the degree show book, I took majority of the photos used within the book and designed the layout as well.
More than 2000 copies were produced for the degree show. The project was funded by the University but from concept through to print and distribution, it was entirely done by the degree show team, made to a professional standard.
Day to day responsibility of creating engineering drawings and CAD models for fabrication.
Specialised jobs include designing one off specific enclosures for clients, including, NER resistors, braking resistorsand load banks.
One of the main projects I was assigned to was to design the AC100 unit, creatingschematic drawings, enclosure and wiring.
Other tasks include reverse engineer CAD model of the main resistor model, designing cost effective enclosures and custom made water cooled resistor.
As the company grew within the past 3 years and established a reputation amongst students and early 20 individuals, the company’s directors felt that they needed a new logo that represents what they do
and relate more to their target audience.
Beams Lighthouse is a UK based LED distribution company. The owner previously used plain white boxes for packaging. The new design relates back to the logo to match colour theme and image of the company whilst providing information about the product.
The bar had a new owner and the whole interior had been redecorated. The ownerwanted a new logo which stands out from other competitors. The owner also wanted
custom designed canvas for the VIP rooms. He wanted the canvas to relate to outer space, but the design was completely down to me.
I had the opportunity to work on the posters for a blockbuster movie called Divergent. The posters were designed mainly fordigital use but were made print ready.
AutonomousWith autonomous technology, the driver no longer need to have conventional automobile features. How
will the design of autonomous vehicles differ from coventional automobile design?
‘The DUAL DRIVE SYSTEM concept is based on Newton’s second law. If a spinning object is span, it will amplify the speed that the object is spinning to be the net RPM of both objects. (In this case, the object being the wheel)Dimension L3800 W1850 H1450

Latittude’s concept explore with the idea of freedom and virtual reality. Simulating the desireable virtual envionment for the user. The journey will be transformed into an en experience, as oppose to a chore.
With the increasing growth and interests of quadricycles in the automobile market, Coventry university offered a sponsored competition on designing a unique quadricycle for internal manufacture. This was one of the finalist entry.
Design an electric bike for Porsche Design Group. I wanted the designto communicate the Industrial design aspects of Porsche as oppose
to Porsche Automobile’s styling.

My first interaction with design was during my study at Bromsgrove School, which ultimately lead me to take on Industrial design at Loughborough University. I had always enjoyed art and science, and I felt that Industrial Design offered a diverse range of skills which enables me to pursuit a career in multiple discipline of design.
Having been an International student for such a long time has made me become more independent than the average University student. However, this has not affect my team working ability as being a boarding school student has provided me the invaluable opportunity to live and socialise with people from different countries, culture and personalities; I found that this has made me more confident around new people and clients.
