TOM TALKS TOM TALKSEvening All,

Today we welcome everyone connected to Swindon Supermarine FC for this rearranged Southern Premier League fixture. They are a newly promoted side having beaten Wimborne in the play off final last season. They seem to have assembled an experienced and capable squad and no doubt it will be another extremely difficult game for us.

The last two fixtures have seen a painful home defeat against Dorchester followed by an excellent away victory at Tiverton.

Anyone who saw both those games couldn’t question in any way the desire and commitment of the players. Against Dorchester we lacked a little bit of quality in the last third and another defensive lapse cost us a goal and in the end the game. The message to the players after the game was straightforward. I felt that if they could replicate the intensity they showed against Dorchester and add a little bit of quality in terms of our attacking play results would soon turn. Against Tiverton I felt that we did exactly that. We looked just as energetic and committed but we had a bit more quality in the attacking third despite it being a very difficult pitch. Defensively also we concentrated for the whole match and restricted Tiverton to no real chances. Overall I thought it was an immense effort. I was so pleased for the players and just as importantly for the supporters that travelled. They were really vocal and supportive throughout and I felt it really helped the players on the day. Certainly it was a really positive atmosphere. I am very grateful to those supporters for the time, cost and effort that they made.

I am very aware that positive results in isolation are not good enough. We need to get a positive run of results going. Hopefully, we can now do that. Our task tonight is not

made any easier by being without a whole host of players for one reason or another, mainly injuries. Against Tiverton we only had two senior outfield substitutes. From that squad of players Josh Leslie-Smith is unavailable tonight and in terms of the players that were absent I don’t think any of them will be returning. Therefore to say the squad is stretched is an understatement. However, the players are still more than capable of getting a positive result and once again I can promise everyone that if we don’t it won’t be for a lack of effort on their part.

People ask me if in recent weeks I have been reading the supporters’ online forum. The answer to that is I have. I like to use the criticism to motivate me going forward. I fully accept that everyone is entitled to their opinion. I must say however that a number of the comments are completely misinformed. Something I would say is that if anyone wants an explanation or discussion about anything connected to the Club then I am more than happy to have that discussion face to face. I will always try and give you a proper answer and an explanation unless it obviously betrays a confidence in terms of a player or players. As an example there has been a lot of

criticism regarding allowing Brennan Camp to go to Dorchester. The background to that was that I was offered by AFC Bournemouth the opportunity of having Brennan in our squad a few weeks ago. At the time I had all my defenders fit and available. I explained that it was unlikely I could give him any immediate game time but if there was any change in terms of form or injury then I would be very happy to accommodate him. Bournemouth were very happy to allow him to come to us on that basis. He can play at fullback but he is very much more comfortable in central defence. At the time he came to us I had both Jamie Whisken and Will Spetch fit and available. To be blunt there was no way I was going to leave them out to accommodate Brennan. He did play in a cup game at Wimborne. Dorchester then picked up an injury to one of their defenders so contacted Bournemouth about Brennan’s availability. Obviously as Dorchester were able to offer him immediate first team football because of their injury situation I wasn’t in a position to obstruct Brennan going there. Obviously it was sod’s law that he then came to Poole for Dorchester and played really well. With the benefit of hindsight I would have kept him with us because of the injury that very soon after Brennan leaving was sustained by Jamie Whisken. However, at the time, as I have explained above, there was no way of keeping him as backup when he was going to go to Dorchester and play straight away.

There have been some other comments about my attitude to young players and in particular players in our youth set up. All I would say is that in the squad at the moment we have three players that have come through our youth system in Jack Dickson, John Leslie-Smith and Ollie Balmer, albeit, Ollie is out on loan at the moment. If you look at Dorchester, Weymouth and Wimborne as comparable local clubs I don’t see that they have got anywhere near that number of players in their squad. In addition to that

a number of Dan Harrington’s U18’s side and have been in the squad this season for cup matches. They will continue to be monitored very closely. Young Ollie Lowes travelled with the first team to Tiverton and got on late in the game. If young players are good enough then I will pick them. The big difficulty is, whilst they are playing U18 football even when they immediately finish their U18 football, they are not normally ready at that stage to play regularly for the first team. It normally takes them a bit longer. Josh Leslie-Smith and Ollie Balmer have to a degree proved an exception to that. The issue is how you keep talented players after they have finished U18 football with your club and maintain their connection/involvement with your club until such time as they are ready to play first team football. That’s the difficulty that all clubs in our position struggle with. There is no easy answer. All that I would say is that we are doing our best to first of all attract good young players to the Club and secondly give them an opportunity of progressing to the first team if they are good enough. I think that’s all you can ask.

As I have said, if any of you, the supporters are unhappy about any issues or want to discuss any issues why not just come and talk to me. I think that has to be better than putting comments on the internet that, as I have said, are often wildly inaccurate. It’s not me just being precious about receiving criticism but if there is criticism it needs to be based on sound facts.

Anyway rant over and I hope you all enjoy the game tonight.

Tom

Evening All,Good to be back home after a massive win under our belt on the road on Saturday. We knew it would come and our fortunes would turn as long as we kept working hard at it and didn’t get too down hearted. It had too, the squad is too good for it to not!!

So after a tough four weeks this win needs to kick us on, for sure it would have lifted us as a squad and as a club, but now we need to go and back it up with another good result. We all seriously believe we have it in us to put a serious run together and if we do, you just don’t know what could be in store come the end of the season.I was delighted to see ‘Jamma’ (James) and ‘The Big Man’ (Luke) linking up for the goals sat, I genuinely believe they could form a frightening partnership together so fingers crossed it continues. Injury update on myself, I should be on my final week, they’ve said another 10 days but I’d like to think I can be back in the mix come Saturday. Anyway let’s get behind the boys tonight and back up Saturdays result!Up the Dolphins!

Tonight we entertain the players, officials and supporters of Swindon Supermarine Football Club and look forward to a keen contest. Our visitors have notched up some excellent results since ending a dire run of defeats during November, they have also strengthened their squad of late so whatever else may be uncertain tonight, one thing that we can be sure about is that Supermarine are in a false position in the league table at present. They come into tonight’s fixture fresh from a good result at the weekend beating Staines Town 3-0.A false position in the league is what we like to feel we are in. Obviously results and points dictate where you stand in that respect and of late our results have not been good enough that’s for sure but I do not accept that our performances have been as bad as some of our critics have made out. I won’t say any more than that, I believe time will show that our squad is well able to put a string of results together. If we don’t make the play offs it will not be for want of trying but as eggs are eggs we want to finish this season as strongly as we can to lay the foundations for a real push at promotion next year. That said I would not want any supporter to think that the sole approach to games is one viewed through rose coloured glasses, far from it. Issues within our play, performances individually and collectively are analysed, discussed and acted upon. We have a good bunch of talented, committed footballers at this club and we will together bring the good times back to the Black Gold.Certainly the performance at Tiverton on Saturday lent credibility to my confidence in the squad’s ability to “come good”. To say that it was normal service resumed

is an understatement. It was a good solid professional, competent performance very much akin to the game away at Merthyr a few weeks back. All the players put in a shift but I do want to make special mention of James Constable who led the line superbly throughout the game, scored a superb opening goal and then provided an exquisite assist to lay on the second for Luke Roberts.Talking about the players, we have of course had desperate luck of late on the injury front, a curse that has followed us for an age now. Steve Devlin, Jamie Whisken, Jordan Williams, Will Spetch, Adam Grange, and Jake Scrimshaw, the list goes on. These absences are not easy to cope with. Tonight we have the additional issue of being without Josh Leslie-Smith who has to take an examination as part of his degree course, something that he cannot rearrange!!On the plus side we welcome James Boote to the club on loan from AFCB until the end of the season. You are very welcome James and I hope you thoroughly enjoy your time with us.After tonight we have two more home games in quick succession, next Saturday we take on Walton Casuals here ko 3.00pm and then a week tonight ko 7.45 we welcome Harrow Borough in another league fixture.Enjoy the game and don’t forget the 50:50 tickets.

Evening All,Welcome to tonight’s game and to our visitors from Swindon. We wish you a safe journey home. It is good for Poole Town supporters that the home games are coming frequently now after a lean spell.

I would like to continue the theme I wrote about last week, drawing parallels between churches and what happens at an airport. When an airliner parks on the apron after landing, there is a carefully timed sequence of vehicles that pull up to the aircraft, performing three main functions before its next flight: • Refuelling, usually with a fuel truck pulling alongside the wing and running a hose into the fuel tanks; • Luggage, often with two ‘road-trains’ of vehicles taking off the incoming baggage and putting on the outgoing; • Catering, with trucks removing the debris from consumed in-flight meals and delivering new ones.

Once all these tasks are completed, the crew and passengers are able to fly to their next destination.

‘But what’s all this got to do with church and life?’, you may well be thinking. A friend of mine used to lead a church with the mission statement “bring them in, build them up, send them out”, and I’ve given thought lately to the ways in which people can be built up. People sometimes comment to me on how church feeds them in various ways - spiritual, emotional and mental as well as physical. The Bible itself and Bible-based ministry provide good ‘diet’ and ‘exercise’, equipping people to go out into the world. Perhaps your new year resolutions included something about physical diet and exercise. I wonder - have you considered church, and exploring the Bible? It’s a great and unique book.

Wishing you God’s best,

TEAM ACTIONThis week’s NLP ColumnThis week’s NLP has been written by Jon Couch.

FOOTBALL’S Coming Home at last for supporters in the south-west after Truro City announced this week they are to make a welcome return to Cornwall and play the remainder of their home games back at their Treyew Road home.

The White Tigers were forced out of their home ground back in August with supermarket giant Lidl planning to build a store on the site. But now those plans have been shelved, the National League South club have been given the green light to return home and resume as the only senior football club in Cornwall.

Truro had been playing their home games at Torquay United’s Plainmoor ground, meaning a gruelling 180-mile round trip for Tigers supporters.Naturally, that move badly hit fan attendance figures with the White Tigers averaging fewer than 200 fans per game because of the two-hour trip to south Devon.Their lowest recorded attendance was just 86 for their game against Hemel Hempstead Town in October, while just 52 ‘home supporters’ made the trip on New Year’s Day against their landlords with 2,760 ‘away’ fans making up an attendance figure of 2,812.

In a statement, the club said: “We are pleased to confirm that Truro City Football Club will be playing the remainder of this season’s home Vanarama National League South and Buildbase FA Trophy matches at Treyew Road.

“The move back has been necessitated for a number of reasons, including the late withdrawal of Helical from the retail development project.

“It understood that the ground’s owners, JIL, are still in talks with Lidl and there is still a strong possibility that the development will still go ahead sometime in the future.”

Now, at least with their own roof above their heads, Truro City can look to the future and a proposed move to the new 10,000-seater Stadium for Cornwall, which they would share with the Cornish Pirates rugby club.

Work on that development has yet to begin with Helical, the firm which bought Treyew Road, still in discussions about settling Truro City’s £2 million contribution towards the £12m project.

At the time of writing this, Truro were due to kick off their first next Vanarama National League South home match at their new permanent home against south-west rivals Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday January 19.

The club added: “We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible supporting the team at Treyew Road between now and the end of the season.”If the Stadium of Cornwall really is, as promised, to become a future hotbed of senior football in the south-west, then it’s important that White Tigers fans embrace the present.

SQUAD LIST WELCOMEIt was a tough but rewarding day for the Reserves last Saturday as we faced an experienced AFC Stoneham team. We dominated the first sixty minutes of the game, passing the ball really well and making at least 6 real goal scoring opportunities. Unfortunately we were unable to take any of these chances and were consequently caught out with a couple of defensive errors. Although we ended up losing the game, it is important that we focus on the control that we are now achieving in games and this, along with more match experience will lead to more positive results moving forward. We all dislike losing, but when we are looking to develop a young squad, sometimes one step back can end up by progressing three steps forward. Good luck to the first team today.Regards

CONNOR THOMPSON - MIDFIELDER /STRIKERConnor signed in January 2016 after he was released by National Conference North side Gloucester City at the end of December 2015. He began his career at Hartpury College before going to the USA to further his academic and football career with Baltimore Bohemians. He then returned to the UK in 2014 and signed for Gloucester City. During his time with Gloucester he had a short loan spell with Cirencester Town in the 2015/16 season. After the disappointment of not making the squad for the first two games at the start of last season he remained positive and returned to play a part in 43 of the 52 games during the season and a member of the squad that won promotion. Connor is predominately an attaching midfield player who can also player at right back and a more central attacking role. He has good technical skills and a player whose signature was highly sort after by a number of clubs after his release by Gloucester City.

MICHAEL HOPKINS - DEFENDERMichael signed for the club in February 2018 from North Leigh, having played against us ten days before, and can play either on the left side of the defence or in midfield. Before joining North Leigh he had spells at Didcot Town and Hungerford Town after playing at Reading Academy since a youngster. After signing he immediately brought additional competition and balance to the left-hand side of the squad. Michael is a talented footballer who will hopefully play a key role in our first season back in the Premier Division.

JAMIE EDGE - MIDFIELDERJamie joined the club on November 16th, 2018 from Gloucester City. He is a ball playing midfielder who joined Gloucester from Hereford FC in September 2017 after winning the Southern Premier Division title. He was once on the books of Arsenal, with manager Arsene Wenger personally oversaw the acquisition of Jamie from Cheltenham Town. After attending Hartpury College he’s subsequent career has also seen him play for Cirencester Town and Weston-super-Mare.

JEREL IFIL - DEFENDERJerel returned from a 4-year retirement when he signed for Marine in September 2018. He had a professional career that took him from Watford to Bristol Rovers before returning to Swindon to live and playing non-league football with Staines Town before retiring in 2014. Nicknamed the ‘Beast’ from his days at Swindon he is now enjoying his football once more and after making his debut for Supermarine in a 4-1 victory over Yate Town in September he and scored in the 4-2 win over Farnborough.

MATT WILLIAMS - DEFENDERMatt joined Marine in October 2018 from Gloucester City. He had two spells with Gloucester after initially joining them in 2014 he left for Evesham United before joining Hungerford Town in December 2017, where he stepped up two divisions to play National League South football. The Droitwich-born 24-year-old then returned to Gloucester City this season. Matt started his football career at fellow Gloucestershire side Cheltenham Town, where he was captain of the Under-18s team.

HENRY SPALDING - MIDFIELDER Henry returned to the club for his second spell in November 2018. He is the eldest son of Manager Lee Spalding and first signed for the club in the summer of 2016 from Bristol City where he had been since a junior player. He spent the last month of the 2015/16 season at Yate Town and made a number of substitute appearances before joining Marine at the start of the 2016/17 season. Henry left Marine in October 2016 for Cirencester Town where he has been a regular in their team and scored some excellently taken goals for them. He possesses a sweet left foot and is always looking for that crucial pass into the forwards and will now looking to establish a regular starting place in the Marine squad for the remainder of the season.

MAT LIDDIARD - MIDFIELDER / DEFENDERMat joined the club on January 9th 2019 from Gloucester City. He is a versatile player who can play in the centre of defence or in midfield. Mat was

a graduate of Hartpury College before signing for the first time at Gloucester City before moving to Cirencester Town in October 2015. He then joined Evesham United last season and scored 22 goals in all competitions before re-joining Gloucester City in in July 2018.STUART FLEETWOOD - STRIKERGloucester based Stuart joined Marine in June 2018 have played for Redditch United and Merthyr Town last season. He is a vastly experienced striker having joined the Cardiff City Youth setup as a 12-year-old before going on to play for another fourteen clubs although six of these clubs were loan moves. Last season at Merthyr he made eighteen appearances and scored three goals before joining Redditch towards the end of the season and scored five goals. Manager Lee Spalding believes he will not only prove a good acquisition as a striker but also a player that the young players in our squad will learn a lot from this season.

CONOR MCDONAGH - STRIKEROxfordshire based Conor joined the club in June 2018 have played for Kidlington and Banbury United last season. The 25-year-old is an experienced striker who started he’s career as a scholar with Oxford United before joining Oxford City in the summer of 2011, playing primarily for the Oxford City Nomads side in the Hellenic League. He then went on to sign for Witney Town at the start of the 2012/13 season before joining North Leigh four months later in December 2012, establishing himself at the higher level over the next eighteen months. He then moved away from Oxfordshire and spent the 2014/15 season with Ossett Albion, although he also played some games for Thame United that season. On his return to Oxfordshire he joined Didcot Town at the start of the 2015/16 season but moved up two levels to join National League South side Oxford City in September 2015 before signing for Banbury United exactly a year later in September 2016 and subsequently joining Kidllington in February 2018.

SQUAD LIST

He made his Marine debut in the friendly again Swindon Town and a couple of solid performances in the following friendlies persuaded former manager Dave Webb to sign him on Southern League forms. The last two seasons have seen him become a regular name in the starting eleven and chipped in with 12 goals in our promotion campaign last season. He can play either on the right side of midfield or further forward and likes nothing better than going forward to take on the opposing defence. He is a technically gifted player with plenty of pace and courage.

ZAK WESTLAKE - DEFENDERZak joined Swindon Supermarine in the summer of 2016 having spent the previous four seasons with fellow league side North Leigh where he was a regular goalscorer from central defender. Before joining North Leigh he was with Cirencester Academy and Cirencester Town where he made his debut in 2009. He is a good footballer who will often be seen playing the ball out of defence and supporting his teammates in midfield and was made club captain last season. He is dangerous at set pieces and scores the odd goal or two. Zak was on former manager Dave Webb’s radar for a couple of seasons prior to signing. He’s experience, grit and determination will always rub off on his teammates, especially the younger players in the squad.

MATT COUPE - DEFENDERMatt joined the club in the last week of October 2017 from Cirencester Town, having previously played for fellow league side Mangotsfield United last season. He is a vastly experienced central defender who began his career at Swindon Town. He then went on to play for Bath City, Chippenham Town, Gloucester City, as well as Forest Green Rovers, Aberystwyth and Clevedon Town. BRAD HOOPER - MIDFIELDERBrad joined Marine in the summer of 2016 having spent the previous few seasons with neighbours Cirencester Town where he was a regular in their side over the previous two seasons. He made over 100 appearances for the Centurions having started in the Cirencester Academy sides. He is another player who was on former manager Dave Webb’s radar over the previous two seasons before signing. He is a precocious talent, skilful on the ball with an eye for a pass as he likes to keep the ball on the floor. He made the central midfield role his own at Cirencester in 2015/16 and he did the same last season at Marine and also scored 15 goals in his first season at the Webbswood. Last season he nearly matched that total but fell one short with 14 goals from midfield, another excellent achievement and one he will be looking to repeat this season.

DAN WILLIAMSON - DEFENDERReading based Dan signed for Marine in June 2018 from Winchester City having joined City from Fleet Town with manager Craig Davis who made the same move in 2016. He is a strong and powerful player that likes nothing better than going forward and supporting the front players.

JOE SHEPHERD - MIDFIELDER / DEFENDER Joe signed for Marine in the summer of 2014 from the previous season’s champions Cirencester Town. He made nineteen starts and three substitute appearances in their Division One South & West championship-winning side in 2013/14, scoring four goals along the way. Joe is another young Swindon based player that former manager Dave Webb was monitoring for some time before he managed to sign him in July 2014. Joe is a box to box midfield player who can also play in defence; he has a great engine and a knack of scoring a vital goal or two along the way. A very versatile player who can play equally in several positions.

JOE SELMAN - MIDFIELDER / WINGER Joe joined Marine in July 2016 after being released by Bristol City at the end of the 2015/16 season.

The football club was founded in 1992 from the amalgamation of two established Hellenic League clubs - Swindon Athletic and Supermarine. After the merger Swindon Supermarine regularly finished in the top eight in the Hellenic Premier Division. In 1994/95 under managers Alan Dyton and Leo Colucci we entered the Wiltshire Premier Shield for the first time and went all the way to the final only to lose out to Trowbridge Town. That all changed in the 1996/97 season when we won our first trophies since the club’s merger when we defeated Devizes Town in the final of the Wiltshire Premier Shield and a successful season came to a close when we won the Hellenic Premier Division Challenge Cup with a win over Kintbury Rangers. Under the guidance of John Fisher and former Swindon Town stalwart Don Rogers in the 1997/98 season the team won their last two fixtures to secure our first Hellenic Premier Division Championship. The 2000/01 season the team won the Hellenic League Premier Division championship title and the retention of the Floodlight Cup. With the championship secured the application to join the Southern League (sponsored by Dr Martens) was accepted. To secure promotion a number of ground improvements were successfully undertaken to meet the league’s guidelines. Manager Alan Dyton informed the club of his decision to step down from his role because of work commitments so in July 2001 the club appointed Swindon Town’s community officer Clive Maguire as first team manager and equally pleasing was that Alan decided to assist Clive that season. Unfortunately, Clive resigned his managerial post at the end of October and after acting as caretaker manager for three games Alan also left the club. Clive’s resignation came after a disastrous start to the season with twelve defeats from thirteen games. The club then secured the services of the vastly experienced John Murphy. John had managed Cinderford Town, Witney Town, Trowbridge Town and Cheltenham Town and had achieved a number of successes in the Southern League. With John at the helm the team staged a tremendous come back in the league to ensure Southern League survival. The following 2002/03 season was unfortunately far worse than our first season in the Southern League and at the end of September 2002 John Murphy decided to relinquish his managerial position with the club rooted at the bottom of the league. The committee promoted the club’s Academy Director, Tom Jones, to the manager’s position but just a month later he resigned following eight defeats. A few days later former Cirencester manager Ray Baverstock accepted the manager’s position and the difficult task of saving the club from relegation. Ray began the daunting task of keeping the club in the Southern League which he duly obliged with a record seven wins from the last eight league. The 2003/04 season started so differently from our first two seasons in the Southern League. With Ray and his team at the helm the team started very well with 18 points and a mid-table position by the end of October 2003. So it was a complete shock to everyone at the club when Ray decided to step down at this time due to personal commitments. Although Ray returned briefly after reconsidering his position he was gone again within a couple of games. Tommy Saunders’ footballing exile ended with the former Chippenham Town boss being unveiled as the man to take over at Swindon Supermarine shortly afterwards. Unfortunately, Saunders’ reign only lasted a couple of months as he resigned. His Assistant, Mark Collier took over the job for the following game against Stourport Swifts and duly led the side to their first victory in seven games. Following that win Mark was offered the position as manager which he accepted and took us to safety with a 17th place finish in the Western Division and Southern League football for the 2004/05 season. For a fifth consecutive season we started the 2005/06 league campaign in the Southern League, with Mark Collier in his first full season as manager and Ian Howell as his assistant and the club had its most successful season to date with a fifth place finish and a place in the end of season play-off’s. Unfortunately, the side lost in the play-off’s to a strong Hemel Hempstead Town who went on to secure promotion to the Premier Division. The 2006/07 season was a successful one as the team scrapped into a play-off place and duly went through to win 2-0 in the play-off final win over Taunton Town to take us into the Southern League Premier Division for 2007/08 season. The team were also successful in winning the Wiltshire Premier Shield with a 2-1 victory over Swindon Town in the final. The following 2007/08 season, the first season in the Southern league Premier Division the side finished a very creditable 12th place and had something to build on. The 2008/09 season saw the team in the top six in January and they had an excellent FA Trophy run only losing in the last sixteen at Conference side Ebbsfleet. The cup meant the side having to play three games a week in the last month or so and dropped out of contention for a play-off place and finished the campaign in mid-table.

The 2009/10 season saw the team struggle for most of the campaign and it was only in March 2010 that they moved out of the relegation places with a run of good results and finished in fifteenth position, seven points away from relegation. During the summer of 2010 the Executive Committee released a statement indicating that the team was likely to be disbanded and be disbanded from the Southern League due to a lack of funding. They informed manager Mark Collier that they couldn’t give him the necessary assurances to finance another season in the Southern League and appealed for the friends and supporters of the club to help with a survival plan. To continue playing in the Southern League a new Executive Committee was urgently required, with new members and an increase in numbers who would commit to finding the required finance. The old Executive Committee and a number of enthusiastic supporters

met each week over a six week period then in the second week of June 2010 a new committee was formed to take the club into the new season and in the Southern League! A commitment to financing a playing budget was made by the new committee and Mark Collier accepted the position of continuing as club manager and began the task of recruiting a playing squad for the 2010/11 season and by August 2010 Collier was confident he had a squad of players that could compete with the remaining twenty-one clubs and maintain a place in the Premier Division come May 2011. The 2010/11 season saw the club maintain its Southern League Premier Division status with a very creditable 10th place finish, but besides the solid league performance the team had an exceptional FA Cup run when they went further than ever before as they reached the Second Round and only lost 1-0 away to NPower League 1 side Colchester United. A memorable day for all connected to SSFC and its supporters.A short while after this FA cup run the club accepted the resignation of Manager Mark Collier and Assistant Tom Jones in February 2011 due to personal reasons. Experienced players Gary Horgan and Matt Robinson took over in a caretaker role and rallied the players to perform extremely well and finish the season on a high with three consecutive wins. The 2011/12 season ended in disappointment for the whole club when the team were relegated from the Southern Premier Division to the Division One South & West after finishing in 22nd place, although only losing our position in the Premier Division for the 2012/13 season on goal difference. Shortly after the 2011/12 season ended and after long discussions with Gary and Matt the outcome was that a new manager would be appointed for the 2012/13 season in the South & West Division One. Within a mater of days Highworth Town manager Dave Webb was approached by the club committee with a view of taking over the managerial position at the Webb’s Wood Stadium. Dave Webb accepted the offer and along with his assistant at Highworth Lee Spalding, they were duly appointed Manager and Assistant Manager in May 2012 and quickly began the job of building a side ready and prepared for the tough season ahead in 2012/13 and beyond. In Dave Webb’s first two seasons he managed to lead them to two playoff finishes and two semi-final defeats defeat’s, both at the hands of Merthyr Town, the first on penalties. Last season was something of a non-event as the squad struggled with some devastating injuries that were the main reason for a fourteenth place finish and a much better season was expected in this 2015/16 season. The 2015/16 season saw a couple of wins in the FA Cup and FA Trophy that helped the clubs funds. The team finished the season in a playoff position and just as they did in 2012 and 2013 they unfortunately lost at the semi-final stage once more. On this occasion it came from a 2-1 defeat at Taunton Town but overall although a disappointing end the players did themselves proud and were unlucky to lose a game they dominated. The 2016/17 season saw a team shake up at the beginning with a number of experienced players being released and a group of youngsters set to make their mark on the team and the Southern League. The players worked hard all season and all but for a late slip we could have made the playoffs as the team finished in sixth place, just one position outside the playoffs. In the Cups we had a couple of games in each of the major competitions, the FA Cup and FA Trophy, but was successful in winning the Wiltshire Senior Cup, beating neighbours Highworth Town 2-1 in the final. In mid-January the following season, 2017/18, manager Dave Webb departed the club and his assistant, Lee Spalding, took on the role of Caretake Manager until the end of the season. Come the end of the season Lee and his team finished in fifth place and a playoff position with a Semi-Final at Evesham United. After drawing 1-1 after extra time Marine went through 5-4 on penalties and a playoff final at third placed Wimborne Town. In another tight game, which ended 0-0 after extra time, Marine won 4-3 on penalties and won promotion back to the Evo-Stik South Premier Division and what will be the South Division for season 2018/19.
