Current Position
There is strong anecdotal evidence that Practice Managers & Administrators feel their work is undervalued and that currently there is no way of having their work validated and recognised
Practice Managers were asking for on the job training
They didn’t want to sit in a class room learning what they already knew
They didn’t want to have to travel to study
They didn’t want it to be too expensive
Why a Knowledge & Skills Framework?
Specifically developed to up-skill Practice staff
Provides recognition for a non regulated workforce
Three levels – building up knowledge and expertise
Development plan uses content developed in conjunction with current scopes of practice determined by PMAANZ
Development plan in line with MECA Medical Receptionist/Administration staff performance tasks
Links into NZ College of General Practice Cornerstone® indicators

A Closer Look Finance – Revenue streams
Level 1 (Bronze) : • Capitation • Patient • ACC • Population based • Understand funding streams and source of practice income and be able to fully
discuss these Level 2 (Silver):
• Analysing Practice Register • Manage, review and refine funding streams • Provide examples of how this has been achieved and, provide a written account of
how this is important to the Financial Management of practice Level 3 (Gold): • Budgets and Cash Flow • Discuss importance of budgets & cash flow to Financial Management with Practice

Level one:
Candidate to have a basic understanding and engagement with Practice Management and Administration and to have worked in General Practice Environment for a minimum of 2,000 hours
