By applying a low-loss optical fiber to provide a large amount of time delay, high phase noise measurement sensitivity and large operation bandwidth are guaranteed. Meanwhile, digital phase demodulation is employed to avoid sophisticated feedback control and complex calibration required in conventional frequency- discriminator-based phase noise measurement scheme, which not only eliminates the phase noise measurement error introduced by the feedback loop but also suppresses the influence of the amplitude noise in the signal under test. In addition, a solution for the in-phase and quadrature mismatch problem in the digital phase demodulation is proposed. An experiment is performed. Accurate phase noise measurement is achieved in a large bandwidth from 2 to 35 GHz. With a 2-km single-mode fiber serving as the delay line, phase noise measurement sensitivity as low as -134 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz is achieved at a RF frequency of 10 GHz. The phase noise sensitivity can be further improved by applying a longer fiber. The proposed system is simple, accurate, and stable, and can be applied for analysis of high-frequency and ultralow phase noise microwave signal sources. I NTRODUCTION S INGLE-FREQUENCY microwave or millimeter-wave signal source is widely used in modern communications, radars and instrumentation systems. Typically, the performance of a microwave or millimeter-wave system is highly dependent on the quality of RF sources [1], [2]. Phase noise, which denotes the short-term stability of a RF source, is one of the most important specifications to evaluate the quality of the RF source [3]. Up to now, there are generally three methods developed to measure the phase noise of a signal source, i.e., direct spectrum method, phase-detector method, and frequency-discriminator method [4], [5]. Direct spectrum method is simple, but it cannot distinguish between phase noise and amplitude noise. Besides, the phase noise measurement sensitivity is usually limited by the spectrum analyzer [4]. In the phase-detector method, a high-quality reference source with phase noise remarkably lower than that of the measured signal is required, making it highly demanding when measuring a signal source with ultralow phase noise [5]. The frequency-discriminator method, in contrast, does not need a reference source. The signal under test (SUT) is first split into two branches, one of which is delayed by a certain time and then mixed with the signal in the other branch [6]. By introducing a large time delay between the two branches, the frequency-discriminator method can achieve much better phase noise measurement sensitivity compared with the previous two methods. The conventional microwave frequency discriminator is established based on an electrical delay line, which is short (or with large power loss) and narrowband. Optical fiber is an optimal replacement of the electrical delay line because a large time delay can be achieved with very low loss (0.2 dB/km) and broad bandwidth (>10 THz). Since the optical fiber delay line was applied for phase noise measurement in a frequency discriminator by E. Rubiola et al. [7], considerable efforts have been devoted to improving the performance of the photonics-based phase noise measurement systems [8]–[15]. These improvements are usually implemented by replacing certain electrical components in the frequency discriminator with their photonic counterparts. For instance, in [12], the elec- trical phase shifter and mixer are replaced by a photonic microwave phase shifter and mixer, respectively. Thanks to the broadband microwave photonic signal processing [16], the operational bandwidth of the phase noise measurement system is dramatically increased. Despite all these improvements, there are other factors restricting the performance of the frequency-discriminator- based phase noise measurement, especially the use of feedback loops and phase detectors. The feedback loop is established to ensure that the two inputs of the phase discriminator are orthogonal to each other by dynamically controlling an electrical or microwave photonic phase shifter. Abstract— A simple and high-sensitivity frequency–discriminator-based phase noise measurement system usingphotonic time delay and digital phase demodulation iscomprehensively investigated and experimentally demonstrated.By applying a low-loss optical fiber to provide a large amount oftime delay, high phase noise measurement sensitivity and largeoperation bandwidth are guaranteed. Meanwhile, digital phasedemodulation is employed to avoid sophisticated feedback controland complex calibration required in conventional frequency-discriminator-based phase noise measurement scheme, which notonly eliminates the phase noise measurement error introducedby the feedback loop but also suppresses the influence of theamplitude noise in the signal under test. In addition, a solutionfor the in-phase and quadrature mismatch problem in the digitalphase demodulation is proposed. An experiment is performed.Accurate phase noise measurement is achieved in a largebandwidth from 2 to 35 GHz. With a 2-km single-mode fiberserving as the delay line, phase noise measurement sensitivity aslow as −134 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz is achieved at a RF frequency of10 GHz. The phase noise sensitivity can be further improved byapplying a longer fiber. I. INTRODUCTION

S INGLE-FREQUENCY microwave or millimeter-wavesignal source is widely used in modern communications,

radars and instrumentation systems. Typically, the performanceof a microwave or millimeter-wave system is highly dependenton the quality of RF sources [1], [2]. Phase noise, whichdenotes the short-term stability of a RF source, is one of themost important specifications to evaluate the quality of the RFsource [3]. Simple and high sensitivity phase noise measure-ment is therefore of great importance for the optimal design

of high-performance microwave and millimeter-wave sources.Up to now, there are generally three methods developed tomeasure the phase noise of a signal source, i.e., direct spectrummethod, phase-detector method, and frequency-discriminatormethod [4], [5]. Direct spectrum method is simple, but itcannot distinguish between phase noise and amplitude noise.Besides, the phase noise measurement sensitivity is usuallylimited by the spectrum analyzer [4]. In the phase-detectormethod, a high-quality reference source with phase noiseremarkably lower than that of the measured signal is required,making it highly demanding when measuring a signal sourcewith ultralow phase noise [5]. The frequency-discriminatormethod, in contrast, does not need a reference source. Thesignal under test (SUT) is first split into two branches, oneof which is delayed by a certain time and then mixed withthe signal in the other branch [6]. By introducing a large timedelay between the two branches, the frequency-discriminatormethod can achieve much better phase noise measurementsensitivity compared with the previous two methods.

The conventional microwave frequency discriminator isestablished based on an electrical delay line, which is short(or with large power loss) and narrowband. Optical fiber is anoptimal replacement of the electrical delay line because a largetime delay can be achieved with very low loss (∼0.2 dB/km)and broad bandwidth (>10 THz). Since the optical fiberdelay line was applied for phase noise measurement in afrequency discriminator by E. Rubiola et al. [7], considerableefforts have been devoted to improving the performance of thephotonics-based phase noise measurement systems [8]–[15].These improvements are usually implemented by replacingcertain electrical components in the frequency discriminatorwith their photonic counterparts. For instance, in [12], the elec-trical phase shifter and mixer are replaced by a photonicmicrowave phase shifter and mixer, respectively. Thanks tothe broadband microwave photonic signal processing [16],the operational bandwidth of the phase noise measurementsystem is dramatically increased.

Despite all these improvements, there are other factorsrestricting the performance of the frequency-discriminator-based phase noise measurement, especially the use of feedbackloops and phase detectors. The feedback loop is establishedto ensure that the two inputs of the phase discriminatorare orthogonal to each other by dynamically controlling anelectrical or microwave photonic phase shifter. The use of thefeedback loop not only complicates the system configuration,

but also influences the phase noise to be measured, resultingin an inaccurate measurement. The phase detector usuallyconsists of a mixer and a low pass filter (LPF), which convertsthe phase difference between the two input signals into avoltage that can be measured. However, the conversion factoris related to the power and frequency of the inputs of themixer, which not only makes the calibration intricate but alsointroduces amplitude-noise-related measurement errors.

To overcome these problems, phase noise measure-ment systems using digital phase demodulation were pro-posed [17]–[20]. By using digital phase demodulation,the phase noise information can be extracted from digitalsamples of the in-phase and quadrature (I/Q) baseband signalsobtained from an I/Q mixer. The major advantage of usingdigital phase demodulation technology is that the feedbackloop and the phase shifter are avoided. However, the time delayis still provided by a short electrical delay line in [17] and [18],which significantly limits the phase noise measurement sen-sitivity and bandwidth. Besides, the conversion factor ofthe mixer needs to be calibrated in [18]. In order to mea-sure the conversion factor, two direct-current (dc) blocksare added in [18]. However, the dc block would inevitablyaffect the close-to-zero-frequency spectrum, which introducesphase noise measurement errors at low offset frequencies.Gheidi and Banai [18] also pointed out that the I/Q mismatchin the digital phase demodulation could lead to measurementerrors, but did not provide any solution. In [19], a phase noisemeasurement system based on photonic-assisted I/Q mixingwas reported, which provides a large operation bandwidthand a good sensitivity. However, an additional procedure ofreplacing a 90° hybrid by a 180° hybrid is required for eachmeasurement to eliminate the dc interferences introduced bythe photonic-assisted I/Q mixer, which dramatically compli-cates the measurement process. Recently, we have proposeda phase noise measurement system based on photonic timedelay and digital phase demodulation, which is free of dc inter-ferences [20]. However, only some preliminary experimentalobservations were reported, and the I/Q mismatch problem inthe digital phase demodulation exists. In addition, the photonictime delay is usually sensitive to the environmental change,but the measurement in [20] did not take into account thetime delay variation.

In this paper, we perform a comprehensive theoretical andexperimental study on the method proposed in [20], withan emphasis on the influence of the I/Q mismatch problemand the time delay variation problem. Solution to the I/Qmismatch problem is proposed by using a variable opticaldelay line (VODL) and digital compensation, and the timedelay variation due to the optical fiber delay line is reducedthrough a thermostat. This paper is organized as follows.In Section II, a brief introduction of the conventionalfrequency-discriminator-based phase noise measurementmethod and its problems originated from the phase detectorand the feedback loop is presented. In Section III, the basicprinciple of the proposed phase noise measurement systemis described and the effect of variation of time delayprovided by the long fiber is discussed. In Section IV, theI/Q mismatch problem is investigated and a method to

solve the I/Q mismatch problem is presented. In Section V,experimental investigation of the proposed system is presented.The measurement accuracy and operation bandwidth aretested by comparing the results with those obtained bya commercial signal analyzer or those provided by thedatasheet. The measurement sensitivity is also investigatedand compared to the system using an electrical delay line.In Section VI, we conclude this paper.

II. TYPICAL FREQUENCY DISCRIMINATOR SYSTEM

Fig. 1 shows the basic structure of a delay-line-basedfrequency discriminator system for phase noise measurement.Mathematically, the SUT can be expressed as

According to (8), the phase noise of the SUT can be figuredout through dividing the measured Sv ( fm) by a coefficientof 8 k2

ϕsin2(π fmτ ). Previously, this coefficient was acquiredby a calibration process using a signal source with knownphase noise or a determined phase-modulated or frequency-modulated signal source [8]. Theoretically, the amplitude andfrequency of the signal source used for calibration shouldbe the same as those of the SUT. As a result, calibration isrequired for each measurement, which would greatly compli-cate the phase noise measurement.

Another issue associated with the system in Fig. 1 is theuse of feedback loop, which plays an important role to trackand correct environment-variation-induced phase drift withinthe loop bandwidth. However, the phase noise to be measuredis essentially a kind of phase drift. Therefore, the use offeedback loop would inevitably suppress the phase noise ofthe SUT within the bandwidth of the feedback loop, and hencedegrade the measurement accuracy. To solve this problem,inverse correction should be applied, which also complicatesthe measurement.

As described above, the calibration required for each mea-surement and the feedback loop not only complicate themeasurement, but also degrade the measurement accuracy.Therefore, it is highly desired to develop a high-sensitivityphase noise measurement system without any feedback loopand complex calibration in each measurement. In this paper,a method applying photonic time delay and digital phasedemodulation is proposed, as demonstrated in the followingsections.

III. PRINCIPLE OF THE PROPOSED METHOD

Fig. 2 shows the schematic of the proposed phase noisemeasurement system using photonic time delay and digitalphase demodulation. Compared with the system in Fig. 1,the proposed system requires a 90° hybrid and two phase

detectors. Besides, a synchronized two-channel analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and a digital signal processing (DSP)unit are needed for data acquisition and processing, respec-tively. In Fig. 2, the delay line is realized by a length of opticalfiber. To do this, the SUT is modulated onto the intensity ofan optical carrier from a laser diode (LD) at a Mach–Zehndermodulator (MZM). This optical intensity modulated signal isdelayed by a span of fiber and then converted back to theelectrical domain at a photodetector (PD). Last, a VODL isadded after the fiber to deal with I/Q mismatch problem.

The electrical field of the optical carrier from the LD canbe written as

To improve the phase noise measurement accuracy,the phase term θ(t) ought to be calculated according to (19) bytaking the amplitude mismatch and phase mismatch betweenI (t) and Q(t) into account. The values of kA and dϕ aredifferent for SUT with different carrier frequencies or powers.So, the mismatches need to be measured for each measure-ment. In the proposed system, the calibration process is actuallyperformed by measuring the I/Q mismatch via adjusting theVODL and then compensating the mismatch by (19). Thecalibration and the measurement can be performed simultane-ously. On the one hand, compared to the time delay providedby the long fiber, the time delay introduced by the VODL isnegligible. As a result, the value of τ can still be regarded as aconstant, indicating that the calibration and the measurementcan be realized by the same setup. On the other hand, thechange of the phase will be very slow when the VODL isadjusted with a very slow speed, so the frequency of thephase jitter introduced by it can be very small. As a result,the VODL only affects the phase noise measurement result

at a very low offset frequency (typically less than 10 Hz),which is much lower than the cutoff frequency (typically∼1 kHz) of the feedback loop used in the conventionalfrequency discriminators.

V. EXPERIMENTS AND ANALYSES

A. Experimental Setup

To evaluate the performance of the proposed system,an experiment is carried out based on the setup in Fig. 2.The LD (TeraXion Inc.) operates at a wavelength of 1550 nm.A 50-GHz MZM (FUJITSU FTM7938EZ) is applied toperform optical intensity modulation. A 2-km single-modefiber (SMF) is used to provide the time delay. After the SMF,a VODL (General Photonics Inc., VDL-001-15-600-SM-FC/APC) is applied to measure amplitude mismatch and phasemismatch, which can provide a delay range from 0 to 600 ps.A PD (FINISAR U2T) with a bandwidth of 59 GHz and aresponsivity of 0.6 A/W is used to perform optical-to-electricalconversion. The operation bandwidth of the power dividers(Power Divider 1 and Power Divider 2, KRYTAR 6100400)are both from 1 to 40 GHz. The two LNAs (LNA1 andLNA2, B&Z Technologies) can operate over a frequency rangefrom 0.1 to 40 GHz with a gain of 30 dB. The operationfrequency of the 90° hybrid (KRYTAR 3017360K) is from1.7 to 36 GHz. Its amplitude and phase response is measuredby a VNA, which shows that the amplitude imbalance wasless than 1.7 dB and the phase mismatch was less than 12°over the full frequency range. The two mixers (Mixer1 andMixer2, Marki M4-0140) and two LPFs (LPF1 and LPF2) areselected with the same parameters, respectively. The RF/LOfrequency range of the mixers are both from 1 to 40 GHz. Thepassband of the LPFs is from 0 to 1 MHz. A four-channel24-bit ADC (National Instruments PXI-4462) is used tosample and record the data. The sampling rate was set to204.8 kHz, which means the phase noise measurement offsetfrequency is below 102.4 kHz. According to the noise analysisin [17], the 24-bit high accuracy ADC helps to maintain alow phase noise floor in a large range of input power level.A photograph of the implemented setup is shown in Fig. 5.

B. Phase Noise Measurement Sensitivity

The phase noise measurement sensitivity is characterizedby the phase noise floor. The method for measuring the phasenoise floor is as follows. The optical fiber is replaced by an

optical attenuator having the same attenuation as the fiberinduced power loss. The inherent phase noise of the system iscalculated according to (21), which is regarded as the phasenoise floor [18].

The phase noise floor of the proposed system is measuredand shown in Fig. 6. As can be seen, the phase noise floorat 10-GHz RF frequency is −105 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz and−134 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz, respectively. This phase noisemeasurement sensitivity is greatly improved compared withthe system using an electrical delay line [18], where thephase noise floor at 4.9 GHz is −85 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz and−113 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz, respectively, as indicated in Fig. 6.

To further improve the phase noise measurement sensitivity,one method is to increase the time delay τ by applying a longerfiber [8]. When a 6-km SMF is applied in the system, the mea-sured phase noise floor is shown in Fig. 7. Compared with thesystem using a 2-km SMF, the measurement sensitivity whenusing a 6-km SMF is improved to be −111 dBc/Hz at 1 kHzand −141 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz, respectively.

C. Verification of Measurement Accuracy

To check the measurement accuracy of the proposed system,the phase noise of a 10-GHz signal generated by AnritsuMP1763C is tested.

The amplitude mismatch kA and phase mismatch dϕ

between I/Q channels are measured by changing the lengthof VODL with a constant speed. The digitalized tracks ofI (t,τ) and Q(t,τ) are shown in Fig. 8. According to (28),the values of amplitude mismatch kA and phase mismatch dϕ

can be calculated as: kA = 1.11, dϕ = −7.45°.The phase noise measurement results are shown in Fig. 9.

The result measured by a commercial signal analyzer (R & SFSV40) is also plotted in Fig. 9 as a comparison. In addition,the phase noise floor of the proposed system and R & SFSV40 [22] are also included in Fig. 9. It can be seen that thereis a good agreement between the two measurement results,especially for offset frequencies from 1 to 100 kHz.

For offset frequencies between 0.1 and 1 kHz, there is slightdeviation between the two curves. This is mainly resulted fromthe factor H ( fm) = 1/[8sin2(π fmτ )], which has an infinitevalue at offset frequencies of fmN given by

To clearly explain this effect, Fig. 10 shows the calculatedresponse of H ( fm) of the proposed system. At zero offset fre-quency, there is an infinite response that causes the deviationat low offset frequencies in Fig. 9. This is a common problemsuffered by all frequency-discriminator-based systems.

To further verify the measurement accuracy as well as thegood sensitivity of the proposed system, the phase noise ofa 10-GHz signal generated from a commercial microwaveanalog signal generator (Keysight E8257D) is measured,as shown in Fig. 11, where the phase noise measured by acommercial signal analyzer (R&S FSV40) is also included.Besides, the phase noise at specific offset frequencies obtainedfrom the datasheet of the signal generator [23] is indicatedin Fig. 11. The phase noise curves in [23] are measured byKeysight E5500 Series, which use phase-detector method forphase noise measurement [24]. The phase noise floor of theproposed system and R&S FSV40 are also shown in Fig. 11.In this situation, precise phase noise measurement is achievedby the proposed system. In contrast, inaccurate measurement

by the commercial signal analyzer arises because the signalsource has phase noise lower than the measurement sensitivityof the signal analyzer.

D. Operation Bandwidth

In addition to the higher sensitivity, another advantage of theproposed system is the large operation bandwidth. To verifythis property, the phase noise of single-frequency signals ofsome specific frequencies generated by Keysight E8257D istested.

Fig. 12 shows the measured phase noise at 10-kHz offsetfrequency when the frequency of SUT changes from 2 to35 GHz. As a comparison, the values of phase noise providedby the datasheet of E8257D [23] are also plotted in Fig. 12.It can be seen clearly that the differences between the mea-sured results and the values provided by [23] are less than3 dB. This not only confirms the accuracy of the proposedsystem again, but also proves that the proposed system canoperate at a frequency range from 2 to 35 GHz, which isultimately determined by the 90° hybrid.

However, even though photonic time delay has been usedin the proposed system to replace the electrical delay line,the operation bandwidth is still limited by other electricalcomponents, including the power dividers, the 90° hybrid,

the LNAs and the mixers. Zhang et al. [19] use a photonic-assisted I/Q mixer to avoid the bandwidth limitation from theelectrical mixers. However, the lower limit of the measurementfrequency range is determined by the edge slope of thetunable optical bandpass filter used in [19]. As a result, thesystem in [19] is unavailable to measure sources with carrierfrequency less than 5 GHz. In addition, the phenomenon offiber dispersion-induced RF fading is also a factor limiting theoperation bandwidth [25], [26]. According to [26], the fiberdispersion-induced RF fading can be overcome by using adual-electrode MZM to generate an optical carrier with singlesideband modulation.

E. Performance Comparison

Table I lists the performance comparison between the pro-posed phase noise measurement system and the previouslyreported systems. Compared with the previously reportedsystems, the proposed system has several advantages. First,systems in [9]–[12] and [14] suffer from high complexitydue to the use of feedback loops and phase detectors, whilethe proposed system is significantly simplified thanks to theuse of digital phase demodulation. Second, compared withthe systems in [17]–[20], which also apply digital phasedemodulation, the proposed system solves the I/Q mismatchproblem. Third, the systems in [9]–[12], [14], and [18] needcalibration before each measurement for different SUTs, whilethe calibration process in the proposed system used to solvethe I/Q mismatch problem can be performed simultaneouslywith the phase noise measurement process, which helps toreduce the complexity of measurement. Finally, different fromthe systems in [17] and [18], where electrical cables are usedas the delay line, the proposed system uses broadband andlow-loss optical fiber to provide a large amount of time delay,which helps to achieve a high measurement sensitivity and abroad bandwidth.

VI. CONCLUSION

We have comprehensively investigated and experimentallydemonstrated a phase noise measurement method using pho-tonic time delay and digital phase demodulation. The systemadopts a low-loss optical fiber to provide a large amount of

time delay and a 90° hybrid to realize digital phase demodu-lation. Compared to the conventional frequency-discriminator-based phase noise measurement system, the system is freefrom complex calibration, phase shifter, and feedback loop forphase control, which simplifies both the system configurationand operation complexity. More important, the I/Q mismatchproblem in digital phase demodulation technology is inves-tigated and solved. Thanks to the use of optical fiber delayline, a good phase noise measurement sensitivity and a largeoperation bandwidth are achieved. The phase noise floor is aslow as −105 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz and −134 dBc/Hz at 10 kHzat a RF frequency of 10 GHz, which can be further improvedby applying a longer fiber. A large operation bandwidth in therange from 2 to 35 GHz is also realized.

The performance of the proposed system in terms of offsetfrequency range, sensitivity, and operation bandwidth can befurther improved. In the proposed system, the offset frequencyrange is mainly determined by the sampling rate of theADC, so it can be broadened by adopting an ADC withhigher sampling rate. The sensitivity of the proposed systemcan be further increased by a longer fiber. However, whenthe fiber length is increased, the reliable offset frequencyrange for phase noise measurement will be reduced becausethe frequency spacing between the adjacent infinite pointsof H ( fm) is also reduced. This problem can be solved byapplying a longer fiber for a close to carrier measurementand a shorter fiber for a far from carrier measurement [9].Another approach to improve the phase noise measurementsensitivity is to apply two-channel cross correlation [13]. Theoperation bandwidth of the proposed system is eventuallydetermined by the electrical 90° hybrid. An effective wayto break this limitation is to employ photonic-assisted I/Qmixers, which are able to realize I/Q mixing without electrical90° hybrid [27], [28].

Fangzheng Zhang (S’10–M’13) received the B.S.degree from the Huazhong University of Scienceand Technology, Wuhan, China, in 2008, and thePh.D. degree from the Beijing University of Postsand Telecommunications, Beijing, China, in 2013.

He is currently an Associate Professor with theCollege of Electronic and Information Engineering,Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.His current research interests include microwavephotonics, coherent optical communications, and all-optical signal processing.

Shilong Pan (S’06–M’09–SM’13) received the B.S.and Ph.D. degrees in electronics engineering fromTsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2004 and2008, respectively.

From 2008 to 2010, he was a “Vision 2010”Post-Doctoral Research Fellow with the MicrowavePhotonics Research Laboratory, University ofOttawa, Ottawa, ON, Canada. In 2010, he joined theCollege of Electronic and Information Engineering,Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics,Nanjing, China, where he is currently a Full Profes-

sor and an Executive Director with the Key Laboratory of Radar Imagingand Microwave Photonics, the Ministry of Education. He has authored orco-authored over 340 research papers, including over 180 papers in peer-reviewed journals and 160 papers in conference proceedings. His cur-rent research interests include microwave photonics, optical generation andprocessing of microwave signals, analog photonic links, photonic microwavemeasurement, and integrated microwave photonics.

Dr. Pan was a recipient of an OSA Outstanding Reviewer Award in 2015.He was a Top Reviewer of the Journal of Lightwave Technology in 2016.He is currently a Topical Editor of the Chinese Optics Letters. He is aChair of numerous international conferences and workshops, including theTPC Chair of the International Conference on Optical Communications andNetworks in 2015, the TPC Co-Chair of the IEEE International TopicalMeeting on Microwave Photonics in 2017, the TPC Chair of the High-Speed and Broadband Wireless Technologies Subcommittee of the IEEERadio Wireless Symposium in 2013, 2014, and 2016, the TPC Chair ofthe Optical Fiber Sensors and Microwave Photonics Subcommittee of theOptoElectronics and Communication Conference in 2015, and a Chair of theMicrowave Photonics for Broadband Measurement Workshop of the IEEEMTT-S International Microwave Symposium in 2015.
