Dear Preparatory School parents and guardians I was recently listening to Dr. Myles Munroe speaking about being organised and the power of planning. He states that if we do not have a purpose (reason), it is difficult to make any plans. Plans can only work when there is a purpose. Therefore, our purpose will guide us to make the appropriate plans. Do you have plans for your children? Do these plans line up with God’s purpose for your children? When we all start living “on purpose” we are more organised and mindful of those close to us. To this end, I would like to address the matter of too many pupils staying late after school without proper supervision. What is the purpose of leaving a grade 1 child at school until 17h15? Please be reminded that we do not have an Aftercare Centre but merely a waiting class until 14h00. I am asking for your co-operation concerning this matter. Sports practice ends at 15h30, unless matches are played. Here too we have too many pupils without supervision. Please make proper transport arrangements so as to prevent your child staying at school until after 17h00. We had an amazing response to the fundraising drive for our new educational playground. The raffle sheets have brought in an astounding R44,430.00. Although there are still sheets outstanding, I would like to thank all our Preparatory School parents for the great effort of raising the money. We still need to plant grass and make a few changes to the playground before the project is complete. Enjoy reading this Newsletter. It is filled with wonderful news. Dear Preparatory School parents and guardians

I was recently listening to Dr.

Greetings,

EARTH DAY 05 JUNE 2012

As an Eco School, PEPPS celebrates Earth Day with a purpose. This year we would like the children to be creative when recycling items. What did you do with your yoghurt cup or your milk bottle? Throw them away? Oh no! There are so many things that you could have made from them. It is up to our children to show us how to recycle everyday items we use. On 5 June, children will bring their recycled items to school to put on display and each child who brings an item will receive a cool badge. Keep a look out for posters around the school that will give you ideas on how to recycle items. ECO COMMITTEE

Chess is still very alive in the second term at PEPPS.Patrick Kapila continues to make us proud. He won 4 out of 5 matches at the Limpopo Qualifying Tournament during the holiday. For that he received a silver medal and certificate. Other learners that won some matches were: Wajahat Agha, Kopano Them, Dylan Catto, Agustin Ferrer Rojas, Onthatile Mulutsi, Mmatlala Ramabopa. Well done to our u/13 chess league team. They played against Louis Trichardt Primary School on the 11th of April. We beat them with 1 points. Each learner played two matches. The following number of matches were won: Patrick Kapila - 2; Selealo Rakgole - 1; Mapudi Phasha - won 1 and drew 1; Matsobane Matlaila - 2. At the next Qualifying Chess Tournament at Northern Academy, the following learners did very well and won their matches: Patrick Kapila and Mapudi Phasha both won 4 out of 5 matches.

SOCCER AND NETBALL MATCHES: TERM 2

Mpho Moretsele was selected as one of the twelve hockey umpires to officiate at the SA u/21 Men’s Inter-Provincial tournament which was held in Port Elizabeth. Every team that goes to the tournament wants to play well enough qualify for the play-offs and eventually the final. The same is true for umpires. Mpho had an excellent tournament and was rewarded with umpiring the final between Free State and Northerns in front of roughly 7,000 P.E. spectators.

Mpho Moretsele has also been selected to represent the Limpopo Men’s team who will participate in the South African Country Districts tournament from the 9th - 15th of July in Grahamstown.

WELL DONE MR MORETSELE!

This year five of our netball teams went to Camp Discovery from the 23rd to the 25th of March. The teams we took with were the u/9s, u/10s, u/11s, u/12s and the u/13s. Five coaches accompanied their teams.Shortly thereafter our girls were introduced to the Tuks coaches and the head coach that was running the clinic. Our children were then told what training they would be receiving in the three days they were there. They then started with training. The coaches would first explain and demonstrate what they wanted the children to do and then the children were given the opportunity to do it. Our coaches would then take their teams and assist them in the best way we could with the activities demonstrated. The Tuks coaches walked around and assisted our children. There was a total of 8 other schools participating, with a total of 444 girls. The program for the three days consisted of free time, interesting activities but with the majority of time spent training. Coaches started off with basic skills, thereafter they taught the girls catching and passing; space awareness; landing and quick turning; centre passing; staying in specific zones during matches to avoid bundling; goal circle play; shooting action and drills; throw in base line; side lines; defending and interception, and positioning and defending lines. Both our teachers and girls learnt a lot from this training. Our girls then played against a variety of schools while our coaches umpired their own team’s matches. During these matches the Tuks coaches observed the teams playing in order to report back on their strengths and weaknesses. We all learnt a lot from the netball clinics as we found new and interesting ways in which we could train our girls and also our strengths and weaknesses in matches. Report written by Mrs D. Jacobs

During the Easter Holiday our three hockey teams went to Pretoria for a hockey coaching clinic. There they received professional coaching by SA, Northern Gauteng and Tshwane University of Technology first and second team players. As this was a high schools clinic, our teams played the likes of Ben Vorster Hoërskool, Hoërskool Menlo-Park, etc. It was a good experience for our teams to be exposed to a high standard of coaching and playing. Dawit Negussie and Ipeleng Kekana were identified as the most promising goal keepers and Tshepang Ngoasheng as a promising field player. Report written by Mr M. Moretsele

Dramatology Theatre Productions visited our school on 14 March 2012 and performed their “Let's Bookie Show” to our Foundation Phase children. With the simplest of props they introduced three well known authors and performed excerpts from four stories, much to the children's delight! The group related well to their audience, it was interactive and at exactly the right level to keep the children enthralled. Our library has been inundated with requests for these books and some children have bought the stories from the local book shops. We have used the show as a springboard for language activities in the classroom. We look forward to their next production.

Teachers Having Fun At Work!

Research has shown that children doing regular physical activity have: improved emotional well-being, improved health, improved mental health, enhanced social skills, increased capacity for learning and productivity and a more positive school environment! A healthy body and mind go hand in hand. There is no such thing as a mind/body split!

FANSA Medical visited our school on the 25th of April and educated the children with the HEALTHY BODY=HEALTHY MIND programme. The programme focused on educating our children on the importance of healthy foods, exercise and hygiene. We took a special look at nutrition, in particular, “Brain Foods” and discovered amazing facts about our body!

International Children's Day is widely celebrated on 1 June.

Children's Day had its origin in the World Conference for the

Wellbeing of Children in Geneva in 1925.

The 1 June date has a Chinese-USA origin - and nothing to do

with Communism. In 1925, the Chinese consul-general in San

Francisco gathered a number of Chinese orphans to celebrate

the Dragon Boat Festival. This, of course, coincided with the

conference mentioned above. June 1 somehow died out in the

USA, only to be revived a couple of years ago. However, each

country chose its own day to commemorate it.
