New Industrial Relationship for Formula Student Racing Team

The Formula Student Racing team - a Faculty of Engineering backed project which involves PEMC

Group members - has forged a new technical relationship with GKN Automotive. Dr Surojit Sen, an

active member of the team, is delighted to share a write-up of the new relationship in the IMechE

Formula Student newsletter, and invites readers of the newsletter to follow the activities of the

racing team. We wish them luck!

Best Paper Award at ICEMS 2019

PEMC Group members were awarded a "Best Paper Award" at the 22nd International Conference on

Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS) 2019. "Vibration Analysis of Permanent-Magnet-Assisted

Synchronous Reluctance Machines" was authored by Jiaqi Li, Hanafy Mahmoud, Michele Degano and

Chris Gerada. Well done!

Update About New PEMC Building

The ground has been broken and work is well underway on the new, purpose built Power

Electronics and Machines Centre on Jubilee Campus. The Centre is due to open in June 2020 and will

be home to the PEMC research group.

There's much to be done but this is a very exciting time for PEMC, and we'll keep you posted how it's

going.

Seminars and Events

PEMC Seminar Series

The PEMC Group holds regular seminars, providing researchers, students and visitors with an

opportunity to share their work.

The first Seminar of 2019-2020 took place on 9th October, with presentations about the group and

group activities from Dr Michele Degano and Dr Liliana de Lillo. This first session was an opportunity

for the group to gather again after a busy summer of conferences and travel, and a chance to

welcome new PhD students, researchers and visitors.

The new Seminar Series will again offer group members the chance to present their research to the

colleagues, and we're delighted to say that invited, guest speakers will also give presentations. PEMC

has benefited from the experience of many researchers, past and present, and we're delighted that

some are returning to speak to current group members about their career paths and latest research.

Watch this space for more news!

ELITS Dissemination Event, 23rd July 2019

PEMC Group members were delighted to host a Dissemination Event on 23rd July for the Efficient

Lightweight Integrated Traction Solution (ELITS) project, an Innovate-funded project the PEMC are

working on with colleagues from Cummins. Professor Chris Gerada, Dr Adam Walker, Dr Gaurang

Vakil, and Dr David Gerada were pleased the Cummins team, led by Krzystof Paciura and Chidi

Onyenanu, could join them at the event on one of the hottest days of the year!

The event showcased the achievements of the project so far and was well attended by project

partners, and was a great opportunity to collaborate and share ideas.

Group Social Activities

PEMC Friday Cuppa and Cake

A new informal get-together was launched in September - a Friday afternoon Cuppa and Cake event!

Every two weeks, PEMC members get together to relax, chat, have a tea or coffee, and enjoy a slice

of cake. These social events are a great way for a group as big as PEMC to meet new students and

visitors, and share news and ideas.
