Peace Notes Prince of Peace Anglican Church
April 2017
Good News!
Our building project finally has its building permit! It took several months and over $700, but now we have permission to build. We had to get approval from Hopewell Township who used a strict company from Pittsburgh to do much of the review. They required three re-writes of our architectural drawings.
Isn’t it great to know that the other building we’re working on doesn’t require a permit? It is totally free! And the Architect has already drawn up the plans when He first made us. That building is you and me! 1 Corinthians 3:9 says, we “are God’s field, God’s building” It goes on to say: “each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
With Jesus as our foundation, let us build our lives into a reflection of Christ. Let us build with hope, as 2 Corinthians 5:1 reminds us, “Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands”.
Let us build with confidence, knowing what Paul writes to the Ephesians (2:19-22) that “You are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.” As we watch our physical church building change and grow, let us give energy, prayer and effort to our spiritual building, our lives, as they change and grow in the likeness of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Phase 1 Building Project Update
We incurred a 7-week delay in our progress due to numerous code reviews by Code SYS.
Finally! Mid-March we received plan approval and building permits have been obtained and are posted in the Coffee Nook area.
Some unexpected structural were identified. They are in the process of being
addressed. The cost for these issues is approximately $1,500.
Lighting has been upgraded in the basement under construction area.
Due to the delays beyond our control we are not able to provide an estimated
completion date. Please continue to pray and be patient during this temporary
inconvenience for a permanent improvement. Know that
our building team is working very steadily.
If anyone is willing to volunteer to clean as needed, please
let Susan Hovanec know and she will put you on a list and
coordinate when there is a need.
Passover Seder
April 11th will be the date this year for our Passover Seder. As usual that is the Tuesday
of Holy Week. We start at 6:00 pm. This is as much an annual celebration as the other
events of Holy Week and Easter. So I will again encourage all of us to make the effort
to come. In addition, I would make a special request for those who have not been to a
Seder to plan to come; and for all of us to try to bring a friend who has never been.
Remember that it is suitable for children. Indeed, the Seder is especially for the
instruction of children about the wonderful deliverance our God has accomplished for
us.
The sign-up sheet will be out very soon. The seating will be limited,
so please sign up as soon as possible. Don’t let the cost of food put
you off; we ask for donations, but they are not required. I know you
will be blessed if you make the effort to come.

March Youth Update
Hello Prince of Peace Family!
This month the youth group had fun celebrating the Feast
of Purim, with the help of Pastor Philip. This Jewish feast
celebrates God’s deliverance of the Jewish people which is
recounted by the Book of Esther. We enjoyed some
delicious pastries called “Haman’s Ears” and acted out
together the story told in Esther. Pastor Philip provided us with a script for this which
had some adaptations that made it a lot of fun to act out!
Youth group continues to meet each week on Sunday from 6-8 pm for games, snacks,
fellowship, Bible study, and prayer – all youth in 6th through 12th grades are welcome!
We are continuing our overview of the Bible, and are currently studying the Old
Testament Prophets. If you’d like more information about youth group, I or Pastor John
would be happy to talk with you and answer any questions you might have. Please
continue to pray that our youth will grow in their knowledge and love of the Lord!
In Christ,
Jason Waller
Youth Minister Transition
Adam Tapparo was born in Bremerton, Washington, but lived
around the Pittsburgh area for most of his life. He has a musical
background and a love of the arts, especially musicals and
theatre. He is a graduate of Beaver Area High School and
Waynesburg University with a degree in public relations, also
studied pre-law and advertising. He formerly worked with the
youth at the Church of the Ascension. He is now attending
Trinity School for Ministry and hopes to be ordained in three years.
Adam will be working with the youth at Prince of Peace starting in March alongside
Jason & JoTherese as they transition back to California. He will formally start as our
new Youth Minister on May 1 and looks forward to getting to know all of you better.
Please welcome Adam to the Prince of Peace family when you see him!

Missions in Focus Weekend
Our spring Missions in Focus Weekend on March 18 and 19
theme was: THE LORD IS CALLING; AM I LISTENING?
This is drawn from Matthew 9:37 & 38: “Jesus said to his
disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;
therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into
his harvest.’”
We are excited that Al Martelli, Katherine Rosier, June & Brownie Statler, Jim Fisher,
John Goodman, Joyce Wingett & Bob Dwyer and Paula Cosnek shared with us how God
called and equipped them to work in his harvest. For some it meant going to another
place, but for most, it was a call to serve God right where they are. They are an example
for the rest of us as to how we can answer the Lord’s call to work in his fields that are
“… white already to harvest.” (John 4:35)
We would love to hear from more of our members about how the Lord
has called and equipped them; and how they are working in his harvest
fields. So, if you would be willing to give a testimony about that, please
talk to Pastor John or me about giving a “mission moment” in an
upcoming service or Peace Notes.
Pastor Philip
Ponder: My Purpose
God has created me to do him some definite service …
I have my mission … he has not created me for naught.
I shall do good; I shall do his work …
I will trust him, whatever I am,
I can never be thrown away.
If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve him,
In perplexity, my perplexity may serve him.
If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve him.
He does nothing in vain…
He knows what he is about.

Side by Side – Pastor John & Blanche Heidengren
When evening came, after the sun had set, they began bringing to
Him all who were ill and those who were demon-possessed. And the
whole city had gathered at the door. And He healed many who were
ill with various diseases, and cast out many demons… In the early
morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went
away to a secluded place, and was praying there. (Mark 1:32-38)
You think YOU’RE busy! Look at Jesus’ day above. “After the sun had set”, when many
of us are relaxing in our “easy chairs” in front of the TV, Jesus has the whole city lined
up at His door for healing and ministry! And it probably took half the night to bring
God’s power of healing and blessing to everyone.
THEN, when many of us would have “slept in” the next morning, citing an unusually
long and hard evening and night of ministry, Jesus gets up “while it was still dark” to
spend time with His Heavenly Father. It was here, in this “quiet time”, that Jesus was
filled up and focused for another day of ministry “to the towns nearby” (vs. 38). It was
in this important first part of the day, that Jesus got perspective to make wise choices
and good decisions throughout the rest of the day.
Do YOU have a “secluded place” to go and pray to get perspective for each day? If not,
maybe that’s why you have some of the troubles and challenges you’re facing. TAKE
time to get alone and get with God. Try it for a week and see if you’re life doesn’t
experience some changes for the better!
- Pastor John
We are here once again to my favorite month of the year where we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, on Easter Day! We take the time first to go through the Passion of our Lord from Palm Sunday through Good Friday...remembering all the painful suffering that our Messiah went through by bearing our sin upon his shoulders. We celebrate the triumphal entry into Jerusalem, and partake of the Last Supper, and hear the hammering of the nails into Jesus' tender flesh on Good Friday...we remember and ponder that He did this all for US. We let it all sink into not only our minds, but into the depths of our hearts. >>>
-8-
Then we observe the disciples and followers of Christ waiting on Holy Saturday for God to take the next step in His salvation plan...which He so beautifully does on Easter morn. "Up from the grave He arose," we sing happily! "Christ the Lord is Risen today, Alleluia!" "Celebrate, Jesus, celebrate!" "He's Alive, He's alive and I'm forgiven, Heaven's gates are open wide!" I encourage you to think of your favorite Easter hymn and sing some of it now in celebration of that glorious Day!
Yes, Easter reminds us that Jesus took the sting out of death! Easter changes everything and so we want to live it out throughout the year...we are Easter people! May we make the most of this precious day, giving thanks that we are free to celebrate it in all its splendor.
See you in church on Easter Day as we worship together with our Prince of Peace family our Lord's victory over death and His gift of eternal life to all who believe!

When We Can’t Find Easter
Easter is the most joyous Christian holy day … except when it’s not. What do we do when our mood isn’t what we think it “should” be? The kids are sugared up, we’re juggling family gatherings (and maybe conflicts), our everyday challenges remain and festive hymns – however rousing – fail to lift our spirits. We wonder, “What’s wrong with me,
that I can’t seem to find Easter?” Been there, done that. And it’s okay. You’re okay.
Jesus’ resurrection doesn’t scoop us out of our troubles, but the death-defying Christ walks through them beside us, on our own Emmaus road (Luke 24). We aren’t alone. When we can’t find Easter, Easter somehow finds us – if not on this designated Sunday, perhaps two days from now, or next week or mid-May. Watch for it; keep your heart open. Christ is risen indeed – and you shall be too. – Heidi Mann
Easter Lifts the Fog
A friend stood one day where he could view the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. At first it was completely shrouded in early morning fog. But as the sun rose, the fog lifted between the upright piers of the bridge, leaving the land anchors still unseen.
Is it not so with life? We see only what is between the great piers called birth and death. But Easter lifts the fog from both. Easter is the time when we see more completely the anchorages that sustain life. - George Mecklenberg

+ Christian Symbols +
Agnus Dei - This image is known as the Agnus Dei, Latin for “Lamb of
God.” When pictured standing and with a banner, it represents the risen
Christ, victorious over death. John the Baptist, seeing Jesus approach,
famously declared, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of
the world!” (John 1:29, NIV). In Revelation, too, Jesus is portrayed as a
lamb who was slain but now reigns triumphant.
