‘Today is for Tomorrow’
SAFE RESPECTFUL LEARNERS
Term 2 Week 10
Wednesday 28 June 2017
Principal’s Report
Families,
The term has flown by and I am finding it hard to believe I have
been a part of the Wallacia PS community for 2 terms! Not a day
has passed where I have not been so deeply grateful for the
opportunity to work with your wonderful children, our dedicated
staff and the supportive parents and friends within the broader
school community.
PBL - The SRC selected Owen Sweeney’s Positive Behaviour for
Learning symbol as the winner of our PBL mascot competition.
Congratulations to Owen for this wonderful achievement. The
olive wreath represents education and learning. The hand shake
represents everyone working together in partnership. Together
our school represents innovation, opportunity and success.
As part of our PBL initiative we will be holding our Special
Student Acknowledgement session this Friday between recess
and lunch. This is our chance to celebrate and acknowledge all
the students who have worked really hard with their effort and
behaviour to achieve their best this term. All students who
received our Principal Awards are invited. We are also inviting all
students who received a Bronze, Silver or Gold badge this term.
We will be sharing some treats and having a special activity
together.
REPORTS –Students will be given their reports before the home
bell on Thursday. Please remember that FRIDAY is the last day
of school for Term 2. Students are required to attend school on
Friday. Students return to school for Term 3 on Tuesday 18th of
July. Mrs Tritton and I will be completing some training this first
day. Mr Rush will be covering 5-6T.
Premier’s Reading Challenge – we have received a few enquiries about how students log in to
the NSW Premier's Reading Challenge website. Please go to the PRC homepage and click on the
Logon on the menu to login.
It will take you to the NSW Department of Education portal login page; students log in directly to
the PRC website using their Department of Education (DoE) username and password. These are
the same details a student would use to access the Student Portal and the computer network at
school.
NAIDOC Day – We held our special NAIDOC Day 2 weeks ago to celebrate and acknowledge our
Aboriginal history, heritage, culture and identity. We welcomed Mulgoa PS who participated in our
NAIDOC Day events. All our kids and teachers experienced a range of activities and shared their
experiences. This was a great opportunity to build our relationships and share our knowledge.
NAPLAN – The Department of Education (DoE) is testing NAPLAN as an online process. Our
year 3 and 5 students will be participating in a trial online NAPLAN test for a session in week 7,
Term 3. The students won’t actually receive any data or records from this process. It is purely a
trial to see how our infrastructure, computers, internet and timetabling work under online
conditions.
Dentist Visit – The school will host a mobile Dentist Service visit next term for students on the 7-8th of September. A note will come home early in Term 3 explaining all the details for your child to be involved. Students will attend in groups of 2-3 for assessment and follow up treatment if required. Warm regards Trev Mason
School Driving Subsidy – Term 2 Update During 2017, Transport for NSW is in the process of changing the School Driving Subsidy system, through which parents receive a payment when transporting students to school over a certain distance. Parents should visit the website at www.transportnsw.info/school-
students in order to apply or update their details online.
Because of the ongoing changes to the system, parents should
be aware that there may be delays in parent payments for
Semester 1 2017.
Ten Pin Bowling Our students from K-6 have just finished our final week of the Sporting Schools Ten Pin Bowling Program. They have enjoyed weekly sessions with experienced Ten Pin Bowling instructors. It has been excellent to see students have a go at developing their skills while having fun with their peers.
Cooking with Kindergarten Last week Kindergarten were very excited to finally pick a large zucchini from their veggie patch. After caring from the zucchini as a tiny seedling the children were amazed to watch it grow into a vegetable. After picking the zucchini the students used it as the focus of their maths lesson, measuring it and weighing it. Kindergarten also researched the world record length for a zucchini. Our zucchini measured a length of 43cm and weighed 1.39kg. It was just 12cm short of the recorded world record length. On Friday 23rd June, Kindergarten took their zucchini into the kitchen and enjoyed a cooking lesson using zucchini as the main ingredient. The students made zucchini boats and zucchini and potato chips. Every single student enjoyed the feast, giving everything a try. Afterwards many parents asked for the recipes as students boasted that zucchini was their new favourite vegetable. A huge thank you to the wonderful parents who assisted Kindergarten with their cooking lesson, Mrs Sweeney, Mrs Frost and Mr and Mrs Keough. Your assistance is truly appreciated. I wonder what will be next on the menu for Kindergarten! Miss Talia Carroll Kindergarten Teacher
Wallacia Public School is very proud of Jessica Preston! Jessica came 20th at Sydney West Regional Cross Country. Great result Jess!
SRC CAKE STALL
On Friday 21st of July the SRC will be holding a cake stall.

and family last name.
