Thanks to enthusiastic service, the Association was able to provide the much needed car and enabled Miss Saxton to reach more families during the Spanish flu outbreak, which lasted about fifteen months. Difficulties with the car increased and repairs were handled in many different ways, each with its own particular headache attached. But the Angels didnt give up. Families needed help, and our Angels rose to the challenge. Today, we deal with COVID-19 impacting how we interact with each other. Just like in 1918, Angels know our Attic Angel Staff will work hard around the clock to provide care and comfort to residents. Our Angels mission has not stopped as well. With our first donation, given by Angels Norm and Barbara Berven, we were able to provide a $25 gift card to all staff the first week in April. With this spark continued more giving. Our Angels are determined to do what they can during this invisible pandemic. An Employee Appreciation appeal was established receiving 125 donations, including a generous donation from a previous Haven resident s family. The appeal donations totaled over $10,100, which ended up providing each staff member a $25 KwikTrip gift card the first week in May, drawings for $100 Metcalfe Market gift cards, and more free meals in June. Donations of additional free meals were received from a Health Center residents family, Food Fight, Blue Plate Catering, and gift bags from the staff of CG Schmidt, Inc. A number of staff expressed appreciation; the support from Angels, families and residents has been energizing! The meals and gift cards offer the security of knowing that the organization is here for staff, and they mean something to the organization. One staff member said they have never worked in a facility that does so much for staff! Other caring souls have donated to help cover the unprecedented needs during this time. We have received gifts to purchase additional iPads to provide much needed virtual communication between families and their loved ones. Other gifts have been given to refurbish the activity cart supplies, purchase a karaoke machine, essential oils, and additional carts for food service and the front desk. One gift was given just because they received free masks, so they paid it forward. Present day activities would amaze the two sisters who set out to furnish clothes for the needy twins in 1889. Todays hard reality is that we know COVID-19 isnt going away anytime soon, and costs continue to grow. Attic Angel Place has established a way you can help to close the gap in essential services and needs due to COVID-19. Thank you to all who have given from your hearts and your offers to help and continue to lead us with ongoing support in so many ways. 1 ATTIC ANGEL COMMUNITY

Paying it Forward By Sheila Shultz, Development Officer

In 1918, an urgent appeal came from the Attic Angels for some patriotic citizen to furnish a car for the Miss Mary Saxton, a visiting nurse, who worked night and day in the Italian district during the “flu” epidemic. But the Angels didn’t give up. Families needed help, and our Angels rose to the challenge.

Today, we deal with COVID-19 impacting how we interact with each other. Just like in 1918, Angels know our Attic Angel Staff will work hard around the clock to provide care and comfort to residents. Our Angels’ mission has not stopped as well. With our first donation, given by Angels Norm and Barbara Berven, we were able to provide a $25 gift card to all staff the first week in April. With this spark continued more giving. Our Angels are determined to do what they can during this invisible pandemic. An Employee Appreciation appeal was established receiving 125 donations, including a generous donation from a previous Haven resident’s family.

Today’s hard reality is that we know COVID-19 isn’t going away anytime soon, and costs continue to grow. Attic Angel Place has established a way you can help to close the gap in essential services and needs due to COVID-19. Thank you to all who have given from your hearts and your offers to help and continue to lead us with ongoing support in so many ways.

Hearing Aid Insurance By Veronica Heide, Audiologist

There is so much to keep track of these days, and hearing aids are an investment to keep track of. Make sure that your hearing aids are currently insured for loss and damage. This coverage typically comes for a period of one, two, or three years and then is over.

If the loss and damage coverage has expired on your hearing aids (your audiologist can provide this information), you may insure your hearing aids by

1) Adding a rider to your renter’s insurance to cover accidental loss and damage (like you would insure a piece of jewelry)

OR

2) Through Ear Service Corporation https://earserv.com/

To find out more about your options, contact your audiologist or the place where you purchased the hearing aids and ask whether or not you need this coverage and when the loss and damage coverage expires. Finally, share this information with the person that handles your financial and insurance affairs so that if something happens, they are aware of the options as well.

Practical Approach During a Pandemic- How Aegis Therapies Can Help You By Andrea Guggenbuehl, Director of Rehab

Over the past few months, I do not know if there is a person who I have met who hasn't had some level of increased stress. Our lives have been affected in ways we wouldn't have imagined causing increased anxiety and feelings of depression. Did you know physical therapy and occupational therapy can help with these symptoms? Anxiety is the body's natural response to stress, and it is a different experience for

everyone. Your Aegis therapists can help identify triggers of stress/anxiety and work with you on practical ways to manage these situations. Common signs of depression include increased difficulty sleeping, focusing on activities or conversations, feeling more forgetful, or experiencing changes in appetite. Many seniors are having these symptoms right now - you are not alone! And we are here to help support you. We are in this together!

AAP Board Highlights By Judy Winkel, Board Secretary During the virtual meeting, President Mary Ann Drescher shared a PowerPoint presentation to help orient the Board with information on the financial aspects of our Corporations and what the Boards and staff can expect from each other. Attic Angel Community is a large business which must be continually looking to the future. An Attic Angel Advancement Plan concerning COVID will be implemented in five phases as possible. It follows the basic parameters of the State Bounce Back Plan. A Satisfaction Survey was recently completed in the Haven and Households. These are done through WCCEAL (WI Coalition for Collaborative Excellence in Assisted Living) who will provide us with comparison data with other assisted living facilities. After that data is received in the next month or so, it will be shared. There has been some restructuring in the Health Center and Haven to more closely match those areas to the other areas (Households and Apartments) of the facility. Jennifer McLaughlin has been promoted to CBRF Manager and will oversee the Health Center and the Haven. Kayla Olson has been promoted to Haven Coordinator and will continue to also coordinate the activities in that location. Christian Benzschawel will now work the AM shift instead of the PM shift as Nursing Supervisor. A new CFO has accepted the position and will start in early August. Attic Angel staff continue to work very hard with residents and families to keep them safe and to make their days happy and satisfying.
