• In 2010-2011, $227.2 billion in financial aid was distributed to undergrad and graduate students in the form of grants, Federal Work-Study, federal loans, and federal tax credits and deductions.

• In 2010-2011, students borrowed around $7.9 billion in loans from state and private sources.

• Includes course materials: books, supplies, and equipment needed for a course of study

• Up to $2,500 (40% of the credit is refundable, up to $1,000)
