“I’ve Got Rhythm”

“Keep the Sabbath day holy. Don’t pursue your own interests on

that day, but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight…”

-Exodus 58: 13a

When my wife and I were planning our wedding we

had to be extremely careful when considering songs for our

reception following the ceremony. You see, I was on staff at

a large church and we invited all of the Pastoral staff. It just

so happens that our denomination takes a strong stance

against social dancing. So, while I wanted everyone to have a

good time, we did not want to offend anyone. Also, I was

concerned about the dancing, because, I can’t dance well!

Dancing is all about rhythm. We need to know when to

move and when to pause in sync with a beat. Have you ever

watched someone dance who has no rhythm? It can be

painful and comical at the same time! Someone with no

rhythm trying to dance is just awkward.

Interestingly, God has designed the world and our

lives for a rhythm, of working hard and taking time to rest.

Did you know that God has given you 52 spiritual vacation

days? These days are known as the Sabbath, observed by

Christians on Sundays. Our designer God knows how we are

wired He knew from the beginning of time we would need

rest. Today, you are special enough in God’s eyes to take a

day off to refuel, refocus and be refreshed. Start your week

off right and God will show you how to care for the rest!
