DEAR FATHER

SACRED HEART PARISH

Q: Did Adam and Eve repent of their sin, and if so, were they forgiven?

A: Genesis 1—3 is written primarily to convey truths about God: God

is good, loving, and provident; humankind was ungrateful to God and introduced evil into the world. However, despite humanity’s sinfulness, there is still hope because of God’s goodness and mercy. The Garden of Eden story is focused more on the loss of original holiness and the consequences of original sin than on repentance. So while the Bible doesn’t state that Adam and Eve sought repentance, we can know with certainty that God offered them forgiveness, and we can imagine that they probably repented. God restores humanity after the Fall through Christ’s redemptive act and offers all of us forgiveness (see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, 410). Christians believe that “the world has been established and kept in being by the Creator’s love; has fallen into slavery to sin but has been set free by Christ, crucified and risen to break the power of the evil one” (CCC 421). Creation, therefore, already involves a re-creation in Christ, the eternal Word of the Father. Christ, the “New Adam,” who amends for the disobedience of Adam, becomes the point toward which creation’s history is directed. The Catechism of the Catholic Church asks: Why did God not prevent the first man from sinning? “St. Leo the Great responds, ‘Christ’s inexpressible grace gave us blessings better than those the demon’s envy had taken away.’…And the Exsultet sings, ‘O happy fault, …which gained for us so great a Redeemer!’”

Ministries for July: Jim Garland Extraordinary Minister (7/2): Les and Margaret Simms Lector (7/2): Dennis Diaz Offertory (6/18): Attendance (6/18):

“To be without "fear of God" is equivalent to putting ourselves in his place, to feeling we ourselves are lords of good and evil,

of life and death. Instead, those who fear God feel within them the safety that an infant in his

mother's arms feels (cf. Ps 130: 2). Those who fear God are tranquil even in the midst of storms for, as Jesus revealed to us,

God is a Father full of mercy and goodness. Those who love him are not afraid:

"There is no fear in love", the Apostle John wrote, "but perfect love casts out fear.”

has remained in Mexico. I decided to become a priest at the age of 18 after graduating from high school. I was a catechist in my parish and was invited to study at the world’s largest seminary in Guadalajara. I have had the opportunity to study in Rome for three years where I got a master degree in Philosophy. The Divine Providence has brought me here and I know he has special plans for everyone in our Catholic community. I was impressed by the words of Pope Francis who said, ‘Go out, head to the periphery.” That is why I have come. The kingdom of God is dynamic and expansive and it was important for me to leave my securities and comfort zone in Guadalajara to serve others with humility in the simplicity of faith. Perhaps some people may ask to themselves how will I align with the former pastor? More lenient or strict? What about past practices? My special exception? Everything remains as always. Step by step the Holy Spirit will tell us what to do. As our Parish is embarking in a new adventure a new path is opening and I am ready to travel letting myself be guided by God and with the total conviction that in this adventure I will never be alone, and now I am aware that my confidence is greater having your sincere friendship that is translated into prayer for this servant of yours. Every moment is a gift of God that comes with grace. My expectations are to learn from everyone and to find faith in brotherhood. I am at your service.

There are several ministries next weekend where additional ministers are needed. Please contact the Parish Office is you are able to help. Thank you!

Freedom Through Forgiveness

With over 15 years of experience, Ken Yasinski has quickly become one of Canada’s most sought after Catholic speakers. Through clever examples and insightful stories, Ken reveals how each of us can obtain freedom from the burden of our sins through the forgiveness that is readily available in the Sacrament of Confession.
