“Teach us, Good Lord, to serve You as You deserve; to give and not to count the cost; to fight and not to heed

the wounds; to labor and not to ask for any reward, save that of knowing that we do Your will through

Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen” St. Ignatius Loyola

Did you know, at Dunwoodie, there are fewer than 20 graduate students studying to be ordained priests to serve the People of God in the 285 parishes of the Archdiocese of New York?! Perhaps you have not done so before, but we ALL should pray [i.e., speak with, and listen] to God that He would “soften hearts,” so that many more intelligent, mature men might readily respond to His unique call to priestly leadership. Inquirers should contact the Archdiocesan Office at: www.NYPriest.com. WORK as if everything depends of us [It doesn’t] PRAY as if everything depends of God [It does]

Extend Your Christmas! For us Christians, the liturgical season of the Nativity, commemorating God’s “breaking into our history” in the flesh, extends from Christmas Day through the Solemnity of the Baptism of Jesus (January 13th). As our ancient worship experience e x t e n d s our happiness, “Do thou likewise” and e x t e n d your Christian love within your family, among your friends and in your Parish family!

His passing from this world to the next is truly the End of an Era!

Always in our prayers!

Reverend Monsignor Thomas P. Leonard February 18, 1928 – October 18, 2018

Beloved Pastor of Holy Trinity, 1990-2014

Happy Epiphany! The Epiphany marks the public revelation of Jesus, the Christ [in Hebrew, Messiah], Son of God and Savior of the World beyond ancient Judaism. In the Magi, representatives of the neighboring pagan religions, the Gospel sees the beginning of all the nations recognizing and welcoming the Good News of salvation through the appearance of God in human flesh. Every human being benefits from Jesus’ salvific act of unconditional love on the Cross! Now THAT’s a revelation [in Greek, epiphaneia]! * * * * * * * *

A New Year’s Reminder The New Year is a good time to remember our departed family and friends with the celebration of a Mass for them. Come to the Rectory and select a day and time – or the days and times for several Masses!

Sophia, ChurchMouse Reporting unseen works of faith, hope and charity to uplift you.

One of the reasons those “men from the East” [Matthew 1] were “wise” is that they knew they did not know everything! They were lifelong learners, seeking improvement and often finding surprises! They purposefully “followed the star” and found the true “Meaning of Life.” Borrowing Jesus’ words to the disciples, “Go and do likewise!” Continue digging deep and enriching your Faith. Live it generously in and through helping the needy and vulnerable, where God resides quietly.

There is only One Saint Luke! The LECTIONARY YEAR “C” features the Gospel According to Luke. It might be an uplifting experi-ence to commit to reading his Gospel over the coming weeks as a genuine spiritual exercise. “Encountering Jesus” through the intentional reading of Scripture [Lectio Divina] has been known to help people, you know … for 2,000 years! Just think! If we did not have Luke’s manuscript, we would be deprived of the following Gospel stories: The Good Samaritan, The Rich Man who built bigger barns, The Fig Tree, The Prodigal Son, The Crafty Steward, The Publican and the Sinner, the entire Infancy Narrative of Jesus through his Presentation in the Temple and his Encounter in temple with Teachers of the Law, The Raising of the Son of the Widow Nain, The Woman Washing Jesus’ feet with tears, The Sending of the seventy-two, Martha and Mary, The Healing of a Crippled Woman of the Sabbath, The Samaritan Leper, The Repentance of Zacchaeus, Jesus Weeping over Jerusalem, Jesus before Herod, The Meeting of Jesus with “the daughters of Jerusalem” on the Way to Calvary, The Good and Bad Thieves, and the Appearance on the Road to Emmaus. * * * * * * * *

THE EPIPHANY STAR “The Epiphany. Always a God whose ways are not our ways. Always, just when we think we’ve found a foothold, the order to flee to Egypt. ‘God is at home,’ observed 13th c. mystic Meister Eckhart. ‘We are in the far country.’” – Heather King, Magnificat
