A Family Perspective by Bud Ozar

After meeting Jesus, the Magi returned home by “another way.” What in your family needs to be done “another way?” Do you need “another way to resolve differences, to communicate or show affection? This is a new year, time to change what isn’t working. Take a tip from some wise men, there’s always “another way.”

    Reading II Titus 2:11-14; 3:4-7

    Gospel Luke 3:15-16, 21-22

If you know of someone that is home-bound please contact the parish office at (304) 743-3234 so we can send them the weekly bulletin and Fr. Paul can pay them a visit. Without your help people can fall through the cracks and Fr. Paul wants no one to be forgotten.

Please prayerfully consider donating to our local food pantry, E.C.C.H.O. In addition to canned food

items and toiletries they are in need of gloves, coats, and hats. Also, toys for children would be

    greatly appreciated.

Reflection on the Extra Jubilee of Mercy

Whenever people want to experience God’s mercy firsthand, they need to become involved with the humble, where the overturning of people’s lives brings the wonder

and joy of Mercy. -Misericordiae Vultus

    2016 Contribution Envelopes have arrived!

Please pick up your box of envelopes from the tables in the vestibule. If your envelope box is not there or if

you would like to receive envelopes for 2016, please contact the parish office.

THANK YOU: This bulletin is furnished to the Parish without charge. The advertisements that appear completely defray all publishing costs with which the church would otherwise be burdened. Please patronize these sponsors as a thank you for their kind generosity.

Special thanks to our parishioners for their generous donations of

food baskets and Angel gifts for our E.C.C.H.O. families and to Cheryl Warner for coordinating this wonderful

    activity.

  • YOUTH MINISTRY NIGHT

On January 26th. at the Marshall Campus Center in Huntington, WV from 7:00—8:30 p.m. the Diocesan Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry and the missionaries from the Bishop Hodges Pastoral Center will be offering a program entitled Pursuit. This evening is an inspiring, fun and faith filled night for families and will include praise and worship music, prayer and content based on the Year of Mercy. It will be a great opportunity for parents and teenagers (7th.-12th. grade) to have a fun and spiritually enriching evening together. These regional gatherings were designed to supplement youth ministry in parishes which already have active youth ministry and to serve as a

model for those who do not. The evening is FREE.

    Christmas Poinsettia Donations

In memory of Sarah Ingels by Jim & Marsha Ingels, Danny & Becky Ingels.

In loving honor of Jack & Cecilia Abney by Marieanne Cordle

In loving honor of Tom & Angelene Footo , Freda O’Brien

A reminder: We encourage that all parishioners use an envelope when making offerings if they wish to use the St. Stephen year end Offering Statement for tax return purposes. Please let the office staff know in a timely manner if you require a statement for 2015.

We kindly ask that you clearly print your name and amount on the outside of your envelope and/or include you box number if you are using spare envelopes from the vestibule. Not all handwriting is legible! Thank you for your generosity and attention to this request.

The Holy Family of Jesus Mary and Joseph Cycle C

In the first reading we hear that “Whoever honors his father atones for sins, and preserves himself from them.” And “kindness to a father will not be forgotten, firmly planted against the debt of your sins.” Did you realize that in addition to prayer, fasting and almsgiving that honoring your parents atones for sins as well? How do we honor our parents?

The second reading reminds us to put on “heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another.” Sometimes the hardest ones to deal with are members of our personal family and our Christian family. How do we respond to those around us most often?

The Gospel relates one of the more traumatic experiences a family can have, a missing child. How do we respond to those whose family are going through difficult periods?
