Dear Parents and Guardians,We are so excited that you and your student are joining the Ferris family. Ferris is a place
where your student can work toward achieving a degree in one of our over 190 majors, explore
thousands of opportunities to be engaged on campus and in the community, make lifelong
friends and interact with caring faculty and staff. Ferris is a place your son or daughter will soon
call home and be connected to for their lifetime. You have spent a lot of time with your student and helped prepare them for this day. This
preparation has provided them with many tools to be successful and achieve their educational
dreams. As they transition to college, don’t forget about your needs too; be sure to reach out
to your friends and family who have experienced a child going to college and ask them for
advice about how to handle this special time. In addition, know that we have many resources
on campus to assist. For example, students who live in the residence halls will have access to
staff who know a great deal about campus, they will also be assigned an advisor who will guide
their degree programs, they will interact with student organization peer members and advisors,
attend a number of events and programs, and meet a multitude of faculty and staff members
who will teach their classes and provide opportunities for learning inside and outside of the
classroom.
Although there are many, many resources available for assistance, the biggest challenge will
be getting your student to reach out and tell someone they need support. Please encourage
them to use the resources available to help ensure their success and if you are unsure of where
to send them, give us a call at 1-800-433-7747 and we can help you. Lastly, encourage your
student to take responsibility for themselves and their degree progress.Again, welcome to the Ferris family and we wish you and your students the best!Sincerely,
Jeanine Ward-RoofVice President for Student Affairs
