Residential Care Walton Hall Community Special School

Set in the beautiful grounds of Walton Hall School, the school and it’s residents enjoy a tranquil and safe environment where all can flourish.

‘Staying in residence was really a home from home experience but with friends.’‘- FORMER STUDENT

RESIDENTIAL AIMSTime spent in residence at Walton Hall School, is richly rewarding for all concerned.

Through a varied activity schedule, young people are offered numerous ways to develop their social skills, hobbies and interests.

I t a l s o p r o v i d e s i n v a l u a b l e opportunities for the young people to actively experience and develop their personal independent skills in caring for themselves. This is achieved through a structured and monitored set of activities aimed at life skills such as cooking, cleaning and caring for themselves.

We seek to give the parents of young people in our care, the peace of mind that our provision is professional, well managed and above all centered around the child’s needs.

With your help and support we are certain that your child will thrive in our care, whether staying until 8pm or overnight.

KEY CONTACTS

Each young person will be allocated a key worker who will act as their house parent during their time in residence. Before they start you will receive a visit from your key worker to discuss the placement in more detail and obtain written permission and information where required.

You will be free to contact your child’s key worker should you have any questions at all, and a weekly ‘Residential Home Diary’ will act as a regular communications link between you both.

Here are a few pieces of routine information that every parent asks.

MEDICATION

Should your child require any medication during their stay in residence then please ensure that it is handed in to staff directly, clearly labelled in the original packaging. Written permission is essential before we can administer any kind of medication to your child.

POCKET MONEY

We ask each young person to bring in £2 a week to be contributed towards any activities that are taking place. This subsidises trips out, as well as internal activities requiring additional resources such as cooking and art and craft. You may occasionally receive additional letters detailing other activities and trips that require additional funding, such as theatre visits, which we ask you to make if able.

CLOTHING

Clothing appropriate to the activities on offer should be brought in, clearly labelled. This can include sports wear and swim wear some weeks. A change of clothes for the morning is also required if staying overnight.

Clean bed linen and towels are provided by the hostels.

TOILETRIES

Encourage your child to bring in their own toiletries bag, with shampoo, body wash, deodorant and brush as well as toothbrush and toothpaste.

NB. Please no spray deodorants.

PERSONAL ITEMS

Your child will be expected to look after and be responsible for anything that they bring into residence. We therefore recommend that items of value be kept at home in case of loss or damage.

No cameras or mobile phones are allowed due to child safety regulations and the fact that most phones include an inbuilt camera.

OUR STAFF MAKE EVERY ATTEMPT TO ENSURE THAT THE TIME YOUR CHILD SPENDS IN RESIDENCE IS RICHLY REWARDING, AIDING THEIR SOCIAL, PERSONAL AND EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
