A History of Magic - Cunning Folk and Witches
On Monday 14th November twenty year 10 students were able to go to King’s Lynn Library as part of the
“A History of Magic” with Mrs Faulkner and listen to Dr Beth Southard from the UEA.
This was a touring display as part of the exhibition being held at the British Library. Students listened to a
talk on “Cunning Folk and Witches” and heard about popular ideas of magic and the real history of
Witches including how they were identified, charms, spells medicine and more.
The library staff were so impressed with our year 10 students that they’ve been invited back to the library
to use their facilities in the future! Well done to all involved.

The year 7 PRIDE awards were given as follows:-
WE THINK AND ACT POSITIVELY AKVILE JAKAITYTE
WE RESPECT ONE ANOTHER IN EVERYTHING WE DO JACK KNIGHTS
WE STIVE TO IMPROVE OLIVER SCOTT
WE ALL CREATE A GREAT PLACE TO LEARN GABIJA JANKAUSKAITE
WE WORK WELL TOGETHER ERIN MORPHUS
Well done to those 5 students who are now on their way to gaining all five PRIDE awards.
Congratulations to the Year 7 boy’s football team. They beat Neale Wade school, March 5-1. A resounding
win with goals from Paulius Falco, Max Bland, Oli Scott x 2 and Nojus Ivananauskas. The team have
reached the last 64 in the National Cup. This is amazing that given 10 weeks ago these boys did not even
know each other. Well done, you did your school and yourselves proud.
All forms were asked to think of idea of how they can raise money for Children in Need. All forms this
week have come up with some fabulous idea’s such as ‘How many gummy bears in the jar’, ‘Guess the
weight of the cake’ (kindly baked by Miss Bates) and ‘guess the bear’s name’. These took place today in
the main hall at break time and I am hoping that once the money is counted we will have raised a
considerably amount for this very worthy cause.
I wish you a very pleasant weekend.
Mrs B Wright Head of Year 7
Year 8 – Mrs Stonach
Our Year 8 attendance has slightly improved again this week, thanks to parents and pupils for coming in
despite the coughs and splutters. Many students are really keen to keep their attendance above 95% in
order to win awards. This week we will be starting a new initiative. Heads of Year and members of the
attendance team will be visiting all pupils with an attendance between 90-96%, each day that they are in
school they will receive a sticker, if they are in everyday for 4 weeks they will receive a treat. The students
that have been selected to do this are aware and have been given the information that they need.
Well done to tutor group 8A who had an attendance last week of 98.6%
A big well done to Christian Tansey who was recognised for his outstanding work in MFL, Pep Mintah-
Baah and Millie Milnes for their efforts in English and Alice Biran and Max Smith have been recognised for
their hard work in PE.
Well done to the students who were awarded the PRIDE awards this week, they were;
P – Kit Howlett
R – Janis Dukats
I – Madisyn Williamson
D – Bethany Dowe
E – Erin McDonald and Millie Laws
Just a reminder – trainers are not allowed to be worn in school (except of course for PE!), shoes must be
formal – please see the picture for an example. Also, trousers must not be skinny style, they must hang
not stick to the child’s leg like leggings.
On Tuesday we were lucky enough to be treated to an afternoon drama production which was delivered
by a theatre company Alter Ego. The drama production "County Lines" looked at tackling the subject of
drugs and the criminal world. It was very hard hitting and a big hit with the year 8 students. We also had a
question and answer session with them and were joined by the Assistant Chief Constable of Norfolk police
as well as various media representatives.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s tutor in the first instance, email
information for them can be found on the school website.

Year 10 – Mrs Cole
Due to staff illness there is no report from Year 10 this week, apologies.
Sixth Form News:
The 6th form students were a real credit to us last night as we hosted a very busy taste evening for
prospective students. As always our students, both year 12 and 13, were amazing ambassadors for the
school, giving up their free time to share their passion for KES 6th form. We thank them all very much.
Year 13 are busy completing mock exams. Can we remind you that normal lessons (and studies) are
taking place if students are not in exams. We will not authorise study leave or unexplained absence during
this time. If students are waiting for their results before submitting UCAS applications, they need to ensure
these are all ready to submit. Mock results day is 15th December.
Tuesday 21st is a diploma day. Year 12 students will be completing a variety of work shops to prepare
them for life after 6th form (including an online driving school) and need to be in school all day.
We have given year 13 this day off school to help with their revision.
Congratulations to Chloe Watson who has received invitation to interview from two universities to
study medicine
Mrs Mclean and the 6th form team.

LAST WEEK! THIS WEEK!
Please remember to bring a calculator to every lesson!
It is crucial that all students, in every year group, bring a calculator to every lesson.
Vast majority of scientific calculators are fine. It is incredibly important students know how to use their own calculator!
The easiest to understand, most accessible, and best value is the Casio fx-83GT PLUS.
Any questions, please ask
