Panther Families,

We are excited to announce our Spring Concert for the 2020 SY. This inspirational vocal and

instrumental recital will be held on April 2nd, 2020. Students in Pre-Kindergarten through 1st

grade will perform at 9:30am and students in 2nd through 5th grade will perform at 1:15pm. You

will have the opportunity to see your children express feelings of hope, peace, freedom, and

appreciation of the simple things of life through musical expression.

It is important for students to practice as much as possible in order to prepare for the concert.

The success of this vocal and piano ensemble truly depends on how many times students practice

at home the songs they will perform before the audience. After the Winter break, I will be

evaluating the students in order to determine which grade is ready to perform the songs in choir

and instrumental ensembles, and which grade needs more help. The more they practice on their

voices and instruments, the better chance they have at being able to perform alone or in a group!

You can support your child at home by practicing the following songs with your child. Please see

the attached documents which include the lyrics of the vocal recital song.

It is important that every student and parent make their best effort to attend this concert. Every

voice and single practice are important to make their concert a success! Please do not hesitate

to contact the homeroom teacher or contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns.

You may contact me at 202-553-8126, or by e-mail at [email protected].

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming concert!

Sincerely,

Ms. Sandra Granobles

Music Teacher

Familias Pantera,

Sinceramente,

La Sra. Sandra Granobles

PRE-K (EO& DL) De Colores / Many Colors “De Colores” came to the Americas from Central Spain in the sixteenth century and is now sung all over the Spanish-speaking world on special occasions and celebrations. It is also the anthem of the United Farmworkers of America, a union founded by Cesar Chavez, most of whose members are Spanish speaking. People hold hands and sway while singing this beautiful song.

Rojo, Naranja, Amarillo, Verde, Azul, Morado.

All the Colors, all the colors they brighten the hills and fields in the springtime

All the colors, all the colors we see on the birdies that fly from afar.

All the colors, all the colors we brighten the rainbow that lights up the sky.

It’s these colors that much like our love, fill our hearts and make everything oh so alive

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple.

Everyone Belongs Words and Music by Glyn Lehmann Verse We're all different you and me That's what we call diversity Every life is like a brand new song It starts out with a melody And like the branches of a tree Grows and grows throughout your whole life long Change will come for better or worse And so you add another verse Sing it loud and sing it strong Chorus x2 Everyone belongs Where they can sing their song And live in harmony With neighbours, friends and family Rap It's not just about the clothes we wear or how we look The colour of our skin, the kind of food we cook There’s more to you and me than just what meets the eye There’s all the different feelings that we have inside Everyone is different in so many ways Wouldn’t it be boring if we were all the same Celebrate your culture, your family history And when we’re all together celebrate diversity Chorus x2 Everyone belongs Where they can sing their song And live in harmony With neighbours, friends and family

Bridge Listen carefully Can you hear a voice Struggling to be heard? Give them a chance to be Heard above the noise That’s something everyone deserves Interlude repeat Verse Chorus x2 Rap Everyone is different in so many ways Wouldn’t it be boring if we were all the same Celebrate your culture, your family history And when we’re all together celebrate diversity © 2014 Glyn Lehmann. This Is Me "This Is Me" was written as an internal monologue for the bearded lady, after the scene where Barnum rejects Lettie Lutz and the rest of his troupe at the high society party. The song later transforms into a communal moment for all the "freaks", as they all sing together in an ensemble.

SOLOIST I am not a stranger to the dark Hide away, they say 'Cause we don't want your broken parts I've learned to be ashamed of all my scars Run away, they say No one'll love you as you are

But I won't let them break me down to dust I know that there's a place for us For we are glorious

CHORUS LINE BY THE SOLOISTS

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out.

I am brave, I am bruised I am who I'm meant to be, this is me

Look out 'cause here I come And I'm marching on to the beat I drum I'm not scared to be seen I make no apologies, this is me

CHORUS

Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh

2ND SOLIST

Another round of bullets hits my skin Well, fire away 'cause today, I won't let the shame sink in

1st SOLOIST

We are bursting through the barricades and Reaching for the sun

CHOIR

(we are warriors)

1st SOLOIST Yeah, that's what we've become

CHOIR

(yeah, that's what we've become)

CHOIR AND SOLIST

I won't let them break me down to dust I know that there's a place for us For we are glorious

CHORUS

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out. I am brave, I am bruised I am who I'm meant to be, this is me

Look out 'cause here I come And I'm marching on to the beat I drum I'm not scared to be seen I make no apologies, this is me

Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh This is me

SOLOIST

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down. I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out. This is brave, this is proof This is who I'm meant to be, this is me

CHOIR

Look out 'cause here I come (look out 'cause here I come)

And I'm marching on to the beat I drum

I'm not scared to be seen I make no apologies, this is me

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out. I'm gonna send a flood. Gonna drown them out Oh This is me

I Smile I dedicate this song to recession, Depression and unemployment This song's for yo

Today's a new day, but there is no sunshine Nothing but clouds, and it's dark in my heart And it feels like a cold night Today's a new day, where are my blue skies Where is the love and the joy that you promised me Tell me it's alright

I almost gave up, but a power that I can't explain Fell from heaven like a shower

I smile, even though I hurt see I smile I know God is working so I smile Even though I've been here for a while I smile, smile It's so hard to look up when you been down Sure would hate to see you give up now You look so much better when you smile, so smile

Today's a new day, but there is no sunshine Nothing but clouds and it's dark in my heart And it feels like a cold night Today's a new day, tell me where are my blue skies Where is the love and the joy that you promised me Tell me it's alright

I smile, even though I hurt see I smile I know God is working so I smile Even though I've been here for a while I smile, smile It's so hard to look up when you been down Sure would hate to see you give up now You look so much better when you smile

I almost gave up, but a power that I can't explain Fell from heaven like a shower now

I smile, even though I hurt see I smile I know God is working so I smile Even though I've been here for a while I smile, smile It's so hard to look up when you been down Sure would hate to see you give up now You look so much better when you smile, so smile

ONE MILLION DREAMS Singing by Pink. Written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul for The Greatest Showman soundtrack, "A Million Dreams" is sung by the young P. T. Barnum (Ziv Zaifman) to his future wife Charity Hallett (Michelle Williams). He tells her of his dreams for the future and explains his confidence that if they work hard for it, they will come true.

VERSE

I close my eyes and I can see The world that's waiting up for me That I call my own Through the dark, through the door Through where no one's been before But it feels like home

They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy They can say, they can say I've lost my mind I don't care, I don't care, so call me crazy We can live in a world that we design

CHOIR

'Cause every night I lie in bed The brightest colors fill my head A million dreams are keeping me awake I think of what the world could be A vision of the one I see A million dreams is all it's gonna take A million dreams for the world we're gonna make

VERSE

There's a house we can build Every room inside is filled With things from far away The special things I compile Each one there to make you smile On a rainy day

They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy They can say, they can say we've lost our minds I don't care, I don't care if they call us crazy Runaway to a world that we design

CHOIR

Every night I lie in bed The brightest colors fill my head A million dreams are keeping me awake I think of what the world could be A vision of the one I see A million dreams is all it's gonna take A million dreams for the world we're gonna make

BRIDGET

However big, however small Let me be part of it all Share your dreams with me You may be right, you may be wrong But say that you'll bring me along To the world you see To the world I close my eyes to see I close my eyes to see

CHOIR

Every night I lie in bed The brightest colors fill my head A million dreams are keeping me awake A million dreams, a million dreams I think of what the world could be A vision of the one I see A million dreams is all it's gonna take A million dreams for the world we're gonna make

For the world we're gonna make
