Supervision is not available for students before 8:15 a.m. Please do not drop your child off before 8:15, especially during inclement weather. We offer Before School Childcare beginning at 7:00 a.m. for families who need supervision before 8:15 a.m. Please contact Laura Dockery at [email protected]. If your child will be absent from school, you must call the school office. You can also notify the teacher, but we must hear from you in the front office. When you drop-off or pick-up your child using the front driveway, please stay off your cell phone and pull all the way forward before you stop your car. We have staff that guide and help you and your students load and unload safely. Please remain in your car so we can have you pull forward to help with our traffic flow. If you need to pick up your child early, you should park off-site or down by the south parking lot, as it can be hard to get through the front driveway. Students and parents that are walking should only cross at the crossing walk in the school drive and/or using the crosswalk at Hudson Avenue. We have crossing guards at both locations. We remind students often that they should not be crossing in the middle of the street or the parking lot. Our students know! If you need to change dismissal arrangements, please call the school office before 3:30 p.m. We send messages to all teachers at that time. A note from the principal... I'd like to welcome you all to the new school year. We are so happy that you are a part of our school community. We are quickly settling in to routines and procedures and thank everyone for your support in getting your students and our staff working together for a great year. We are enjoying hat day today, "Hats Off To a Successful Start!" I hope that you are able to attend our Parent Orientation meetings next week. Please see the times listed on the back. If you do not feel comfortable attending, your child's teacher will reach out to you to share all of the important information. If we could limit the orientation meeting to just one parent per student, this will help us keep our numbers down and we can spread out easier. Please make it work for your family! We ask that parents only be in the building during their assigned grade level time. At Parent Orientation, you will learn about the curriculum, special events and activities, hear from our PTO, meet other families, and be able to ask the teacher questions. Teachers will also share their Canvas pages with you and talk to you about setting up a Parent Communication App. You can sign up to be a part of PTO and/or Site Council while you are here or visit the PTO website. Our PTO will meet in the library on the first Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. and Site Council will follow at 6:30 p.m. The Site Council meets six times during the school year to discuss current district topics and help with school ideas and decisions. Because of Covid protocols, we are still limiting parents in and out of the school for volunteering. We hope that everyone remains healthy and we can soon have more parent involvement in various ways. Our school website has a copy of our Student/Parent Handbook. I encourage you to read through these policies and procedures. Go to www.usd383.org, Schools, Amanda Arnold, Resources, and Handbook. A few things are a bit different with Covid protocols, but I do want to call your attention to a few specific things: Again, we are so excited to begin a new school year. Our students are doing great learning and following new rules. We want to build positive relationships with all of our students and families, so please reach out if we can assist you in any way. We promise you a great experience at Amanda Arnold. Go Pandas! Sincerly, Mrs. Stitt 1435 Hudson Ave Manhattan, KS 66503 785-587-2020 Kathy Stitt, Principal
