P: I’m worried, where is he? He’s gone!! Let’s go and ask Mum.

M: Yes, he’s gone, he’s with Grandma in her bedroom! She has washed him, she

has fed him, she has taken him for a walk, she has brushed him, she has given

him some water and she has cleaned up his mess.

Pam: No, I don’t want to draw. I want to get a new video game! I want to go to the

toy shop!

Paul: We can’t go to the toy shop. Mum, Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa are busy.

We have to go another day.

Pam: Well… maybe we can go by ourselves.

Paul: But the toy shop is too far to walk.

Pam: I know, so let’s drive. Let’s take the car to the toy shop!

Paul: Drive? We don’t know how to drive the car!

Pam: I think it’s easy. Come on, I will do it!!

A few minutes later, Pam and Paul were in the car.

Pam: Ok, seatbelts on!

Paul: My seatbelt is on, ready!

Pam: Ok, turn the key…

Pam: Okay, let’s go!!

Pam drove the car down the street.

Pam: See Paul, I can drive the car, it’s easy!

Paul: Wow! You are a good driver Pam!

Pam: Now which way to the toy shop?

Paul: First go straight.

Pam: Ok, going straight!

Paul: Now do you see the petrol station? Turn right!

Pam: Turning right!

Paul: Now go straight. At the greengrocer’s turn left.

Pam: Ok, turning left!

Paul: Next, at the gym turn right…

Pam: Turning right… uh-oh! Uh-oh!

Paul: Oh no! It’s the police!

Pam: Oh no! I must stop the car!

Pam stops the car.

Police officer: Can I see your driver’s licence please?

Pam: Ummm… errr…here you go!


Police: This isn’t a driver’s license! This is a library card! Wait a minute, you

aren’t old enough to drive! You are only 8 years old!

Paul: We’re sorry! Please don’t take us to jail!

Pam: Yes, I am sorry! I only wanted to go to the toy shop! Please don’t take us to

jail!

Police: Well, I’m not going to take you to jail, but I am going to take you home. I

think your Mum and Dad are going to be very angry!

To the toy shop they want to drive the car

A little while later Dad arrived…

P&P: Dad! Dad! A thief stole Mum’s purse!

D: Is that true Mum? Did a thief steal your purse?

M: I think so; I left my purse on the picnic blanket while I played Frisbee. When I

came back it was gone!

D: Did anybody see anything?

Pam: No, I didn’t see anything.

Paul: No, I didn’t see anything either.

Grandma: No, sorry I was playing Frisbee. I didn’t see anything.


D: What about you Grandpa? Did you see anything?

Grandpa: Hmmm, let me think… yes! I saw the thief!

Everybody: You did?

Grandpa: Yes, but I forgot that I saw him!

D: Him? Him? So the thief was a man…Tell me more. Was he tall or short?

Grandpa: He was short.

D: Was he fat or skinny?

G: He was skinny!

D: Was he light skinned or dark skinned?

G: Hmmm… I think he had light skin.

D: What colour were his eyes? Were they big or small?

G: He had brown eyes. His eyes were big.

G: He had blond hair.

Paul saw a big brown suitcase with lots of stickers on it.

places I visited.

Pam: Wow, you went to New York City?

Grandma: Yes, I travelled to America and saw the Statue of Liberty.

Paul: And did you go to Australia too?

Grandma: Yes, I travelled to Australia and saw kangaroos.

Pam: You have lots, and lots of stickers from India!

Grandma: Well, I come from India so I went to visit my family.


Paul: Wow! You’ve even been to Africa!

Grandma: Yes, I travelled to South Africa and saw elephants!

Pam: You are so lucky Grandma! I wish we could travel the world!

Grandma: Well, I am sure you will travel when you are bigger! Come on, we have

to get back to work! We have to clean the attic!

While Grandma and Pam were cleaning the attic Paul decided to open the

suitcase.

Paul: Cool! Hey Grandma! What’s this?

Paul held up a very old looking glass bottle.

Pam: Wow! What is it Grandma?

Paul: I’m going to open it and see what’s inside!

Grandma: NOOOOOOO!!! STOP! DON’T OPEN THAT BOTTLE!!!

Pam & Paul: Why Grandma? Why?

Grandma: Errr ummmm….it is very old….ummm….it is not for kids to play with!

Grandma took the bottle and stuck it back in the suitcase.

Grandma: Pam, Paul, why don’t you go help Mum in the kitchen? I can finish

cleaning the attic by myself.

Pam & Paul: Okay…

Later that night, Pam and Paul were talking in their bedroom…

Paul: Pssst! Pam! Pam!

Pam: What is it Paul?

Paul: Do you want to go to the attic?

Pam: Why?


Paul: To see the bottle in Grandma’s suitcase.

Pam: Hmmm… ok. There is something strange about that bottle! I wonder why

she didn’t want us to open it?

Paul: Let’s go and find out!

Pam and Paul tiptoed out of their bedroom…

Down the hall…

And up the stairs to the attic…

Paul: Here it is!

Pam: Ok! Let’s open it!

Paul: Ready! 1, 2, 3!

Paul opened the bottle.

Out of the bottle came a very bright light.

Genie: Hello! Who are you?

Pam: I’m…I’m Pam.

Paul: I’m Paul. Who are YOU?

Genie: I’m the magic genie that lives in the bottle!

P&P: You’re a genie? Cool! Like in the movies!

Genie: Yes, I am a genie. I will grant you 3 wishes!

P&P: Wow! Three wishes really?

Genie: Yes! Anything you want!

Paul: Hmmm… ok. Let us think…


Genie: What do you want for your first wish?

Pam: We want to travel!

Paul: For our first wish we want to travel to Australia and see a kangaroo!

Genie: Ok! Here we go!

The genie took Pam and Paul flying through the air to Australia!

P&P: Wow! We’re in Australia! Look kangaroos!

Genie: Now time for your second wish!

Pam: For our second wish we want to travel to Egypt and see the pyramids!


The genie took Pam and Paul through the air to Egypt.

Pam: Wow pyramids!

Paul: And so much sand!

Genie: Ok. Now it’s time for your third wish. This is your last wish.

Pam and Paul whisper to one another.

P&P: We want to travel to China and see the Great Wall!


The genie took Pam and Paul through the air to China.

Paul: Cool! We’re in China!

Pam: Look at the Great Wall! It is amazing!

Genie: Now it’s time to go home.


Pam and Paul were back in their attic.

Paul: Back home, safe and sound. Travelling really was a lot of fun!
