Congress Centre and Services

Sin dalla sua inaugurazione avvenuta nel 1932 Palazzo

Mezzanotte, che prende il nome dall’architetto Paolo

Mezzanotte che ne curò la progettazione e la successiva

realizzazione, è la sede della Borsa Italiana.

Ha ospitato nel suo Parterre, fino alla fine degli anni

Ottanta, gli agenti di cambio e le contrattazioni azionarie

con le aste a chiamata (cosiddette “alle grida”). A partire

dall’inizio degli anni Novanta il mercato borsistico italiano

cambia fisionomia, dando l’avvio all’informatizzazione

degli scambi – con i primi 5 titoli negoziati sul sistema

telematico – e iniziando la trasformazione che avrebbe

determinato l’abbandono della Borsa “gridata”.

Nello stesso periodo Palazzo Mezzanotte viene sottoposto

a un primo restauro; dal febbraio 1993 ospita la sede

del Consiglio di Borsa e successivamente la sede di Borsa

Italiana Spa, la società privata che gestisce i mercati

mobiliari italiani. Oggi, dove si svolgevano le contrattazioni,

il Congress Centre and Services può accogliere oltre

600 persone tra lo storico Parterre, le Sale Convegni

nell’Underground, l’Aula Training e i suggestivi spazi

dell’Area Scavi Romani e della Balconata.

Services, società del London Stock Exchange Group.

Palazzo Mezzanotte has been the headquarters of Borsa

Italiana (the Italian Exchange) since its inauguration

in 1932. It is named after Paolo Mezzanotte, the architect

who designed it and supervised its construction.

Until the end of the 1980s the building’s ground level

housed the trading floor, with pits where the brokers used

to trade stocks by open outcry. In the 1990s, however,

the Italian Exchange market began to undergo radical

change as the whole trading process became electronic.

The trading of the first five stocks on the new screen-based

system was the start of a transformation that soon led to

the end of the traditional open outcry method of trading.

At the end of the same decade the Palazzo Mezzanotte

building itself underwent renovation. From February 1993

it was the headquarters of the Consiglio di Borsa (Exchange

Council) and subsequently, from December 1997, it became

the headquarters of Borsa Italiana Spa, the private company

that today manages the Italian stock market. Where open

outcry trading once took place, the new Congress Centre

and Services can today accommodate over 600 people

across its historic Parterre, basement Conference Rooms,

Training Room and various meeting areas.

The Congress Centre and Services is managed by BIt

Market Services, part of the Borsa Italiana Group.

fashion shows. Great attention has been paid to detail –

for example in the preservation and enhancement of

Grida” di Palazzo Mezzanotte e offre 440 posti a platea

Parterre hall

The Parterre hall is located in Palazzo Mezzanotte’s trading

floor area where open outcry equity trading previously took

place. The main floor of the hall has theatre-style seating

for 440 which can be arranged as desired over an area

of 1500 square metres, leaving ample surrounding space

for setting up exhibitions and meeting places.

La Sala Convegni si trova nell’Underground di Palazzo

Mezzanotte, l’ampio spazio sottostante la Sala delle Grida

dove è possibile ancora oggi ammirare alle pareti ceramiche

originali disegnate nel 1931 da Giò Ponti, il noto architetto

e designer milanese che negli anni Venti e Trenta era

direttore artistico della Richard Ginori.

La Sala offre 130 posti a platea ed è divisibile nelle due

sale, “Sale Blu”, da 70 e 60 posti.

The Sala Convegni Conference Hall is located in the

basement of Palazzo Mezzanotte (Underground), the

spacious area underneath the open outcry trading floor.

On the walls, the original ceramic works of art designed by

Architect Giò Ponti in 1931 can still be admired. Giò Ponti

was a very well known Milan architect and designer who

in the 1920s and 1930s worked as Artistic Director for

Richard Ginori.

The meeting room seats 130 and can be divided into two

separate rooms, the “Blue Rooms”, seating 70 and 60

people respectively.

Nell’Underground di Palazzo Mezzanotte si

trova l’Area Scavi Romani, dove una scenografica

pavimentazione in vetro mette in risalto le

fondamenta di un edificio dell’epoca romana

risalente al II secolo d.C. e le vestigia di un

teatro dell’età imperiale. Questo sito viene

esplicitamente citato da Ausonio nel IV secolo

d.C. e fu utilizzato come luogo di riunione fin

dal XII secolo in epoca medioevale. Ancora oggi

l’area si presta particolarmente ad accogliere

esposizioni e ad ospitare cocktail e rinfreschi.

The basement of Palazzo Mezzanotte hosts

ancient Roman ruins. A spectacular glass floor

allows the visitor to see the foundations of a

Roman building dating back to the 2nd century

AD and the remains of a theatre from Imperial

times. Mention of this site can be found in

Ausonio’s works in the 4th century AD. At the

end of the 12th century, this area was used as

a meeting venue. Today it is the ideal place for

exhibitions, cocktail parties and banquets.
