Last week of term! A very big thank you to David Jackson for leading the school over the past 9 weeks. He has done an outstanding job. He has been well supported by the great team of teachers, support staff and Board members. To be successful in any school everyone needs to be prepared to work as a team and that has been the case. I am very proud of the way David led the team and the way others stepped up to support him. This week I will be in and so will David from time to time as we ensure coverage for Karlene whose leg is now in a cast and we are not sure when she will be back! For this reason, we have postponed the Year 7 and 8 Formal Dance until later in Term 4. (We need Karlene to lead the dancing – no good looking at me for that one!). We will see how the next 3 weeks goes for her and work out cover. We will continue with Dance Demo Day on Friday providing the weather is reasonable. We will walk the whole school down to the Stadium just after 9:00am (NO ORDERED LUNCHES PLEASE) and get underway at 9.45am - SEE ATTACHED PROGRAMME. You are welcome to join us at any point and if it suits, you can take your child/ren home once they have finished dancing at 1:30pm. However, unless parents are at the Stadium to pick up children they will go back to school with the teachers and be dismissed from there at 2:55pm. This Wednesday is going to be a special day. As part of our Red Nose day supporting ‘Cure Kids New Zealand’ Levi Sherwood (New Zealander and international freestyle motocross superstar!) will be coming to Pahiatua School on Wednesday, 25th of September from 1.30pm onwards. All Pahiatua School community members are invited to a shared lunch, assembly and perhaps a quick demo on his motorbike. To show our support and raise money for Cure Kids, we ask that students dress up in REDiculous clothing and bring a gold coin to receive a Red Nose. We will also have sausages and cupcakes for sale (order form attached & distributed to all our children). Prizes to be given for best dressed and best hair style! We would like to thank NZ Farming for the donation of the sausages. Very much appreciated. A reminder once more about the Measles – they are deadly and they are spreading fast! Make sure you and your child are fully immunised. Take special care if travelling to other parts of New Zealand (particularly Auckland and Christchurch). Ensure visitors are immunised and have not been in contact with anyone with measles. On a brighter note – last Friday the Minister of Education announced that they have budgeted for 2 new classrooms for our school. This is great news and has been about 5 years coming. We will work with the Ministry regarding placement and design and let you know when we get more detail. Have a happy and safe break. Lynne Huddleston Principal
