BUSH TENNIS RESULTS Congratulations to all our representatives – the results are as follows: Year 6 Open Champion – Brodie Bennett Year 6 Open Runner-Up – Eric Miller = 3 rd = Sheldon Brown & Abby Jacob Year 7/8 Girls Champion – Anna Oswald Year 7/8 Girls Runner-Up – Olivia Matson 3 rd = Jazmin Dean & Addison Treder (St Anthony’s) Year 7/8 Boys Champion – Austyn Beales Year 7/8 Boys Runner-Up – Taylor Hall (St Anthony’s School) 3 rd = Connor Beales & Oscar Jacob It goes without saying that the events on Friday in Christchurch have changed New Zealand for ever. Our thoughts are with those affected and reminds us all how we need to install a sense of understanding, tolerance and acceptance of every person in our children. Hate has no place in our school, community and nation. We also need to be sure everyone stays safe and is aware that we need to be prepared for unexpected actions of bitter and twisted people. As a school we will not be dwelling on the details of Friday, if appropriate, that is the job of parents. The recommendation is to reassure your children that we can move forward with the support of each other. At school we will continue to practice emergency evacuations and the procedures for lockdown on a regular basis. Be assured that should the worst happen we will take care of the children and know that the school is a high priority for our local police. I would like to thank them, on your behalf, for coming to school within 15 minutes of the events in Christchurch to check we were safe and not a likely target. As we move forward we know that some things are not a priority. The NZEI (Teachers Union) has called off the Paid Union Meetings that were due to be held this week so there will be no disruption for teachers and pupils. This will allow us to keep a regular programme and a settled week for everyone to process and move on. Our swimming team were outstanding at the Bush Sports. They swam very well and behaved better. A big thank you to the team of helpers including Michael and Carol Pound and Veronica Kururangi. We will publish the results in an attachment. A number of families have indicated they intend taking their children to Palmerston North to take part in the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon. We are not entered as a school but will have the school gazebo there as a meeting place and protection from the weather. Tally Jackson will coordinate the packing up at the end of the day. Enjoy the company of each other, celebrate good effort and thank you to those who have supported the students able to participate. Please remember to let the school know that your children will be absent for the day. Unfortunately, Headlice have made a return and we will need to work hard to ensure we get rid of them again. I know how frustrating these can be and the only solution is if we work together. We have a great team of Teacher Aides who keep a close eye out for these critters and we will check hair, if necessary. If we do find any we will let you know and also provide product from KidzCan. Please be assured that checking is done discretely and with dignity and we can see that parents are working hard to treat children. Unfortunately, some children are very attractive to Headlice and will keep getting them while others never get them. If you have an issue with us checking your child, please contact the office. The only way we can get them under control is to keep checking and ensuring there are none around to spread. A reminder that the Board of Trustees Elections are coming up and we encourage anyone thinking about standing to contact a current board member and to come along to a board meeting to get a sense of what is involved. Our next meeting is tomorrow night in the staffroom – starting at 5:30pm. Finally, forward notice that our Production is going to be held at Tararua College on the last Wednesday and Thursday evenings of term. We would really love to have every student there both evenings so please work towards this. Last year it worked very well and I know students do enjoy their moment in the spotlight!
